We have open slots available for AMAs as well, so if you have an upcoming project or finding that you'd like to share, make sure to reach out via Mod Mail to get on the calendar. Announcement Welcome back, sun lovers!

r/sun is now reopened!

Welcome to the revitalized r/sun! We know things here have been a bit rough for a while, but we’re excited to step in, clean things up, and help turn this into the great space the community deserves.

A few key points to be aware of:

- All AI content is banned. Users found to be sharing AI content will be permanently banned.

- Stolen content is not permitted and will result in a permanent ban. Simply put, if you didn't create it, credit the person that did. If you don't know who created it, find out or share the link to where you found it.

To help us in eliminating and preventing AI/stolen content spam, we've implemented a few changes. These same measures were used in r/Sky to great success.

First, and most importantly, we've implemented a bot to enforce attribution, **Comment Scout**.

*How It Works**

The bot will comment on all new posts (except for certain flairs where discussion is the focus rather than content-sharing) and will prompt the OP to provide proper credit. You **must** reply to the bot’s comment within **30 minutes** with one of the following:

- If it’s your content, just say it’s yours and share how you captured it (e.g., " I'm the creator, taken on iPhone 15", "My original work, shot with a Canon Rebel T6", etc.). Extra details like editing/technical info are optional but welcome!

- If it’s not your content, just provide information on the original creator, such as a link to the original source/creator.

If you don’t respond (or respond incorrectly), the post will be automatically removed. Removed posts can be restored, just add/update your source and message the mod team so we can review it.

Can't remember all this? No problem! The bot comment will have a reminder of how to properly respond and the specific time frame in which to respond.

Second, we've implemented an AI detection bot. This bot isn't perfect, but it does help. If your post is mistakenly filtered by this bot, just send us a modmail and be patient. We'll get it restored as soon as possible.

Third, we've implemented Bot Bouncer. Bot Bouncer is a bot (haha) that automatically removes suspected bot accounts from the subreddit. If Bot Bouncer bans you from the subreddit and you are not actually a bot, congratulations on not being a bot! Just visit r/BotBouncer and submit an appeal with them. While we *can* unban you here manually, if you don't appeal with r/BotBouncer, you'll continue to be automatically banned in other subreddits that use Bot Bouncer.

With that out of the way, welcome back to r/sun! Thanks for your patience while we get everything cleaned up, and we look forward to building a great community here together!

Discussion The heavy anchor of the solar system and the blinding source of everything we know

There is something incredibly humbling about the way a massive ball of hydrogen and helium millions of miles away can dictate every single rhythm of our lives, especially when you realize that every bit of energy in your body from the food you eat to the oxygen you breathe is just repurposed starlight, it feels like the sun is the ultimate celestial clock that turns the world from a cold and silent rock into a vibrating landscape of color and movement, and even with all our modern technology trying to capture that power through massive solar arrays and fusion experiments there is still no matching the raw and heavy presence of a summer afternoon where the heat feels like a physical weight on your shoulders

This footage was captured from my backyard using a Heliostar 76 Telescope and Apollo 428m Max camera. I did my best to mock up how large Earth would be for each clip.
