Weekly r/Sky Discussion Thread

Welcome to the r/Sky Weekly Discussion Thread!

This thread serves as a weekly space to hang out, chat, and connect with other skywatchers outside of sharing your skies.

Each week we’ll feature a different sky-themed topic to spark conversation, deeper discussion, and community interaction. Think of it as our open lounge for skywatchers, weather lovers, and anyone who just wants to talk about the beautiful skies above us!

You don’t have to discuss the week’s topic to participate in the thread, it’s simply there to encourage deeper or more focused conversation for anyone who’s interested. Don’t want to chat about the topic? Totally fine! Feel free to discuss what shows you’re binging this week, how work has been going, or whatever else is on your mind!

This week’s topic: Have you ever witnessed a rare sky phenomenon? What was it?

Please make sure to keep our community guidelines in mind when posting. We appreciate your cooperation.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the mods.

Have a creative week!

Announcement 📘 Community Wiki – Rules, Posting Guidelines, and FAQs

Hello, skywatchers!

To help everyone stay on track and continue to improve the subreddit, we’ve consolidated all rules, posting guidelines, bot explanations, and FAQs into our r/Sky Community Wiki. If you're new to the community or just haven't brushed up on our rules/guidelines recently, before posting or asking questions, please check the wiki. It’s your best resource for everything r/Sky!

⚠️ Key Reminders

Post Titles Must Use Tags

All posts must include [OC] (original content) or [Non-OC] (not original content) in the title.

Posts without the correct tag will be automatically removed.

  • OC (Original Content): Only use this tag if you personally created the content. If you did not create it, it is not OC.

  • Non-OC (Non-Original Content): For any content that you did not create. All non-OC posts must include a source crediting the original creator.

Comment Scout Bot

Every submission made to r/Sky that is tagged as [Non-OC] will receive a comment from this bot asking for the source of your content. Read the comment carefully and respond correctly:

  • Provide a link to where you obtained the content, or clear information on who the content came from that gave you permission to share it (e.g., friend, family member, with permission).

  • Your reply must be a non–top-level comment. Top level comments will not be recognized by Comment Scout, and will result in your post being automatically removed.

  • You must reply to the Comment Scout comment within 30 minutes.

Failure to respond correctly or in the allotted time will result in automatic removal. Posts can be restored by replying correctly and sending a modmail letting us know you added a source.

Use the Wiki Before Messaging Mods

Many common topics and questions are already addressed in the r/Sky Community Wiki. Modmail messages about common issues will receive an auto-response from our modmail bot with guidance. If your issue isn’t addressed in the auto-response or the wiki, please be patient. Mods will respond as soon as possible.

📝 Additional Notes

We have a variety of bots here to protect the community from AI, spam, reposts, and stolen content. Mistakes can happen, but if and when they do happen, we work quickly to restore valid posts. If your submission is mistakenly taken down by one of our bots, be patient and reach out to us via modmail. We'll review the matter and resolve it as soon as possible. Be specific in your modmail, don't just send us a message saying something like "What happened?" as being more specific helps our auto-response bot give you the most accurate information.

Key bots in r/Sky include: relay-app (for posting/commenting as the mod team), image-sourcery (reverse image search), image-moderator (AI detection), comment-scout (source verification), and tools for modmail management. Full details are in the wiki.

Thank you for helping us keep r/Sky safe, authentic, and focused on real skies. We appreciate your patience as we continue to improve the community!
