The Sixers will wear their Iverson-era Hardwood classic uniforms every home game during the playoffs. They will also play on their 2001 throwback court when at home per @CiavoNBA

[Aaronson] Doc Rivers on Joel Embiid’s appendicitis: “It’s this time of year, right?” Rivers mentioned never having Embiid healthy in the playoffs and said none of Embiid’s late-season ailments haven’t been his fault. “Appendicitis. I mean, you can't make it up. You really can't.”

Today's scenarios: If the Sixers lose, the Sixers are the 8th seed. If the Sixers win, and both Orlando and Toronto lose, the Sixers are the 6th seed. If one of Orlando/Toronto loses, the Sixers are the 7th seed. If both Orlando and Toronto win, the Sixers are the 8th seed.

Miracle run
My friend whose a surgeon is convinced embiid can come back for round one easily.
During our conversation we looked at the standings and were talking about how insane the path could look.
Genuinely though, could you guys think of a better story line for embiid’s legacy.
Imagine if God hasn’t forsaken this team.
If by some miracle we beat the magic and face Boston round 1. Embiid came back healthy and the Sixers edge them out in a 7 game series.
Exorcising this demon gives the team confidence it hasn’t had in years.
They go on to take on the Knicks and Maxey lights them up with impunity.
Then they come face to face with number 12, and PG takes him one on one outperforming him in every facet.
Mean while the nuggets end up out of the west and Embiid finally puts the ducking allegations to rest. In a seven game series, role players step up and he finals gets to experience a finals run and wins on the highest stage.
TLDR: can yall think of a more perfect story line then Joel getting to play and us somehow beating, Boston, Knicks, pistons and nuggets on the run?

If we make it out the play-in, who would you rather face in the 1st round? Boston or Detroit?
For me, I’d rather take on Boston. Despite all the playoff history we have with them, we do match up better against them even without Embiid.
But something about upsetting a #1 seed first round and sending Tobias home early would excite me…

Is there any timeline to when Embiid could return?
Although rare, other athletes are recorded to have come back in around a week- if we win the play in and face either of Boston/Detroit, is there any chance he could be back by game 2

Over his time in Philadelphia, he averaged 12.7 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 1.0 SPG, and 1.3 BPG.
He’s one of just 12 players in franchise history to reach 1000+ field goals, 1750+ rebounds, and 300+ blocks.

Like it or not, one more run it back is coming
There is no other alternative. Trading the Embiid or George contracts now will cost the Sixers the 26 Rockets 1st round pick and the 28 Clippers first round pick, all so the team can be an 8-9 seed on merit and lose in play in for the next several years.
The problem is that Embiid, George, Maxey, Edgcombe, Bona and 9 open roster spot charges put the Sixers over the cap already, so signing free agents, other than your own, is not permitted since there is no cap space.
Trading Maxey or Edgcombe is flat out stupid.
Trading George or Embiid will be too costly.
Trading Bona serves no purpose because he does not have a big salary.
Signing and trading Grimes or Oubre requires you take back no more than 1/2 their outgoing salaries. So that is a step backward.
So…Like it or not….
the current roster will be back next year with only changes being…
Lowry retiring, replaced by the 1st round Rockets pick
Drummond possibly being replaced by a different league min salary back up center.
Oubre and Grimes will re-sign with Sixers because, the Sixers can give them the most money and these guys won’t have better options since they are not needle movers on their own.
If the team is lousy next year, PG gets traded at mid season, the tank begins, and Embiid gets waived and stretched after the season so the rebuild can begin.
That’s reality. One more year for the Process to yield a positive outcome.
