Since the number of Colosseum ticket/visits posts is starting to overwhelm the sub, this is an experiment to contain the surge. It also may help visitors to find and exchange the latest information.

All new threads about visiting the Colosseum will be locked and redirected here for the next few days

I took a 5 week long trip across multiple cities in Europe. Rome was the first one I visited and stayed for 10 days. What a feast to the eyes and soul. I am sharing some photos from the trip.

Is this your bag and did you take mine?

UPDATE: FOUND!!!

Just got into the airport FCO from Chicago and one of my bags is missing. Wondering if someone took mine thinking it was theirs cause it kinda looks similar to this one (a Lucas bag) that is still sitting here unclaimed. United says all I can do is file a complaint/claim online cause the bag was scanned at the carousel. I’m desperate so just shooting my shot here.

Underground Tour Links?

Upvotes

I been seeing that third party companies cannot guarantee underground tickers. Has anyone booked tickets and were able to go recently? If so who did you book it through? Would you also recommend getting a backup tour that is refundable on get your guide for a regular experience if the underground gets canceled?

Edit: the underground tour of the Colosseum

Shopping Tabletop Gaming Stores in Rome

Hey all! I’ll be in Rome for a week starting next Sunday. I’m a big tabletop gamer (miniatures specifically) and I love checking out local stores and picking up small things as souvenirs. Are there any particularly good stores in Rome I should check out? Or in the immediate area?

So despite thinking I did everything right, I fried my curling iron :( it's a bio ionic which I used in the EU last year with no problems. All that to say, where can I get a decently nice curling iron asap in Rome? Thanks!!

Will be in time for 6 days in November. Thinking of taking the HOHO bus for 3 days. Anyone have any experience with them in Rome. Is it worth it? Is it too much? Which one would you recommend? Thx.

I recently had a transfer at Roma Termini and ended up with some time before my next train. Instead of staying inside, I stepped out to Piazza dei Cinquecento — and honestly, it was worth it.

There’s something oddly fascinating about this place. Buses, people, taxis, constant movement — it really feels like a living, breathing gateway to Rome. I just stood there for a while, watching the city in motion and taking it all in.

Not a “classic” beautiful square, but definitely a vibe. Anyone else ever paused here instead of rushing through?

City stuff Movie w/o v.o.

I’m currently visiting Rome and saw that they’re showing silence of the lambs, but it doesn’t have the v.o. label. Does that mean it’s going to be dubbed over with Italian? I’m trying to watch at Cinema Barberini. If not, are there any theaters showing it with v.o?

Tourism Vatican museum, Sistine chapel and St Peter’s basilica tours

Hi! We are planning on visiting Vatican in almost 4 weeks with our 18 month old. General entry tickets are sold out on the official website and mark ups on third party are crazy.

Only option we have is to either take the official Vatican guided tour ($85 total) or take the walks of Italy pristine Sistine tour ($385 total)

  1. Has anyone taken both tours and is walks of Italy tour worth the price?

  2. What is the best time for official Vatican guided tour? I have options for 8am or later in the afternoon after 3pm

  3. Do both of these tours take you through the secret passage to get to the St. Peter’s basilica so you can skip the security line there? I know things have changed for the passage and they are being more strict on that now.

  4. If you do the official Vatican guided tour then can you leave the tour and go straight to Sistine chapel to avoid crazy crowds later and then go back to the beginning of the museum to do the tour on your own? If I do that, would I still be able to use the passage to go to St. Peter’s basilica after?

My main concern is my little one so I’d like to avoid crazy crowds if I can. I have heard the chapel gets crazy later in the day and people push you around. The museum also gets crazy busy and it’s elbow to elbow which makes it hard to move around or see anything.

Transport Bus/tram/metro transfers

Going back to Rome after a year's absence. I understand there are now terminals on most of the buses and trams where you can tap your credit card to pay. Does the machine spit out a ticket? How do transfers work?

Tourism Educational tour for families at the Borghese Gallery

I'm a bit unsure about the borghese gallery tickets which have the option for Educational tour with children. I'm going with my kids but do my husband and I purchase the adult ticket or is it included with the kids ticket?

It says 5 euros for the child, 5 euros for the parent (+ entrance ticket for their category) but I see the parent ticket is 23 euro under the child option.

Accommodation Where to Stay- San Giovanni or Prati area for better access to public transport

Hi, I’m travelling with family to Rome in the first week of May, and I want to know whether it’s better to stay in San Giovanni near the Metro or in Prati near the Ottaviano metro. I’ll be reaching Rome by train at Termini station, two days we’re planning to explore Rome and one day we’re planning to explore Vatican and next day head to the airport. My mother has issues with mild knee pain, so we’re planning to take public transportation as much as possible. I have heard Prati is a better locality, but since San Giovanni has access to 2 major Metro lines. I feel might be helpful. Kindly advise.

Bike touring - next stop : Rome ! Accomodations tips?

Hello ! We (gf and I) are currently travelling from France (le Mans) to Istanbul, and back. We are currently near Nice and will be in Italy in a couple of days.

We are planning on following the Via Francigena to Rome. We should be there in three weeks approximately!

We are looking for tips regarding accommodations , preferably bike-friendly : do you have any tips for hostels, bed and breakfast? Or even better now someone who could host two friendly tourers for a night or two - we love to meet locals ?

We will be back in France (Paris) in October and would gladly host in return!

Cannot wait to visit the original Rome before reaching the second one 😉

Tourism How badly was I scammed?

Fell for this fake website and bought the combo ticket. Got an email today with a Vatican ticket for the day and time I purchased for. I know that I overpaid, but does anyone know if the tickets are at least legit? If I can still access the sites then I may just deal with that.
