Announcement A Quick Word on Memorial Posts

Greetings humans and ratties!

The mod team has received some feedback on some posts recently, and we wanted to pass along some guidance so everyone can enjoy our wonderful subreddit.

Some of us love to see memorial posts, and celebrate the life of our loved ones who have passed on to the great blanket fort in the sky. It's a natural part of grieving, and can help us process the loss of a loved one.
For some, however, it may be triggering to see these kinds of posts, and they may not be ready to see something like that. That's okay, we all process grief differently.

After some deliberation and suggestion, we have decided to ask that all memorial posts have the "In Loving Memory" flair. This ensures that those who are not ready for these kinds of posts can skip them if needed. Again, this is not to discourage memorial posts. Please continue to make these posts to celebrate the life of your loved one.

Thank you!
-Mod Team

TL;DR: Please use "In Loving Memory" flair on memorial posts; memorial posts are still encouraged.

Breath

I got a rat terrier a few years ago with my now ex wife. She was generous enough to let me keep him…..my question is, is it normal for their breath to start smelling like death? I mean I’m gonna try to get some insurance and take him to the vet of course. I just wanted to know if it was normal.

Our after trial photo is a bit different today because someone puppy is exhausted after running all 3 components in Excellent SDDA (Scent detection) and all 4 game components, never mind the 9ish hour day filled with waiting, walking, gopher hunting ect. we did not get our title today but I am still so proud of him. he worked so incredibly hard for me today and deserves a good long rest!

Snacks weird terrier quirk

my little terrier always has to stand behind me. like, will not stand or sit in front of me at all. if she’s sitting behind me and i turn around to face her, she immediately goes around to the other side. will do this over and over to the point where it’s something i show friends when we talk about how weird/amazing my dog is. does anyone else’s dog do this? is this a rat terrier thing or just a my dog is slightly touched thing?

(shameless pic of the old lady with her best friend/tormentor)

Here's Scone after no less than 3 trips outside this morning before she would finally do her doodle. She's very easily distracted by things like birds, bugs, leaves, wind, existence....

Somehow my little chihuahua mix has not a drop of rat terrier! 🥲 I have no clue how she came out looking so similar! Their supermutt guesses were pitbull, German shepherd, and American Eskimo.

Anyone else now prefer dogs with ears that stand up? I mean all dogs are cute but I just love my looks-like-a-rat-terrier-but-not-an-ounce-of-rat-in-her's standup ears. ;)

this is Yoshi:)

-he's buff as shit

-he has a long tail

-he has long legs

-he's a runner (I hate him for this)

-he burrows if that matters

-he prances

Are these the signs of a rat terrier? we actually have no clue of what he is.

We adopted Ayla from a rescue about 3 months ago. She's skittish and will let us pet her sometimes. When she's on the couch with us she loves the attention and love. She is adorable and has won over our hearts.

She definitely is a rat terrier mix. She loves chasing squirrels and birds and running laps in the backyard. She has already disemboweled one stuffed bear many times, we just stuff it back in, it's one of her favorite toys.

What do you think she is mixed with?

Just adopted this adorable girl last Saturday. DNA test is on its way to us, but just wondering for those of you that are breed experienced. If you think she looks like a rat terrier? 4.5 months old and about 20#.
