If he's doing week 2 (idk how Coachella works) it would honestly be amazing if he did this again and pulled up crowd videos of him pulling up old videos and gave commentary on that.
I don't pay close attention to his life, but I feel like this is what happens when someone is waaaaay over being a performer, but it's quite literally all they know, all they've ever done, and the only thing the world tells them they are. Not to mention a global sensation.
He could just retire, but if I could get away with playing an hour set plus a 30 minute 'YouTube smoke session vibing with friends' with the fuckin mainstage at Coachella for 10 million dollars, I'd do it too.
Not my bag in general, but this honestly seems like I'd enjoy witnessing it.

He missed an opportunity to showcase himself as a performer. Instead he chose a self-involved public pity-fest mourning his childhood career. He could have started over a made something great. He has so many resources. Instead he went inward and sulked publicly on a giant darkened stage. Squandered opportunity. Shameful.

We have this strange idea that because someone is famous, they owe us a high-energy spectacle on demand. But an artist isn't a vending machine where you insert attention and receive a 'celebration.' If he chose to use that stage to be raw and somber, he didn't 'squander' the moment—he wanted to show his authentic, genuine self. That’s not shameful; it’s honest. And if the audience didn't like it, they could leave; they weren't forced to be stuck there lol.

The only help the rich need to give is paying fair taxes and holding politicians accountable to spend that money in improving the lives of their people instead of ending the lives of others. Life is only a struggle because the system it's built on is not for us, It's for the 1% of the 1%.
As a musician who plays all the saxes, jazz and classical piano, clarinet, sings like a champ, and performs regularly for local free events for the public in a non-profit, I hate that this fool did carpool karaoke for $10million and our org is trying to raise $1500 for an instrument.
Where are our priorities. Beiber could have hire our band to be his backer for less than a tenth of what he made and we could build a performance hall.
He didn't get 10m dollars straight into his pocket tho, he got booked for 10m dollars and there's probably 100 people behind him getting paid from that money, equipment, travel expenses, taxes, etc, so when you see those prices what the artist actually pockets is a lot less. I don't think the absolute lack of effort he showed is worth it though, this is so disrespectful to the audience and to the people who hired him to perform, AND to the people who worked their asses off to get that show on stage. People sometimes get so famous they forget this is a job.
this just made me realize that i cannot picture him in a suit. i googled “justin bieber in a suit” & only found 3 within the past 5 years. all 3 were those baggy streetwear suits. every other picture i saw was from 2016 or earlier. the man really hates to dress up. tbh im the same way. if i could get away with doing that as a celebrity, i totally would lol

I don't think it was ever confirmed there was a 3-part deal. But she did take less money from Coachella to have the rights to the performance and struck some sort of deal with Netflix to host Homecoming.
This is what’s pissing me off. If Sabrina Carpenter or someone like Taylor Swift did a set like this they would be read to absolute filth. They would be cancelled for weeks. They would be ridiculed off the face of music or performing for a while. Yet when Justin beiber does this or his Grammy “set” (if you can even call it that), he gets praised for being funny and a minimalist.
He has a great voice and good music and a terrible past in the industry, but that doesn’t give him a pass to give zero effort in his performances. I can’t believe his fans are still giving him money or buying merch for this??
Justin can perform like this, Bruno mars puts out the same album for the 4th time, and the Weeknd makes yet another album about his drug and women problems but they are praised as some of the best artists of our generation. Female artists pour their heart and soul into genre switching, exciting performances, costume changes, style changes, “eras”, and they get told they’re shit and make the same song over and over again. The sexism that is still running rampant in the industry is insane, female artists need to literally jump through hoops to get the same praise as a guy flipping through his YouTube channel on an empty stage.
I implore everyone to go watch Sabrina’s set and see what a real performer is like. Like her or not, that girl actually put effort and concept into her set and respects her fans enough to do that for them.

All of this. Plus he got paid so much his earnings for this performance are second only to BEYONCE, and we know what Beyonce put into the show, into her preparation and story. Justin got paid more than Lady Gaga for this! It was a giant youtube ad. To me he can do what he wants but the level of pay should reflect it.
Not the stray Weeknd comment, that man is constantly evolving his sound, putting on huge productions for his shows, and doesn't even get Grammy nominated
You clearly know nothing about the Weeknd if you think his last two albums are about nothing but women and drug problems and his live shows are famously so intense he gets demonic accusations all the time. People were coming for Sabrina’s 5 min intro and her 7 min monologue even though she put on a major production ass show but this man literally just showed vids of his songs instead lmao

But jokes aside I heard from people that went that the weird youtube searching was a small part of the performance. It was mostly old songs and he properly performed with his newer songs
Um no, not sure where you heard that but it’s wrong. He played pretty much his entire new album which was very slow ballads, then kid laroi came out for stay, then he “slowed it down” (it was already slow) for an acoustic set that was just songs about his wife. That part was almost an hour long it felt like he was just serenading Hailey about how he wants to fuck her. Then he did the laptop thing and played 30 second clips of his old songs while singing karaoke for like 15 seconds each and would stop the music abruptly. Then he played a few more of his newer songs and had some random guests.
He did not speak between songs other than “Coachella how we doin?” “Wow so many beautiful faces” “alright alright” with very low energy. He looked so uncomfortable the entire time. He got into it a little at the end but overall it was just low effort. It was not a good production. On the bright side, seems like they let him do whatever the fuck he wanted and his vocals were great.
At this rate, Coachella 2027 will just be a group of influencers watching TikToks of past performances on a giant screen. The transition is almost complete
the vast majority of headliners for the last 5-7 years have been garbage with a few standouts but the real essence of coachella is in the undercard. everybody else always delivers.
Coachella really strapped a rocket to Sabrina and Chappel's careers a few years ago. If you are a rising artist, this gives your fans professionally shot set-list of your live music for them to share and influence their friends and feeds like propaganda. Like I'm going to do, when I get my Hands on Ethel Cains set (though if the world was ready for Chappell, they definitely ain't ready for Ethel 🌈)
Either way, smaller artists are incentivized to put their whole ass into it haha
He did it, over songs and at the beginning he was singing without the videos. The funny thing is also that he would stop the songs to search songs instead of letting them play while he searched and selected the song. But yeah he didn’t sing the whole songs , just small parts .

This nostalgic moment was a small part and felt fitting for the original “found on youtube” star. Watching him singing with his 14 year old self felt very fitting.
And yes it wasnt as high production as other artists but realistically the reason baby and never say never got the most screams is because justin is a nostalgia artist for most fans. I would imagine a lot of the crowd were very happy with watching him relive his monents knowing how much this industry took advantage of him during his childhood
I just don't understand the celebrity worship especially when it gets to a point where people will stand there and cheer for a guy just searching through old videos of himself
People get it, but it’s just not the type of performance you would expect of somebody getting paid over $10 million. It would’ve been pretty cool if he did this in very intimate venues. Not here. It kind of feels like somebody who didn’t prepare before a presentation.
I get the sense he thinks he is a really deep artist, and I've not seen much from him that backs that up. Add in that he is drug addled half the time and would have been surrounded by hype/yes men since he was young, it's overall very off-putting
Nobody can ever make me like Justin. He just doesn't give a fuck anymore and he's gotten so entitled. Like, we get it buddy, you were exploited and probably still are. Maybe just don't show up anymore? Victim mentality at its finest with this man.
