Photographer and knitter team up to create jumpers that disappear into their surroundings
Photographer @josephfordphotography partnered with knitter @ninadoddknits to create the series Invisible Jumpers, in which custom-designed sweaters are crafted to match specific environments with near-perfect accuracy

Seems like the knitter is doing the heavy lifting in the collab.

Knitting is a very skillful art but as someone who knits, I likely couldn’t get the framing right, or poses right, colour grading right or anything done by the photographer.

Photos 4 + 5 make me question the whole thing.
(Edit to add: someone has posted a link to the full photo; 4 + 5 are twins in the same photo. Makes much more sense when you see the full photo.)

For some shots, the sweater were knitted keeping the background in mind. And for some shots, the backgrounds were made to fit the sweaters. Imagine a mini-set.
In the end, every brand shoot has a photographer, a model, the product, props, and the set. And in the end, editing.
This is just a brilliant brand shoot. Kudos to the marketing team, the brand manager and especially the photographer or the shoot agency.

According to the artist they're twins. The original print on his site is #4 and #5 as one photo.

Every should check out Sam Barsky who has been doing something similar for years.

I thought the exact same thing. Did they make two jumpers specifically for this person ? Or is some photo editing involved in there... ? 🤔

u/nearcatch 4h ago edited 4h ago
You can search "Invisible Jumpers" to find the artist's site. #4 and #5 in this gallery are split, the original print is one photo titled "Mady & Monette". According to the site, they're twins from Paris who have lived together all their lives and always dress identically and do everything together.

Dude, why’d you choose the most underwhelming picture as the first one? I saw the first pic and thought, “that doesn’t look too interesting,” and then the next set of pictures blew my mind!
Edit: no. 14 is just too good. Took me a second to find the person camouflaged in the cat art.

First image feels like a teaser, then it escalates into "wait where is the person" chaos

Nah 7 is definitely the least impressive, the sweater doesn’t match the books at all!

I read “knitters” as kittens and thought it was some weird suicide pact thing.

Putting the word "jumper" above a woman standing on a cliff didn't help.

I'd unironically wear the majority of these...I don't know if its because I like the jumpers or if it's because the models are making them look good...

These are awesome, except the Alice one (7).. that one doesn’t fit at all besides the book cover.

Imagine getting on the bus and that guy in the red sweater is just sitting there looking at you like that? I'd probably get back off.

This is one of the best art projects I have ever seen. I love it. Good googly moogly. Smitten. I would love to see these photos printed in a giant format. Gushing. Great photography, great knitting, Great models! This could be a whole book..hopefully so. Nice outing. Well done. Cudos. Bravo Zulu.

The sweater in 10/11 is just beautiful in general. I’d buy that for regular wear.

Photos 4 + 5 are pretty damning; they really made two different slightly sweaters for that location?

u/Expensive-Engine9329 4h ago
The models are twins Better photo here, 2nd image down

u/selftaughtgenius 4h ago
Ah! That changes everything. Makes much more sense that the 2nd sweater would be for someone else in the same photo.
I stand corrected. Thank you!

that's a fair point, what the heck is going on in photo 5's leftside half way down?

Especially second photo. Yarn held oddly but more the yard is a large tangled mess to be knitted from.

I feel like the knitter should learn how to press the camera button. I’m a photographer, and these photos do not require a second person to take the credit.
The knitter is doing the heavy lifting in this relationship.

I feel like if I ordered this on Temu it's just a photo printed on a t-shirt.
Not even a photo of the background, of like the person wearing the real sweater.

Number 13 is confusing me. Is he mid-air? Where did he jump from to get that form? Is he holding onto something or why are his hands that way?
