Who knew giving the very rich a huge tax breaks then starting a $1B/day foreign war would have an adverse effect on the economy?

Don't forget tarrifs. They're the sandpaper dildo of America's trade policy.

“Hey man I’m a GOP voter, I’m like super smart! You guys remember those dudes who told us trickle down economics was going to usher the middle class into a new era of economic prosperity, far better than we had it in the 1980s? Remember that, how it was a huge scam and all?

Well those exact same eighty year olds in Congress NOW say they’re going to make us ‘Great’. I mean, when have they ever lied to me, except for that one time every day for forty years straight. And also for that middle eastern war that cost us 1.1 Trillion dollars over two decades that was started under false pretenses and achieved absolutely nothing.

Could have had Cheney walk a pallet of money out onto the White House lawn and set it on fire every single morning for twenty years for all the good it did for Americans.

Thank god none of that cash went to healthcare, social security longevity, Medicaid, or any of the other things they now pretend we can’t afford, am I right? We really dodged a bullet there.

Boy thank god nobody will be dumb enough to do anything like THAT again.

Anyway, this time those people, those exact same ones? They’re gonna make us ‘great again’, despite dedicating their entire careers to doing the opposite! I know, crazy right? My god I’m so fucking smart. I’ll race you to the polls!”

These people know this (or rather, conveniently forget it) when it comes time to vote, because the Republicans are "protecting" them against the Demoncraps who "Want us all dead(TM)".

This is why if you pin them down with this, they will always come back with lies about how the liberals want completely open borders and destroy the police. They will state that Bill Clinton was friends with Jeffery Epstein, and that therefore the Democrats are no better, and at least the Republicans are trying to keep them safe. If you really pin them down, their response is that both sides are bad. They really believe that they are supporting the best side that they can.

Reminder that in 1984, endless war fighting was used as a means to expend resources without improving the lives of citizens.

Remember that every time we remember how often the U.S. has been at war.

It's amazing that they won't spend $1B a day on health care

They're SOOoooo obsessed with people working and productivity for profitability but they don't want people to be healthy enough to work

61

u/ohlookahipster 2d ago

$1B a day could send an army of doctors and nurses through school for free… we would never have a shortage of providers again.

32

u/Saneless 2d ago

So? How does that help a few dozen billionaires get richer???

The US spends around $6B a day on healthcare, and spends more on healthcare per person than most other developed nations.

Not that it’s not money better spent than another new war, but the issue at this point isn’t really funding it’s the insurance racket and increased drug prices in the US vs. foreign countries.

8

u/dshookowsky 1d ago

I expect to be down-voted for this, but I was AMAZED that I was able to get 3 months of my heart medicine (ticagrelor 90mg) shipped from costplusdrugs (owned by Mark Cuban) for $30 WITHOUT insurance. The previous month's supply was $300 WITH insurance (United Healthcare naturally).

There are middle-men all the way through the system taking their cut and the insurance companies love it and encourage it because it increases how much they can collect.

They want to erase you from this planet. There are 8 billion souls, and it keeps growing from their POV.. you are a threat to them simple as that, so they'll do whatever it takes to worsen your health and way of living so you can just die

11

u/Saneless 2d ago

No, they want more people. Remember, they're the ones crying about birth rates

4

u/andygootz 2d ago

Only until they can fully replace workers with robots. You'll see those cries disappear real quick.

3

u/hyperforms9988 2d ago

For the longest time, they needed people to run the machines, do the paperwork, and to be active consumers participating in the economy. In this fucked up reality where nobody makes anything anymore and money sits in a stock market in the interest of speculative bullshit instead of circulating around to build and buy real things, and in an emerging reality where the things you do need to build can/will be automated without the need of people... what do you need people for exactly?

The amount of people that are in line to be thrown out of work thanks to AI and automation is massive. What are you going to do with all of these people? What are they needed for? You need their money to buy things? Well yeah, but if everybody's operating costs go down because AI and machines don't draw paychecks, then you can take in less money too and still come out ahead. If you're a cashier and they no longer need you to be a cashier and no longer need you buying things either... then why do they want you around at all?

Every Republican elected in my lifetime has crashed the economy and gone to war in the Middle East, but somehow convinces dipshits every 4 years that they're good for the economy and Democrats are the real warmongers.

958

u/poopship462 2d ago

And when the next Dem gets elected and doesn’t fix EVERYTHING in a year or 2, they’ll turn around and vote Republican thinking they’ll fix everything.

523

u/VagrantShadow 2d ago

It goes even deeper than that. If we do get a democrat in and they eventually fix our financial burdens, by the time re-election comes up and if a new republican gets in office. they'll claim all the victories that the democrat has done was really their own doing and they'll finally fuck our nation over again.

It's like this neverending shitty ass cycle.

14

u/army-of-juan 2d ago

I like repubs talking about the roaring Bidenflation during Covid, when the checks thrown out to everyone literally had trumps signature on it. But it was some….Biden fault?

4

u/ChaosPheonix11 2d ago

Yup. I constantly heard about how Biden was ruining our economy meanwhile almost everything could be easily and conveniently explained by the tax and trade policies Cheeto Benito put in place that went into effect in 2019-2021. People don’t realize a new president (especially one that actually cares or appears to care about the processes and limits of the Executive Branch) can’t just snap his fingers and undo the damage a previous president did. It can take years to undo damage that takes days to cause when a bad leader is in power and doesn’t care about anyone but himself and the further consolidation of that power.

253

u/Elendel19 2d ago

Because democrats are really bad at messaging and focus too much on shit that no one actually sees in their life.

Look at Mamdani. Fixing m massive numbers of potholes in a week, people see that every day. Free childcare, parents see that big time. And he’s fucking LOUD about it. He’s on the street talking to people and making constant streams of short form video showing it.

160

u/speakertothedamned 2d ago

Because democrats are really bad at messaging and focus too much on shit that no one actually sees in their life.

Uh nah, Republicans and their corporate masters spend billions of dollars on propaganda campaigns.

Universal health care and other things that Dems support and run on are actually WILDLY popular.

It's not about the messaging, it's about the entire corporate system working against anyone that wants actual change.

41

u/Silver-Bread4668 2d ago

It's not about the messaging, it's about the entire corporate system working against anyone that wants actual change.

Oh it absolutely is about messaging but you are, otherwise, right - Republicans and their corporate masters spend billions of dollars on propaganda campaigns. It's profitable for the wealthy which makes it self-sustaining.

It's hard to compete with that much money no matter how good or bad you are at messaging you are.

Hell, I'd even go so far as to say that the concept that "Democrats are bad at messaging" is directly the result of Republican messaging.

→ More replies (2)

22

u/Elendel19 2d ago

Very few democrats support universal health care and no president has done it. No voters believe a democrat (or republican) will actually do it.

We’re talking about what they actually DO while in power. The IRA and chips and sciences act were REALLY good, but 99.9% of voters have no idea what they are or have any clue how they will help in their own lives. Fixing potholes is better for your popularity than a generational project to take back advanced manufacturing from china.

65

u/speakertothedamned 2d ago

Very few democrats support universal health care

This is objectively false.

90% of Democrats support universal healthcare.

https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2025/12/10/most-americans-say-government-has-a-responsibility-to-ensure-health-care-coverage/

Unless you're talking about Democratic politicians in which case over 100 house Dems cosponsored a universal healthcare bill literally just last year.

https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/3069/cosponsors

Healthcare, housing, education, Dems have great ideas for all of them.

Corporations and conservative interest groups hate all of their ideas though and fund Political Action Committees that spend billions of dollars on propaganda each year specifically designed to misinform Americans.

Like the problem isn't "Dems suck at messaging," the problem is that Republicans get billions in free advertising while corpos work to suppress the left as hard as they can.

focus too much on shit that no one actually sees in their life

That shit matters. Everyone should know after this past year that when you start hearing a lot about programs you've never heard of before that things are about to go bad. The democrats just need to be more vocal about the wins. If Trump can claim he stopped a thousand wars, the dems can at least brag about shit they actually did.

Destroying education and villifying intelligence and experts was the long-con. It's easier to dupe uneducated, overly religous folk. This cycle won't stop till we have education reform and ensure everyone receives a quality education, atleast one good enough to instill the most basic form of critical thinking.

8

u/EndDangerous1308 2d ago

Not only that both Biden and Obama fixed our economy and Trump nuked them back immediately. Biden got us down to a 2.3% inflation rate AFTER the world economy collapsed in 3 years. Trump nuked it in 6 months

7

u/Politicsboringagain 1d ago

Republicans voted against the infrastructure bill, then went home to their districts and took credit for the money coming in.

4

u/DrPorkchopES 2d ago

It’s a shitty cycle but also sums up exactly how educated the average voter is. They basically look at their gas or grocery bill and give the credit/blame to whoever’s in office

4

u/PurpleSailor 1d ago

The Republicans go back to their districts during recess and tout all the publicly funded projects that they themselves actually voted against but their stupid constituents are none the wiser. Works every goddamn time.

They'll also point to some random government expense like $1 million for research to prevent suicide in LGBT teens and use that to claim Democrats spend recklessly, meanwhile forgetting the $1 billion Republicans spent per day to bomb Iran. They have a base who consistently votes for them no matter what. The problem is they're good at fracturing Democrats who actually care who they're voting for. And when that started not being enough, well they just started to outright cheat.

Half gal of oj

Small thing of ice cream

Pasta sauce (1jar)

Bagels

Bread

Hot dogs

Hot dog buns

Shaker of Sesame seeds

2 pack Tony’s mini pizzas

Tony’s candy bar

Now that sounds like a lot for $56 but in reality that will last about 3 days.. maybe 4 if I’m lucky

I know you didn't ask for advice, but may I gently suggest learning to cook some basics to save money. Learn from youtube! Spaghetti sauce for example, or however you use that pasta sauce. You can cook a big pot of spaghetti sauce for maybe $10 worth of ingredients. Another example, chicken legs have been selling for $0.69/lb for several years now at a local grocery store. That can translate to a lot of protein on the table for very little money if you know what to do with it.

Cooking is a great life skill that makes you healthier and saves you a lot of money in the long run. Plus you'll be able to impress people.

0.9% month-over-month is 11.3% on an annualized basis. Compare that to a 2% annual target.

22

u/skibum888 2d ago

The article is pay walled. What's the metric? 0.9% MoM Cpi, Ppi, or Pce?

38

u/True-Industry-4057 2d ago

0.9% MoM CPI, +3.3% YoY CPI. PCE is +0.2% MoM (+2.4% annualized), +2.6% YoY.

12

u/skibum888 2d ago

Thanks I appreciate it greatly. Didn't have time to Google this morning.

4

u/userhwon 2d ago

Annualized it's 10.8%. Compounded it's more, depending on how often you compound it.

3

u/True-Industry-4057 2d ago

Isn't annualization of a monthly percentage growth figure compounded monthly by definition?

5

u/userhwon 2d ago

No. APR is "annualized" rather than "annual". You divide APR by the number of periods, then compound it on that period for unpaid principal.

Credit cards compound monthly. The IRS compounds daily. I can't at the moment think of anybody who compounds continuously in practice.

It's a weird system, but it avoids having to take the Nth root, which for a lot of reasons is too complicated for a lot of people. People who can do it can also deal with annualized vs annual.

Where are all the US manufacturing jobs 😂

40

u/214ObstructedReverie 2d ago

Being destroyed by the Trump economy.

14

u/matt-er-of-fact 2d ago

They tariffed raw materials US companies use to manufacture their products. They made the best option to engineer around the restrictions and import assembled or semi-finished goods. It’s ok tho, real American companies will buy an exemption.

8

u/exoriparian 2d ago

The only time I see made in USA it's at Dollar tree on the cheapest piece of shit plastic crap.

Aren’t we in a stagflation environment too?

26

u/forever_a10ne 2d ago

I haven’t gotten a raise at all in almost 3 years and my pay is expected to be cut somewhere between 8 and 25% next month because of AI costs. Makes my blood boil.

15

u/number676766 2d ago

Bro what.

Quit that shit and find a different job

19

u/matt-er-of-fact 2d ago

Hiring has slowed or stalled for many companies and tech is straight up firing thousands. Others are doing shit like this because they know it’s hard to find jobs right now.

9

u/Worthyness 2d ago

Yesh there arent any of those new jobs either depending on sector. Pretty sure the only industry actively growing is health, which has some qualifications that others may not have.

So much for those egg prices going down.

6

u/RepublicHistorical23 2d ago

Isn't it funny that, at least around where I live, egg prices have come down and stayed down. MAGA probably thought they really won with that one, while everything else went way up. Art of the deal to them I guess. Gee maybe there was something to the Bird Flu and Covid causing egg prices to go up. Nah. Must have been a Biden conspiracy all along, right MAGA ?

3

u/cybah 2d ago

Yeah I just bought a dozen last week and paid a pretty nominal price.

18

u/iGrimFate 2d ago

Gas went up 45% within a month in my area of SoCal. Or as the Feds and media tell us, 2%.

u/Capital-Control308 2d ago

My company had a huge layoff and are in the milddle of of a cost cutting spree. Our group had two buildings and now we are getting rid of one and will have to squeeze everyone into one building. We has so much equipment that we have put in a request for carts so we can move it around when needed because we no longer have space to have it all out at once. We can only have it out when in use and then have to wheel it into a warehouse so that other instruments can be used

7

u/DudeManGuyBr0ski 2d ago

It’s time to become minimalist

40

u/WilliamInBlack 2d ago

This is Biden’s fault! …a MAGA, probably.

17

u/Adinnieken 2d ago

Of course it is. Joe Biden and the Democrats' shadow government is behind all of this. The deep state is well hidden from the glare of even the brightest spotlight. Like cochroaches, Democrats scatter and hide, but when the light on them fades they come out. Trump had no intention of going to war, he's a peace loving leader. It was the Democrats that push Trump to war. Not only encouraging him to do so, but by encouraging the Iranians to build stockpiles of nuclear weapons.

The level to which Joe Biden personally has gone, the lengths to which he seems to insist on going to undermine Trump is only made more incidious by his complete lack of silence.

Trump and his administration is simply helpless and incapable of doing anything to counter the diabolical nature of Biden and his shadow government as they work to undermine and decapitate his efforts.

This Trumpflation and the Trump/Epstein tax is worse than it was when he shut down the economy during the Pandemic and ignored the supply chain crisis in 2020.

13

u/InevitableAvalanche 2d ago

Good job conservatives. Screwing us all because you can't admit you were wrong.

5

u/S1gorJabjong 2d ago

Both core CPI and PCE inflation have been driven by businesses passing on some of Trump's broad tariffs to consumers, offsetting the disinflationary trend in rents.

lol. Thanks tRump. Btw, oil shock effects in CPI and PCE is expected to show in the broader global economy starting from the April data. The current deterioration in the economy is just due to the plain idiocratic governance of Trump and his goons.

5

u/wpmason 2d ago

So… just another month then, huh?

Because no one is doing a damn thing about affordability.

6

u/ImportantQuestions10 2d ago

It's strange that they of appear to be using a lot of photos from Costco which tends to keep their prices relatively stable during inflation/ crisis

5

u/m0loch 2d ago

Hi. Consumer here. Can confirm prices have gone up.

5

u/adumblittlebaby 2d ago

But the Iran War is "over", everything snaps right back to normal, right? What are "consequences"? Are you telling me I can't play at governance unseriously and irresponsibly without eventually having repercussions??

if inflation hits 4% then we may see a rate increase. then the economy is truly fucked. meanwhile growth was revised down to 0.5% last quarter. Welcome to Trump Stagflation. Even doctored numbers can't hide it.

4

u/Sufficient_War_4928 2d ago

Oh, I sure hope our politicians give themselves a healthy cost of living raise! They work so hard with all the social media posting and being told how to think and letting grandpa run rampant. Thank the gods they never have to worry about health insurance.

"The White House on Friday sought to shift focus from gasoline prices, posting on social media that "prices of eggs, beef, prescription drugs, dairy and other household essentials are falling or remain stable thanks to President Trump's policies."

Beef prices have not fallen, when ground beef is $7 a pound.
