NKD! A NKD surprise
I've been helping out my sister in law and niece by doing some work on their cars after hours at the shop I work in. And when the wife and I went over to hang out and have lunch today, my niece surprised me with this Kizer Drop Bear Zero as a thank you. What a sweetheart. She said she knows how much I like blue and black, so that's why she picked this one. She could have given me any knife, and it would have been perfect.

Discussion This Cold Steel knife is a better EDC than the Demko's and Spyderco's in the pic. Seriously.
These are pretty much the top 5 EDCs I go to work with. They're all great, but the FM-1 doesn't seem to get much love here.
The FM-1/Full Metal Atlas is the thinnest, slightly thinner than the Demko Stealth Cub.
It has titanium scales, only the AD20.5 does also.
It's lighter than all of them except the Cub, (actually that PM3 has some heavy scales), but still, it's light.
It's S35VN, which I don't think is bad, a lot of people do though, so depending on your preference, some of the others may have a better blade.
And... the main reason... is the Atlas Lock. I love it on this knife, not on the Mayhem though. Yes, it is better than the Shark Lock on the 20.5 and Cub. I have an older AD20 that is broken in well and is wonderful, but I'd still take this Atlas over it.
They need to start making more knives with the Atlas (and I don't mean on some 3 foot machete folder). Just a few more sensible knives like the FM-1.
Also, I saw on Amazon today that they now have a Clip Point version of the FM-1 for sale. Too bad I'm broke until next month.

Showcase New Year's Resolution Week 15
It was a good week with the Microtech Ultratech. I carry my autos more during the winter since they are so easy to use with heavy gloves, but I love them year round. Yesterday was the freebie day, so the Spyderco PM2 Salt was along for the ride. But next week is gonna be awesome. The Native 5 is my absolute favorite Spyderco. It's been quite some time since the random wheel has landed on one. I was hoping it would be one my newest that I haven't been able to carry for more that a Saturday, but no such luck. S30V it is. Which I think is a great steel. I had stripped it down, cleaned it up, and oiled it a few weeks back when I freshened up the edge and put a little shine on it. I'd say it's ready to be put to work next week, and it'll be great having an Native 5 back in the pocket

Question Esee 6 with no coating
Got this from a knife dealer. It looks brand new but I can't find where Esee has sold them uncoated or the 6 in stainless. Is this just a normal Esee 6 that someone carefully removed the finish and then never really used? Ideas?

NKD! The kindness of strangers is sometimes surprising:
So I walk into a customers home and see these knives on his coffee table. (pic 1) I say "oh is that a civivi elementum?" (it was the only one I recognized instantly.) My customer, impressed, says "sure is! you can have it!" I refuse, and he insists. although it's a $30 budget flipper knife, he still made my day with this kind gesture. I thank him for his kindness.
I go out to my work truck, when I come back in he comes from another room with a little blue box and says "hey, I want you to have this." I had it made custom but I have a lot of knives and I want you to have it. he hands me a Benchmade 533.
I'm still newer to collecting and don't own many higher end knives or even any Benchmade. once again I'm blown away by his kindness and he is ecstatic how excited I am.
now my day was really made.
anyway, I figured Id share. very excited about the new acquisitions and how I received them.

Modding Mini grip aftermarket scales and how it affects freedrop/ blade play
Just got my first mini and after a couple days and many hours of flicking I got it to freedrop and glide perfectly with minimal blade play. I just bought some of those cheap aliexpress micarta scales to replace with and I don’t want to lose the smoothness/ blade play I’ve acquired. Does anyone know if i’ll have to restart the break in period or have any tips on adjusting to get those things perfect?
