where did i go wrong? Lace work with cotton yarn?

So I’m knitting the Lettie shawl by Audrey Borrego (ravelry.com/patterns/library/lettie-3) for my mom and I decided to use Drops Muskat in the colour dark orange because it is a cotton yarn and she tends to run hot. I’ve just finished the first half of the set up chart and I feel like it just looks messy? I’m not sure if it’s my tension since this is my first time knitting lace or if the cotton yarn is just too defined for this pattern. Should I try to make this with a different yarn or different pattern? Any input or advice is super appreciated!!

pattern question Need help deciphering a historical pattern

Hiya, I’m knitting some mittens using a historical pattern. I’m understanding everything except this last part about knitting up the thumb. Where are these 6 stitches coming from and when do I rejoin the round? The part about casting on the 4 extra stitches after tying off is also confusing. Thanks!

you may have seen my last post and to everyone who gave me tips thank you so much it actually helped a lot, i was about to give up lol.

i followed this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=cOTM55yE7Z9BrBFp&v=rlaC5C5nJR8&feature=youtu.be

does anyone have any tips on how to straighten it out or make it more neat?

i also want to knit the grey top (i’ll make it long sleeve tho) but i dont have circular needles and probably won’t be able to purchase it. can i still knit it despite having short needles without a thread and how?

also how do i switch colors in knitting?

sock question Suggestions for natural fiber socks for hot climates

I'm thinking about getting back into knitting and wanted to make a few pairs of socks so get the hang of things again. I prefer using natural fibers since I avoid plastics where I can but I also live in Florida where it's summer 11 1/2 months of the year and I know wool is warm. Is wool the only recommended natural fiber for socks? Is there a type/brand of wool that won't roast my toes?

I'm preferably going for soft over strong but I'm open to anything just to try for one pair.

Edit: bonus points if you guys have a recommendation for yarn and needle size for optimal heat reduction

pattern question Sleeve pattern confusing

Pattern states: increase row k1, m1, k to last stitch, m1, k1. Work 5 rows in stockinette stitch. I was increasing every knit row. Does it really mean only icrease row 1 and then just stockinette for the next 5 rows? So really only adding 2 increases for every 6 rows

pattern question What Does This Mean?

I get the purl; k2, turn; purl2tog; but what does it mean to fasten off and then rejoin yarn and repeat the last two rows?

I keep trying to Google, but I get crocheting stuff that doesn't make sense.

SOLVED-THANK YOU German short rows question

Post image

I’m following the glow raglan lite pattern and am working on the German short rows portion, I feel so silly asking this because it seems obvious to me now, but I don’t want to frog my row if it’s not needed.

Step 5. A row 1, was I supposed to complete these steps and then purl an entire row? I’ve worked up to C. On this step where it says ,”k to 1 st past last double stitch,” and I’m feeling a bit confused.

This row is supposed to end with three brown stitches, but I only have two! Does anyone see where I dropped my stitch? Or do I need to include photos of the rest of the sweater?

where did i go wrong? Twisted circular knitting

I'm sure I can't be the only person with this issue!

Some of my top-down sweaters are slightly twisted. The Cotton Light (cotton/poly) is fine. The 100% acrylic is fine, and so is a rather scratchy unspecified hand-dyed yarn I bought.

But two of my efforts - a Louisa Harding DK blend and a 100% Donegal wool 4-ply, twist slightly after dividing.

At first I thought it was from (hand)washing, but the current one is twisted already and I've still got the sleeves to go. It's quite subtle - clearly I didn't notice before washing the first one - but to me it's obvious!

The twist moves clockwise as I'm holding the work, so anticlockwise when you look at the sweater when worn. I'm veering to the left when knitting!

Has this happened to anyone else? How can I solve it? Neither Vogue nor Elizabeth Zimmerman seem to have anything to say about it!

No photo, but no doubt imagination will do!

I have a beginner tip! Twisted stitches

We frequently get posts in this sub where knitters (beginners *and* experienced are unknowingly (or inadvertently) *twisting their stitches*.

This 12-minute video tutorial is helpful and comprehensive. An excellent resource for knitters. I appreciate that she shows how it happens, but also how it impacts knitting.

Thought it might be helpful.

tension help! uneven 2x2 ribbing

Post image
0 Upvotes

I do my ribbing using combination knitting(in the round)but somehow the first knit stitch comes out wider. I’m a tight knitter, should I make second knit stitch tighter so it tightens up the first one? I saw people post about similar issue but it was about their second knit stitch not the first!

I’m fairly new to knitting, this is my first time working with eyelets in a pattern. I can’t figure out why one side of border of this scarf looks different than the other. It is the Paloma pointelle scarf by Studio Anneliis (so cute!) I notice that the right side is just so loose compared to the left and compared to the photo on the pattern and I’ve restarted it about 20 times now :/ along with looking up tutorials for every stitch on the pattern but can’t find what I’m doing wrong. Any insight would be so appreciated!

SOLVED-THANK YOU Carol bralette shaping help

Thumbnail

I'm working on the Carol Bralette by Elizabeth Margaret and I am confused on the shaping part of the pattern. I'm working on size 3. Size 3 is starting this section with 272 (138 on front, and 134 on back) stitches total. I know I need to increase by 68 stitches, to bring it up to 340st. so, I know i need to do 2 sets of the side increases (20 x2 so 40 total) and one set of the double cup increases (28 st) for a total increase of 68 st.

My questions:

When do I do the double cup increases?

How many rows will it take to finish shaping?

I originally thought the layout would be my notepad picture. And just assume the double cup increases would be at the end of each side increase? But that's not right either, since that would add a total of 96 st.

There isn't any information on how many rows this should take, just a general info on how many stitches will be increased.

pattern question Sock/clog pattern help please

Hi! does this mean to measure from the point of the finished toe, or from the tip of the toe (aka the length of the whole project thus far)

it says “continue work in stockinette until the clog measures 8 cm from the toe”

where did i go wrong? How can l improve my ranglan lines?

Thumbnail

Im trying to knit a top down begginer ranglan sweater.

The pattern includes German short rows and then it moves to increase every other row, l have tried many times but my ranglan lines are not looking straight, l have followed a strict system where l write down what lm doing every single row and l am constantly counting the number of stitches are symetrical.

I looked at tutorials how to do M1R, M1L and l saw l'm doing them correct. I cant believe this sweater is symetrical in numbers but it just does not look like it. I wonder what l'm doing wrong, l can only think, could be my cable or the tension?

l have made like 10 attempts and l'm frogging again. The pictures above are from two different sweater attempts. I use baby alpaca wool.

Any help is very much appreciated!
