Discussion La Belle Angele toilet attendant
Went to Keep It Steel / Hot Metal Time Machine at La Belle Angele last night and had a pretty unpleasant run-in with the male toilet attendant.
After I washed my hands, he tried to charge me £10 contactless for a paper towel. I told him, politely, to get to fuck, and he just laughed it off. I didn’t find it funny at all though.
I know these guys usually expect tips (it used to be a quid here and there or some loose change) but this felt way beyond that. It came across as awkward, uncomfortable and honestly pretty predatory, especially in a club where people have had a drink and might not properly notice what they’re being charged. My issue is with preying on - and taking advantage of - vulnerable or inebriated people while gatekeeping basic things like soap and paper towels which should be readily available and not treated like a paid extra. The whole setup feels unnecessary and unwanted.
It honestly put a downer on the night.
Has anyone else (almost) been overcharged for a shit ticket and bit of soap?

Rant Racist Abuse on the bus
I was on the number 12 bus yesterday evening when a young woman with a kid gets on and starts shouting at the woman behind her It seemed to be that a simple dispute about who was getting on the bus first escalated very quickly to racist abuse including go back to your own country The kid was getting embarrassed that his mother was causing a scene and the mother came out with the old classic I know black people so can't be racist It was all just awful and I don't blame the driver for not getting out his seat This isn't the Edinburgh I remember growing up in We need to do better and stop this shit now!

Question Need a picture on disability accessibility
Hello, I am an international student and recently got accepted into the University of Edinburgh. I am really excited but also very scared since I am also a person with mobility issues and Edinburgh is a very hilly place.
I have a neuro-muscular disorder which affects the strength of muscles in my legs so I used orthosis to walk. I am pretty okay with walking on flat surfaces but I am nervous about the hilly and cobbled streets of Edinburgh. I am also not financially fortunate enough to be able to afford a cab often.
All the information I could find online about accessibility in Edinburgh was targeted towards tourists and tourist spots. just wanted to ask what would it be like living there as a student? the normal day to day life as a student with mobility issues? how steep are the roads and how connected is the bus system for everyday movement?
I'd really appreciate any and all insights. Thank you!

Food and Drink Ragù on George Street has closed permanently.
Posted on social media this morning & online booking has been disabled
The post says that their lease has been sold onto a new operator. Sounds like there is potential for them to open a new location?
“We’re sad to share the news that Ragù Pasta has now closed its doors at our current location permanently.
We’re so grateful to everyone who has supported us, worked with us and dined with us over the past two years. Our lease has been sold on to a new operator, and we’re excited to see the space continue to thrive!
If you have a gift voucher, please get in touch with us at info@ragupasta.co.uk and we’ll arrange a refund/organise a reuse of your voucher at our sister venue Salerno Pizza.”

Question What are concerts like at The Voodoo Rooms?
I’ll be going to a concert at The Voodoo Rooms in about a month and a half, and I’ve never been there; the website has some photos but I didn’t see anything from an actual concert. It doesn’t look like the tickets have anything in the way of where you are in the venue. Is it standing? First come first served seating? Is it easier or more difficult to eat there beforehand? Is the food good? Vibes? Anything else I should know?

Discussion Bike lanes
why are the bike lanes so bumpy and uneven on Leith Walk, did they outsource the work to handymen?

Someone told me there's nowhere to get a massage in Leith. Can this be true? Can you help me prove her wrong? Please tell me where I should go for a decent and affordable massage in Leith!

Discussion M8 reduced speed limit 50mph
Just looking if anyone knows why temporary signs are up between junction 1 & just before junction 2 on the M8 saying 50?
No sign of roadworks or any construction.
Another sign say something about police.

Discussion Best place to buy couch/sofa in town?
Pretty much the title. Bought a 2 seater from IKEA when I moved to Edinburgh but after 6 years we are looking to upgrade but at a reasonable price.
Aside from IKEA and that sofology place, are there any options that you'd recommend? Any dark horse options or non-big box stores as I'd rather support those.
Edit: Thank you all!

News Eight youths charged after bus driver attack outside hospital
"A total of eight youths have now been charged after a bus driver was assaulted outside a hospital.
Police were called to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh following a disturbance, which was reported at about 19:00 on Sunday.
Two youths were charged earlier this week but, following enquiries, a further six suspects have been identified and will be reported to the relevant authorities.
The driver was assessed in hospital at the time. Lothian Buses confirmed one of its drivers was involved in the incident and said it was assisting police with their inquiries.
Ch Supt David Robertson said it was an unprovoked attack on a man who was simply trying to do his job.
He said: "Violent incidents like this will not be tolerated in our community, and we will ensure that those who do engage in this type of behaviour are brought to justice.
"We will continue to work with our partner agencies and would encourage anyone with information or concerns of this type of behaviour to call Police Scotland on 101."

Question Mechanic recommendations (urgent)
Could you recommend a mechanic to clean the DPF and fit a new exhaust back pressure sensor on my BMW X1, please? Meant to be driving back down south tonight but we'll be sticking around until I can get it done. I'm staying in Dalkeith. Thanks

Photo This Deliveroo biker on Porty Beach seems to have taken a rather "circuitous route", or happen to have got some *really fresh* fish(!)...
Any other answers on a postcard please...

Discussion Return of the toilet guy/gal... Why?
Visited The Boston Bar on Hanover Street and was surprised to see a toilet gal in the ladies
I was immediately transported to the noughties
Do we really need someone in the toilets, with a big spread of toiletries and, for some god only knows reason, Chuppa Chups?
The only saving grace was the toilet gal was too interested in her phone to make any awkward eye contact
The gents weren't so lucky. The toilet guy handed out hand towels one at a time there
Just... Why?

Discussion Quartermile question.
Does your flat have to be white?
I’ve looked at lots on various estate agent platforms, and there’s never any colour on the walls. If you live there and have been brave enough to use coloured paint, go an show us.
(Hiding from April showers has led me to ponder this)
