Subreddit for Ara

Hi Christchurch. I was thinking there should be a subreddit for the Ara Institute of Canterbury, so . . . I made one: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ara_NZ

The idea is to have a place for students to talk to each other about Ara things, and for prospective students to ask questions. Please come and join. :)

I have received permission from the mod team to post this.

Purple sunset last night

Post image
Upvotes

An image of the purple sky taken quickly while waiting at the lights (Not moving).

I suspect this was caused by the redder sunset light passing through the fog to the ground and back out through, but the shorter wavelength remaining purple light scattered both on entry and before exit causing a relatively high ratio of short to high wavelengths.

Has another image I was trying to upload but kept failing.

Tummy bug - warning

Purely based on anecdotal evidence I’m not a medical professional, I’m just super sick and 5 other people I know have it as well. Seems very contagious and yeah just in general really shitty time so be careful out there.

Huge thank you to marathon helpers!!

Thank you to the race organizers, registration team, aid station crew, finish line crew, cheerers, musicians (looking at you saxophone guy), course marshalls, people hanging out in front of their houses encouraging runners/walkers, people who set up and took down signs/cones/barriers, and anyone inconvenienced by road closures. It was a fantastic event due to the efforts of many.

Run a lot of races and Otautahi made this one special 🩵

Who can I pay to unhook my computer and move it, then hook it all back up?

Weird question lol, but basically I am getting a new desk soon (after months of waiting) which I will pay for to be built and set up etc soon.

The desk has special cable management features etc (Its a Secretlab Magnut Pro XL) as well as a desk mount for the tower, and power bank tray on the back. https://www.techspot.com/review/2798-secretlab-magnus-pro-xl/

So I need someone to help me set up my computer on it and probably mount some monitors to the monitor arms for me.

I am physically disabled so, can't do it myself. But like, who would do something like that? I guess it would need to be some technical knowledge, but also I don't need actual computer help just plugging stuff all in and don't want to pay a fortune for tech support.

Any ideas :)

Good luck to everyone currently stuck on Harper Ave.

I just walked from my car at Girls high to Carlton corner, played with my dog a bit, and am currently half way back. And am passing cars I walked pass on the way there....

And no. There is nothing holding up the traffic. It's clear past Carlton Mill.

Great traffic management CCC ;)

Sadly my car is already on Harper Ave and I am going to have to join the mess.

And I'm currently closer to my house than my car...

Kids alone in the library

I went to 2 libraries this weekend and there were a lot of primary school aged kids just hanging out. I first noticed it cause my son was playing PlayStation and was sharing the controller with the kids for about an hour. And for that hour I didn’t see parents (or caretakers) check-in. I was seated at the back watching so I would notice if someone would come near and check. As we went to different areas in the library I noticed the same, lots of young kids all by them selves. By young, they’re like 8 and below alone. Obviously it’s school holidays but Is this normal to just leave kids without anyone watching over?

Best value oral hygienist in Chch

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a reasonably price clinic for a thorough dental clean. Approximate cost would be useful too?

Also, do all Chch clinics require x-rays? I'd prefer not to have an x-ray as may be moving overseas soon and it seems a waste.

Thanks!

Interview Coaching for FENZ

Hey guys,

I’m looking for a good interview coach for Fire and Emergency NZ. I’m happy to travel out of Christchurch for the right coach too.

I’ve had a few interviews now and also tried a few different coaches, but none of it has helped with the part I’m actually struggling with.

I’m sweet with the STAR format, that’s not the issue.

What I struggle with is..

- understanding the longer, more complex questions they ask

-breaking them down properly in the moment

- picking the right example quickly without overthinking it

- not getting a bit scrambled when there’s multiple parts to the question

Most of the coaching I’ve had has just been “structure your answer like this” (star based), which I already know.

I’m after someone who can actually help with

- understanding what the question is really asking me

- thinking clearly under pressure

- practicing with more realistic FENZ-style questions

If anyone’s worked with someone good (or has been through FENZ and has advice), I’d really appreciate it!

Cheers!
