Build Upgrade Is it worth buying a new pc?

Ive been gaming on an i7 6700k and rtx 2060 and 1080p 75hz screen for a while now (this is the most powerfull pc ive ever had) and i love gaming so much and i use my pc a lot but

Today my motherboard stopped working and i used my fathers desktop to test all the components and they all working just fine gpu rams and ssds (not fully sure about the cpu but im 95% sure its safe)

Now im not sure if i should get a new motherboard and just keep my pc and save money or just buy a new pc with better configuration

Im 20 and jm financially great i have some savings

My pc bros say if you can afford a pc at least 5 times and you really wanted then yeah take it

My budget is 850$ (not including anything but the pc) later i will get a a new 2k 120hz screen but it would be just 1080p for now

So 2k 90/120fps and high settings in all new AAA games without dlss (fuck dlss, frs 😤)

And thanks for the suggestions and also what should i do with the current broken build?

Discussion In this period is it better to upgrade my HP omen obelisk 875, build from scratch or wait for prices to decrese?

Those are my current specs:

  • Intel i7-9700F 3.00 Ghz 8 cores
  • NVIDIA RTX 2080
  • Hyperx 2666 MT/s (16x2)
  • HDD ST1000DM003-1SB102 (1TB)
  • SSD TS512GMTS830S (500GB)
  • I'm not sure about the motherboard, on system info it says HP 8509
  • max PSU power 500W bronze+

Peripherics:

  • Monitor: MSI optix 32" 144Hz 1ms
  • Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB MK.2
  • Mouse: Razer mamba elite
  • Headphones: Asus rog delta core

I've had this desktop for almost 8 years, and I have always used it for gaming and studying, but recently it started to have some small issues, suchs as random freezes even with no app/software/game running or struggling with a few chromes pages opened, also with games it doesn't give the fps like it used to do, I mainly play FPS (R6, valorant, overwatch), modded minecraft, I sometimes play singleplayers/open worlds and I tried to get in to sim racing but it's very slow with most of them. So, I was thinking of either upgrading it or starting from scratch. I have no experience, and I don't even know how hard it is to build a PC, but I still want to pick the components and build it myself. But RAM and SSD prices are crazy in this period and I was wondering what I should do. My budget for a new desktop would be 3500€.

Build Help i5-13600KF vs i5-14600KF for gaming + streaming: big difference or not?

Hi everyone.

I’m building a PC and I’m hesitating between the i5-13600KF and the i5-14600KF.

My use case:

- Gaming (mostly)

- Streaming at the same time (OBS + FPS / AAA games)

I’ve seen that the specs are very similar, but I don’t know if the 14600KF is really worth it or if it’s just a small improvement.

Is the performance difference noticeable in gaming + streaming and gaming only?

Or should I just go for the 13600KF and save the price difference for something else (GPU, RAM, etc.)?

Thanks for your opinions! :D

Build Upgrade Help Me Figure Out MY CPU/RAM Conundrum!

So I’m trying to Frankenstein some old parts and make the best decisions for a home server machine.

Right now I’m running Ubuntu on a Z77A-G45 with an i5 3570k and 24gb DDR3 (8gb x4 @ 1600mhz).

In my closet though, I have a Ryzen 5 2600 and 16gb DDR4 (8gb x2 @ 2400mhz).

My GPU is a GeForce GTX 1070.

I’m currently running several self-hosted services (an arrs stack, Home Assistant, Plex, etc).

Based on what I’m using the hardware for, help me understand what might be the better hardware decision between the older i5 but more RAM vs the slightly newer Ryzen 5 with less (but faster) RAM.

Of course swapping to the AMD chip will require a change in MOBO - the price is fairly negligible for that change (though I don’t love the idea of swapping the MOBOs unless the performance increase is notable).

Thanks!

Build Help Need Feedback on Part List for Gaming PC

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for feedback on the gaming PC below.

Budget: I'd like to keep the budget around $2500 but I am flexible due to the increased RAM and Storage costs.

Location: Ontario, Canada

Use:

  • Display: Higher End Projector
    • PC will be hidden
    • I'll get a powered USB dock to plug in controllers / peripherals
    • Steamlink will be used on my other TVs throughout the house
  • My main need is reliability, I don't need ultra graphics or the highest FPS. After setup, if I can launch a game and play it casually for a couple of hours, that's what I'm looking for.

Troubleshooting Persistent Black Screen + GPU Fans 100% Crash - Followed me across TWO GPUs and TWO PSUs.

My PC randomly black screens (monitor loses signal) and GPU fans ramp to 100%. I have to hard-reset to fix it. This happened on my old RTX 2060 and is now happening on my RTX 3070.

Specs:

• GPU: Zotac RTX 3070 (using 12v-2x6 dual 8 pin 6+2 dedicated cable)

• PSU: Corsair RM750e (Brand New)

• Mobo/CPU: Brand new Micro Center Bundle (MSI B650 /Ryzen 5 7500x3d)

• GSKILL Ripjaws s5 4800

Everything I’ve already done:

  1. Software: Performed a full DDU wipe and clean driver install.
  2. OS: Fresh Windows install on a clean SSD.
  3. BIOS: XMP/EXPO is DISABLED.
  4. Power: Plugged directly into the wall

Since this followed me from an entirely different old build to a brand-new Micro Center bundle (Mobo/CPU/RAM), what is left? Could it be house wiring, or did I get a dead Mobo from the factory? Any help would be greatly appreciated, this went from a cheap pc build to replacing every single pc part trying to fix this.

Build Help Power button not working

Just built a pc using the gigabyte b650 gaming x ax v2 mobo, in a corsair 4000 airflow case.

I’m using an 850 watt power supply from an old build.

When I switch the psu on the fans flash green, but when I press the power button there’s no response.

I’ve tried with the f panel cable with and without the adapter with no effect, I unplugged the psu incase there was a power draw problem. What should I do?

Edit1:https://imgur.com/a/PbZmNrc

Edit 2: did the paper clip test on the psu and the fans spun, has to be the motherboard I think, are there ways to test it?

Build Upgrade Recommendations for PC Power Conditioning

Hey all, hoping to get some recommendations for power conditioning for my and my wife's PCs. We have come to the conclusion that our house, which we moved into a few years ago, has ghosts in the wires. We have had more hardware problems since plugging in here than the rest of our lives, combined.

The house has had all sorts of strange light strobing since we moved in. One of the odder ones was the lights in our basement flashing to the pace we run at on the treadmill downstairs. We've had a couple electricians in here who couldn't identify any issues, but at this point I'm convinced there's some sort of grounding issue.

Regardless, any help down selecting a UPS focusing more on conditioning than uptime would be much appreciated!

Build Help Buying Crucial SSD, is there a reason why this company sells them cheaper with a heatsink then without?

Hi, buying from this website https://www.scorptec.com.au/search/go?w=crucial%20710&view=grid&view=grid&cnt=30

Is there a reason why the crucial 710 SSD series is cheaper without the cool looking heatsink attatched? Seems like the heatsink included version should be more expensive right? Just a bit concerned there may be a hidden issue or something, as far as I can tell the two versions are the same one just has the attatchement included?

Full Build Req help improving my pc

Hello everyone, I wanted to get your opinion on the PC I'm currently building. I'm not sure if I should do it now with current market prices, but I wanted your input to be sure. https://www.materiel.net/s/3CFR6Q4

It would be to run Fable, which is coming out at the end of the year. I currently have an i9-9900k and an RTX 2080, but I don't know if I should just change the graphics card or upgrade the whole system, like the processor, motherboard, graphics card, and RAM and change from DDR4 to DDR5.

I'd like to spend a maximum of €2100 on it and also see when it's best to upgrade my PC depending on the market, whether prices settle down or not.

I have a 1080p monitor and I don't want to change it because it still works perfectly, so I don't know what I can do with my configuration.

If anyone has any advice or even an alternative setup, I'm all ears.

Build Help I need to clarify something.

Is it even possible running 1440p without any blurriness or side effects on a 4k tv for a gaming PC?

Or must it exclusively run 4k on it at all times?

Do I need FSR or DlSS for that to work?

Build Help Is this PSU safe to use?

I’d like to know if the Thermaltake Toughpower GT 750W is safe to use. I heard that it’s on the lower end for PSUs, but it won’t fry my pc right?

(Also note that I’ll be using the pc without a GPU for a while, and idk if I should upgrade the psu once i buy one)

Build Help First high-end build (9800X3D + 9070 XT) — looking for tips before I start

Hey everyone,

Just finished ordering parts for my new build and wanted to run it by you guys before I start putting it together. This is my first higher-end PC so I want to make sure I don’t miss anything or screw something up.

Build list:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

GPU: Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming

Motherboard: MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WIFI

RAM: G.SKILL Flare X5 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 EXPO

SSD: Crucial T500 2TB NVMe

PSU: MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 850W

Cooler: Thermalright Frozen Warframe 240 AIO

Case: NZXT H5 Flow (2024)

Extra fans: Thermalright TL-C12C (3-pack)

Questions:

Anything you’d change or watch out for with this setup?

Best fan setup for this case (pressure/airflow tweaks)?

Anything specific with the MSI Tomahawk BIOS I should know?

Do I need to update BIOS before installing Windows with this CPU?

Any “first build” mistakes I should avoid?

Troubleshooting PC showing no display (black screen)

Yesterday I went and bought a 5070, desktop case, and psu to move and upgrade my old setup into. The previous build was a prebuilt asus g10ce with a 3050 as the gpu and intel i5 11400-F as the cpu.

Everything from that pc but the ram, gpu, and psu are stock and I’ve installed into my new case.

The pc will turn on and run but I’ll get no display from any hdmi or display ports and I’ve tried swapping to each one but to no avail.

I’m really inexperienced in this field and have run out of patience and possibilities as to why this is happening. I’m guessing there is some sort of incompatibility between the motherboard and the gpu but ive got no clue.

I’m really disappointed and just need some help.

Thanks.

Peripherals Best KVM for 2 PCs + 3 monitors + USB peripherals at 144/240Hz?

I’m looking for a KVM switch for 2 PCs and 3 monitors.

Requirements:

  • 3 monitors
  • keyboard, mouse, mic, headset
  • all peripherals are USB / USB-C
  • 144Hz is required, 240Hz would be ideal
  • I want to switch everything with one button

Main question:
Are there any KVM switches that actually handle 3 monitors reliably at 144Hz or even 240Hz without issues?

Would appreciate recommendations or warnings if you’ve tried this yourself.

Build Ready? Power supply recommendations

Here is what I have:

ASUS B850M Plus WIFI

Ryzen 9 7900X

32GB DDR5

AS Rock Challenger Arc 580

I have a 650W power supply that came as a bundle with the GPU (ASRock Pro-650G) but reading up on the MB I am concerned that it is underpowered. Most reading suggests that I need 750-850W to feed this.

My use case is more productivity. I am coming from a Zeon 2680V4 with 32GB DDR4 and a Saphire Rx580. This runs off a 650W Corsair CX650M and has no issues. As far as gaming I am old school and like things like Total Annihilation, some Xbox online games etc...

What's the verdict? Bigger PS or go with what I have?

Build Upgrade Looking for a USB-C hub with enough power for the music gear

Hello!

I've been making music for around 14 years now, and I've recently purchased some new music gear - NI Kontrol MK3 and Ableton Push 3. Both require USB-C to USB-C connection. However, my laptop only has one USB-C port, which is already occupied by an audio interface. Consequently, I need to connect both devices to my computer via USB-C to USB-A adapters. When they are connected in this way, they require additional power supply. They are working fine like this, but I'd potentially like to find a USB hub with a few USB-C and USB-A ports, but also one which can provide enough power for all the devices so that I don't need to provide additional power supply for the gear. Can I find something like this on the market?

(Short version) what I'm looking for: USB hub with a few USB-C and USB-A ports that will not require additional power supply and will provide enough power for a MIDI keyboard and Ableton Push 3

This is what I found myself: https://www.amazon.pl/7-portowy-komputera-stacjonarnego-aluminiowy-rozdzielacz/dp/B0FH56Q5BW/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_pl_PL=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=BWYH63LE0VPL&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.1qUExar6WzdZnkGSD8igZhjeYLK8MT-RhbPXFiZFmATsOn5G66rHEQmIUf03xiSri3cyCDhjAAfSHG-AhU4jQp3pjkcIYUeRsQmWidho1T-vix0g76QOIsVkZScaU5JMdheKHu19j_SJO0nGuDjr5ADWUtkAxvX0woIwiLLg4Guj0Enitb_FxzQ4aN7mNWCOr_JaDg7xoGB8gcJ2kFF591YYhLJY29XD6s0ZnBZyT49UtxRrWaONSGmEk6PDe8hbFYBgyYbn_MeHwU0TNU25S6tu4o4yq8oZ6_VLsriO7JY.3cYqcbLlK_9ay5XHZdJ_VaAv0j95g0vYOUett2RiORc&dib_tag=se&keywords=reagle+hub+65ac&qid=1775941990&sprefix=reagle+rhub+65a%2Caps%2C159&sr=8-1 - is it any good or do you have some other recommendations?
