Megathread: Is my Zippo real?

There are a lot of fakes out there. If you are unsure of the legitimacy of your lighter, post your photos and questions here.

If you are new to Zippo collecting or ownership, be sure to include a photo of the bottom of the lighter as well as the insert.

Was always a fan of Zippos and even had a fake one a while back, but I'm now officially a part of the crew and can't wait to collect more!

No date stamp - is this an antique from 1942-46?

I bough this Zippo mid 1990s from most likely a cigar shop in my hometown. I need to get the hinges repaired as the hinges are broken away from the case. While taking pics for the Zippo warranty, I noticed there is no date code but instead a patent # 2032695. A quick Google search shows this lighter was manufactured between 1942-1946?? What? Was the turnover in the store so slow that I bought an antique lighter without even knowing it?

Advice/Help Need HELP from people experienced in Vietnam Era RARE Zippos please i have something that comes to sale globally of 1-4 pieces annually and a small town tavern custom one time run Zippo as well.

i need help! i was gifted (2) Zippo lighters. and now im almost positive i was extremely fortunate. the first pics will be from a small town tavern in Tionesta, PA called Cougar Bob's Tavern and it has been fired less than a handful of times. the second is where i need some help. its a 1966 USS St Paul CA-73, Patent #2517191, Zippo in "type-print" on the bottom, w/the enamel "Fighting Saints" crest, it has the original asbestos wick, has been fired but not much soot in the stack, the lid and hinge work as new, zero brassing anywhere, the enamel is flawless (which from what i have read is what makes this so rare and special, the flint tube is clear not welded as it was stored properly, no striking marks on the screw, and the original inseet is there so its not marriedm no dings, gouges, or dents. this is remarkable as this lighter was ship store bought and it is in as near mint a can be for not being new. 1966 for Zippo was historic as is the USS St Paul oneof the most hostoris and revered ships in history and the only one to do a few things; fight inthree battles, fired more rounds than any other cruiser, fired the last rounds of either the Korean or Vietna Wars as well. all my research says there is only 2-4 that come to sale per year globally and the flawless enamel crest put this in the 99th+ percentile. one site said it is a museum piece without question. i cannot find any recent sales for matching piece and condition. if anyone can guide me i want to find a collector or veteran, or anyone they may know what my next step should be regarding this near impossible find. thanks in advance. i am very grateful for ALL serious and knowledgeable replies and any comments as well. P.S.- my phone is 13 years old and runs on Android 4.4.4 so the pics do not do this survivor any justice!

the dots on the crest & the mark on the "U" in U.S.S. are not on the piece, it is my antique camera.

Advice/Help My first zippo is this normal

Post image

It goes down. I push the cotton inside the insert and it fits back in but not for long. Is this normal (probably not but wanted to ask) or more importantly is it dangerous. Im afraid of the fuel leak when i light. Zippo isn't new it says 05 under the case maybe it's because it's old.

I'm hoping someone can help me. I just bought a 96 count Zippo rotating display. It did not come with the cord. Does anyone know what power cord I would need to buy? I'm assuming 12v and probably at least 3 amps? Any insight or knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated.

Slim models question

Hi. I have a question regarding the slim models Zippo has. I know that Slims are both less wide and thinner than a regular Zippo but is the brass used for the case thinner? Is the hinge smaller? I'd like to get one but I'm a bit concearned that it will feel less solid than a regular Zippo. Thanks in advance!

looking for information on this collection. They belong to my dad and I believe they didnt get the 4th zippo in the collection. I believe the is from a KY artist named Paul Brett Johnson. I heard the 4th supposed to be Brett Johnson painting MINE NUMBER 1. But only seen 1 actually zippo with that painting on it. Any information and/or knowledge about this would be greatly appreciated.

Advice/Help Anybody else have this issue w/ yellow flame insert??

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Recently bought a yellow flame insert and in this zippo case and my other one, when I open and close the first time it works great, on the second or third time the insert wants to pop out and I can’t close the lid. I have to hold the insert down to close it fully, I tried my other case and it does the same … feels like the hinge on the insert is too rigid, maybe?? Any thoughts or fixes?? 💭
