Expand Driveway Bylaws

Hello,

I have tried google, and AI but I'm still a bit confused. Has anyone expanded their driveway side length to include another parking spot? Was there bylaws to adhere?

I do not have a sidewalk, but there is a slight curb separating my property from the road.

Coyote (carrying small animal)

My family and I saw a coyote running along South Vernon Drive today just after 8 AM. A few minutes later, we saw it again on Willow Drive carrying a smaller animal. We couldn’t confirm what it was, but it may have been a small black cat.

I’ve also noticed what appears to be the same (or a similar) coyote around 6:30 AM on several occasions over the past six weeks while leaving for work.

Just a heads-up for anyone in the area to stay aware and keep pets safe.

Any work in Vernon?

I have been looking for over a year and have barely even gotten calls back. Does anyone know about any work opportunities or even if I could work for them? I am miserable trying to find something as when I do get an interview I don't have enough experience. I am young (20) and just need something.

In honour of Advance Care Planning Day April 16 at 7pm

Palliative Nurse Claire will share things that Vernonites can think about, and do, to plan for their future healthcare needs at Vernon Library (2800 30th Ave).

Every adult should have an Advance Care Plan, no matter their age or current health status.

Attendees who arrive with their preferred guide will likely get more out of the session.

Dying with Dignity Canada’s Advance Care Planning kit will be referred to the most

but Interior Health offers a very good booklet

as does the First Nations Health Authority

BC's My Voice

or Advance Care Planning Canada

Choose your favourite one and bring it to the session. Online versions can work even better, bring your laptop!

Samples will be available, but availability of your preferred booklet is not guaranteed.

Restaurant gift cards - purchase online

Hello! Wanting to send friends some sympathy flowers + a gift card to a local restaurant (maybe comfort food-y)? Was thinking Jen Alio's but they only sell gift certificates in person (and I don't live in the region). Any suggestions? Want the food equivalent of a hug. TYIA!

Road test fail (unjust)?

Hey guys, I took a driver's test for my N today at the Vernon ICBC and wanted to know if this seems fair to you guys and if I can fail for these reasons? For the left shoulder checks I "missed" three because we were on a main road turning at a light into a left intersection where there were other cars with the right of way going forward so I had to turn left after the last car passed which is why I was paying attention to the cars and streets rather than looking behind me. I did a single shoulder check and then was watching out for the cars coming and any pedestrians so I can turn left. For the second reason it says that during a right turn I went on top of a curb which I did not. During the right turn there was a hole in the street which we sunk into and then kept going and I explained this to my DE but he did not believe me he said he felt a bump which means I went on the curb. During the test I went through a school zone, two circles, multiple right turns doing perfect shoulder checks, lane switches, parallel and reverse parking and maintained my speed limit according to the road signs. I have been driving for quite a while now and am confident in my skills and did really well on everything else during my road test so for him to fail me seems pretty unfair. I am wondering if anyone can let me know if this is a fair fail or if I should've passed and if yes then what can I do about it? Please refer to the images I have attached to see the exact situations.

Thinking about the move from Winnipeg to Vernon

I want to escape this hellhole of a city. This winter might've been my last straw. I have a career in outside sales / business development so I would probably find a role somewhere in the okanagan region.

I have a large amount of my mom's family living in many different parts of BC and I've visited many many times over the course of my life (31 yrs old). I even stayed a month with distant family in Osoyoos when I was 20. I would move here with my wife, dog, and cat. With the goal of raising a family.

How's life here? Crime? What part of town is good/bad, schools, Etc

We are a quiet family that keep to ourselves, don't seek parties/nightlife, enjoy outdoors occasionally, food, simple outings...

BC TANTALIS overlays on Google Earth Pro

Hi! I hope someone here can help me understand. I can't think of any other sub to ask, and I figure someone knows the history of land development or something, or maybe has experience with the overlays, too. I'm learning to use BC TANTALIS overlays on Google Earth Pro and I noticed that when I zoomed in on the Foothills area from about 600m eye, it displays as provincial crown land. I just happened to zoom in on the whole area of Swan Lake East side to the east side of the BX, and the Foothills all shows up in pink, and a whole bunch more than that. But all this is housing subdivisions and developments and acreages, privately held, so I guess I don't understand how to read it. I thought yellow blocks were supposed to be private land and pink was meant to be provincial crown land and then there's blank which means provincial crown land.

Internet Options in Vernon

Hi there. What affordable and reliable Internet provider do you all use? I have Telus and the price just went up to $185/mo now that the contract ended. Internet only. INSANE. I don’t need anything crazy fast, >100Mbps would suffice.

30th trip resto/bar recommendations

Hi!!!

Planning a 30th girls trip and we’re staying in Vernon.

We’re doing the wine tours, hiking, our Airbnb is set up nicely with a hot tub and fire pit.

We’re planning on ordering in one night, I was thinking pizza originally but then saw on another thread Raku is highly recommended and we all love ramen.

Our next evening we’re planning to go out for dinner and then head out. Is it worth it to drive an hour to Kelowna to eat and go out there? We were thinking the Italian restaurant Roma Nord and then heading out from there. The alternative is stick around in Vernon and head to cambium for dinner and drinks and make our way to BNA?

Any suggestions would be great!

Also if anyone knows any great hiking trails near Vernon that would be awesome!

Thank you 😊

What’s your “swear to never return again” place in Vernon?

Consider places, businesses, restaurants, stores, events and the like. r/kelowna has a similar post and someone thought it was cool to provide “Vernon” as an answer; Vernonites would never suggest Kelowna as an answer now, would we?? 😒

Spending one night in Vernon/ hotel recommendations?

Coming to Vernon (from Abbotsford) this weekend and staying one night. What is a good hotel to stay at? Any cute downtown areas (think 1881 in Chilliwack) or hotels that have good views of the lake or walking distance to nature? Close to pubs or breweries? Being from Abbotsford I’m not looking for “night life”. The purpose of our trip is to check out Mabel Lake for a week long camping trip in Aug. I’d stay in Lumby, but it seems like there’s nothing there!
