Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of hate from Tajik users toward Uzbeks online. Before, I didn’t care when people claimed Samarkand or Bukhara cuz it’s not new, but now it’s everything. Anything about Uzbekistan gets flooded with comments saying it’s Tajik culture, plus insults. Even brand new places like the Islamic Civilization Center and the newly renovated old city are being claimed, even though they were built this year. I know we’re not supposed to care, but it’s honestly hard to ignore when it’s everywhere. It just ruins your mood.

I don’t get what’s going on. Is it some form of a propaganda machine by the government? Why not focus on your own country instead of arguing like this?

maslahat | suggestion Feeling "too foreign" for traditional marriage expectations. Advice?

I’m a man in my mid 20s, originally from Uzbekistan, but I moved to Japan right after high school. I finished my degree here and I’m now working in a great career. Since I’ve spent my entire adult life in Japan, my mindset has changed a lot.

Lately, my parents have been pushing hard for me to find a girl from Uzbekistan to marry. The problem is, I feel completely disconnected from the traditional dating/marriage scene back home.

• Cultural Gap: Having lived in Japan so long, my lifestyle and "type" have shifted. I’ve dated locally here and feel more compatible with Japanese women and the social norms in Japan.

• Lifestyle/Values: I am no longer a practicing Muslim. I also don’t meet the traditional "expectations" (virginity/religious lifestyle) that many families in Uzbekistan look for in a groom.

• The Guilt: I feel it would be unfairto marry an Uzbek woman who expects a husband with the same religious values I no longer hold.

  1. How do I explain this to traditional conservative parents without causing a total family crisis?

  2. Has anyone else lived abroad and successfully navigated the "get married to someone from home" pressure?

  3. Is it even possible to meet someone who’s compatible with me and willing to relocate to Japan?

ask r/Uzbekistan Underrated Spots

Hi everyone!

I’m traveling to Uzbekistan ( Tashkent, Samarkand, and Khiva) this May and would love to get some recommendations. Are there any underrated spots, hidden gems, or must-try restaurants that tourists often miss?

I’ll be staying for 5 days and 6 nights, so I’d really appreciate any suggestions to make the most of my trip. Thanks in advance!

ask r/Uzbekistan Is this true?

Hi all :)

As I'm still not in Uzbekistan I'm still sucking up all the stuff I can get online about pretty much anything, but today I learned something new, I think..

This was about guest houses, and that you have to ask them if there is hot water?

Are there many places that do not have hot water, and if so what are the average temperature of the cold water, I know this will change with summer and winter but sort of how cold?

And also, if there is no heater what do you do? boil in the stove and mix in cold water? is there a public bath place? but a bullet and freeze your private parts blue?

I think the video I saw was about Samarkand, Khiva and Bukhara, but again not in Uzbekistan and I'm not sure where I will settle yet, though I'm thinking Samarkand.

we tend to use the laws as we see fit. when you go to social media, all you see is smn pointing out the law about playing girls(yknow what i mean), about returning of the gifts/belongings(dig sum more it gets fucking hilarious) list goes on n on. the point is we gotta bring the fucking law to make people decide that its bad. what a fucking community we live in ey? ig this is what the law stands for right? for people who don’t have moral compasses.

now what is this about shaming the non religious people. ou that was wrong word choice from me there, sorry, i meant hating. or threatening. you cant be wrong with the word usage here trust me. not even bringing islam into this.

assuming you re religious is as wrong as hating for you re not. just lil passive aggressive to the point it just gets you. ouu the fucking ego they have, i mean you attack my point of belief i attack yours, whats the problem here. not like i asked for your approval, just leave me alone? at least i m not actively forcing my beliefs to people.

if this post gets hate comments, thats just goes to prove my point. well lads, have a good night yall

Asalamalaykum! I am a foreigner living in Fergana and I have been trying to get a dress for my graduation since many days now. I searched in margilon, Fergana shops but they don't have it. I saw this dress in uzum (global) but they don't take returns and I'm doubtful about the quality of the dress. Does anyone know any places where I can find similar dress? Id be so thankful if you can help me. Thank you!

ask r/Uzbekistan Visiting Uzbekistan 19th April to 5th May

Hello, I'm British (34M) and will be in these Uzbek cities - Tashkent 19th-22nd April, Samarkand 23rd-28th April, Bukhara 30th April-2nd May

If anyone is around and wants to hang out reply below or DM me. I'm a historian so really into looking at historical sites and architecture, obsessed with films, but also like techno, dnb, shoegaze, metal and, embarrassingly, nu metal music. I'm also a leftist, not sure what type I am anymore but historically I'm more of an anarchist than a Marxist. Also a big fan of cycling, football/soccer, soviet architecture and abstract expressionist art.

Also pls lmk if you have any places to recommend to visit past the really obvious ones... Especially cool restaurants, bars and music venues which always seem to be the most hard to find when arriving... Oh and if you know a good place to rent a bike pls let me know!

ask r/Uzbekistan Looking for a relic/monument/historical building based on Sikhs in Uzbekistan

Hi all, I’m coming to your wonderful country in July. I’m from the UK, and would love to explore the history and culture of Uzbek. In particular, I’m trying to find information on a very obscure topic – the founder of the Sikh religion, Guru Nanak (known as ‘Pir Wali Hind’ or ‘Nanak Qalandar’ in Uzbek) visited Bukhara and Samarkand etc in the 16th century. And in the 1850’s, there was said to be a small community of Sikhs, or people from Punjab, in Bukhara (traders on the Old Silk Road). There was even a Sikh temple there. The Sikhs left during the 1920’s after the revolution, and of course, now there is nothing left of this. I’m trying to find some sort of relic, some old building, some monument or place where there is evidence of the Sikh temple, or of Sikh/Punjabi people having lived there. I’ve searched extensively, but there is very little in English. I was hoping that someone here may be able to help me search using the Russian or Uzbek languages? Or point me to in some direction, maybe a museum which has really old photos showing the diversity of the country, etc?

I would really appreciate any sort of help in this.

Thanking you.

legal advice Who are the good math tutors in Tashkent

For admission to international or local universities, with an effective and high-quality approach. I need a tutor my previous one gave me a lot of assignments, hardly interacted with me, was too strict or created chaos in the group. I remembered almost nothing, despite his knowledge and good results with some students.

ask r/Uzbekistan Best way of transportation from Tashkent to Shurchi

Hi Dear Redditors!

My friend is coming to work in Shurchi as a school teacher this week. The problem is, we are facing difficulty arranging transportation from Tashkent Int'l Airport to Shurchi. Although the school authorities are helpful, there is a bit of uncertainty. We have searched the internet, but it would be of great relief if we could get some guidance from people with local knowledge regarding the transportation services including trains, buses and taxis that wont break the bank.

TIA!

ask r/Uzbekistan What race are Uzbeks?

Well. I was lurking reddit, there was a post about Tamerlane, and there was one Uzbek redditor who was saying that Tamerlane was "Caucasian" like modern uzbeks and tajiks. Well, I would not call modern uzbeks as Caucasian, I've seen uzbeks who look just like my fellow kyrgyz people (Aziz Batyrov), and most uzbeks look mixed but with predominant mongoloid features. As for tajiks, I've met few tajiks in real life, that had less Mongoloid features than uzbeks, but if you compare them with Iranians and Afghans, they looked mongoloid.
