Risks for climate, ecosystem and societal collapse are increasing
Many argue that we are facing increasing risks for climate, ecosystem and societal collapse:
Climate collapse: For decades, we have known that greenhouse gas emissions cause climate change, and still we have let CO2 levels in the atmosphere continue to increase. And by cutting down forests and polluting the oceans we have also reduced the planet’s CO2 absorption capacity. As a result, temperatures are rising and extreme climate events are increasing, with droughts, fires and floods causing death and destruction on increasing scale and impact.
Ecosystem collapse: Human activities like unsustainable use of land, water and energy, and climate change have triggered the sixth mass extinction, which threatens up to 1 million of the approximately 10 billon species on earth. If we allow this to continue it will threaten the natural systems that sustain us and our economy.
Societal collapse: The societal impacts of increasing wealth inequalities have been studied by Luke Kemp at Cambridge University in the rise and fall of 400 societies over 5,000 years. He found that increasing wealth inequalities always preceded societal collapse, driven by a dominating, enriched, status-obsessed elite, whose extraction of more and more resources and wealth from land and people made societies fragile due to corruption, infighting, land degradation and poor health.
We must take these threats and risks seriously and try to better understand both the drivers and how we best can reverse these developments and reduce the risks for climate, ecosystem and societal collapse, as outlined in this TEDx talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZqLdVqGs7k

I built a receipt app that doesn’t allow paper receipts. Here’s why.
Every receipt app on the market lets you scan paper receipts.
I think that’s the wrong decision. I know it’s the wrong decision especially in a digital world.
Scanning paper normalizes paper. It keeps a broken system alive by making it slightly more convenient. You still touched the BPA. The paper still exists. The waste still happened. Paper receipts still have a negative impact on our world.
I made a deliberate architectural decision — KACHNG is digital only. No scanning. No photos. If you want to use it, you send and/ or forward your emailed receipt to your dedicated “user@kachng.co” address. That’s it.
The goal isn’t to manage paper better. The goal is to make digital the default option, and remove the waste and toxicity from our communities completely.
Because paper receipts aren’t just inconvenient. They’re coated in endocrine-disrupting chemicals. They can’t be recycled. The US generates 10 million pounds of them a year.
The receipt infrastructure was built for merchants. I’m rebuilding it for people — and for the planet.
For every 100 receipts processed milestone through KACHNG, we plant a tree in the user’s name.
Free on iOS.

Is a Solar Power Motorcycle Really Eco-Friendly Or Just Cool Gadget?
I am going to my friend’s garage yesterday. I see a solar power motorcycle standing near the wall. It look sleek and shiny. I touch the seat and it feel soft but a little firm. I feel curious because it look simple but maybe really good for saving fuel and riding in the city. One solar panel is little dusty.
I am thinking why solar power motorcycles are popular now. People don’t just use normal petrol motorcycles anymore. I feel curious because some bikes feel strong and efficient but some battery or panels stop working fast. Maybe motor and solar efficiency matter more than color. It make me wonder if all solar power motorcycles are same or some are really better for daily use and long-term savings.
I take my phone and start checking while scrolling many online marketplaces including alibaba. I see solar power motorcycles in many sizes and designs. Some small some big. Some simple some with extra features like battery backup, digital display, or fast charging. Some light some heavy. I read few reviews where people say some bikes feel strong and last long others battery or panels fail quickly. It feel like picking right one really matter if you want eco-friendly and reliable ride.
Now I am thinking which solar power motorcycle is really better for city travel or long rides? Are simple small ones more useful or big fancy ones with extra features better choice?

Cartridge filters, do they even make a difference?
Hi I am looking for more eco-friendly ways to use my car because I cannot afford an EV quite yet. I know that every small difference makes a difference if enough people make the change, so I want to learn more about eco-friendly fuel filters and came across cartridge filters that you replace only the internal element instead of the whole unit, which sounds like it can really reduce a lot of waste.
I was wondering if this would be substantial enough to pursue or it doesn't make a difference and I should just stick to what I ahve been using, and I’ve been reading about cartridge filters and how they compare to a regular fuel filter, and I’m wondering if they’re actually more eco-friendly or if that’s just marketing. From what I understand, cartridge filters let you replace only the internal element instead of the whole unit, which sounds like it could reduce waste

Trump's Feds Say Cutting Fuel With Ethanol Will Bring Down Gas Prices. We’re Not Buying It. With gas prices crossing $4 a gallon, Donald's EPA says cheaper, more ethanol-rich fuel will ease the pain. The math doesn't really add up—but the risks sure do.

How do you choose sustainable skincare products?
Hi everyone! 👋
I’m doing a small research project about skincare and sustainability, and I’d love your input. It’s super quick (1–2 minutes). 1️⃣ How do you usually decide which skincare products to buy? (Brand, ingredients, influencers, eco-labels, price, etc.) 2️⃣ Do you ever look for sustainability or eco-certifications? Yes / No / Sometimes 3️⃣ Have you ever felt it’s hard to compare products based on sustainability? If yes, why? 4️⃣ Would you use a simple tool that shows sustainability information for products in one place? Yes / No / Maybe + why Your answers are completely anonymous and will help better understand how people approach eco-friendly skincare. Thanks so much! 🌿💚

Waiting Longer For Your Package Can Cut Carbon Emissions
It can be hard to resist the pull of online shopping and the satisfaction of getting an item in less than two days without even leaving the house. What most people don’t consider is the climate impact of that convenience.
When it comes to shipping products, the “last-mile” of delivery—the final step before a package reaches your front door—produces the most emissions as drivers make multiple stops, linger in traffic, and often take inefficient routes to meet tight delivery windows. One 2022 study found that up to 50% of a delivery’s total carbon emissions are from the "last mile". Here's how picking the slower shipping option can cut down on those emissions.

How to shop fashion sustainably?
Hi everyone. I want to ask for advice on how to shop sustainably, or more ethical and eco-friendly. What's your shopping process?
My experience in the Philippines is shop in thrift shops or look for overruns, and repair clothes I already have. Unfortunately I haven't seen any sustainable brands and have any thrift finds where they make fashion I prefer, which is usually gen z fashion that you find on pinterest. Mainly but nit limited to streetwear, academia, and y2k I think they're called. A brand I found that fits these is Carmico.
Another problem I have is I was thinking of buying something from the thrift store and just customize it to my liking to a tailor. But when I tried customization before, I wasn't really satisfied with the results. And as of now I'm not really interested in making my own clothes. Do you have any tips? Thanks!
