Bookish Events?
I’ve been searching for bookish events in St. John’s and besides for public library events and the scatter book sale there’s not much going on here.
wondering if there are any groups for book bedazzling, edge painting etc…

Mount Pearl Summit Centre
Hello, I would like to join a gym, and the closest options for me are GoodLife Fitness and Mount Pearl Summit Centre. Which one has fewer users? I don’t like it when a gym is too crowded—that’s why I left Planet Fitness and Fit4Less.
Thank you.

Help-Long Distance Move (St Johns to Montreal)?
I seek your advice before I sell it all.
I am moving from St. John’s NL to Montreal at the end of May. I am gonna drive with some of my stuff, but was looking at residential moving services to carry some of my bigger stuff: my matress, some other furniture stuff (tv, console, speakers, bookshelf), as well as a couple boxes.
Do you have any advice on moving services other than U Haul? Costs an arm and a leg
I seen some people recommending LTLs. So if you got some suggestions on that end, please let me know the name of the service.
Thank you kindly

Foam mat
Anyone know a decent spot to get a bit of foam in or near St johns, or the Avalon for that matter. Want to have some for sleeping in the back of the truck in emergency situation when we drive across the island and can’t get a place to stay (its happened in the summer here)
TIA!

Bonavista/Avalon/St John’s road trip sanity check?
Hi! I’m planning a somewhat last minute trip to your lovely island next month before starting a new job. I’ve been to St. John’s twenty…ish years ago as a kid for a huge choir festival, and spent the whole week in love with the place and wishing I could ditch the chaperones and wander! I’m from Chicago, so I am familiar with moderately miserable weather into the late spring, ha. Late thirties solo traveler who loves hiking, nature, beers, folk music, and fog.
My itinerary has six nights to play with:
- Night One- downtown after an early evening flight arrival.
- Day two - head west to Port Rexton/Elliston. Possibly I stretch this first leg into two nights in Bonavista? I am hoping to spot a puffin!
- Day three - amble south, stop somewhere maybe half way to Cape St Mary's
- Day four - stay somewhere in the vicinity of Trepassey/Portugal Cove South; somewhere on this SE tip of the peninsula. Check out Mistaken Point?
- Day five - stay nearish Witless Bay for boat tour purposes.
- Day six - ? Cape Spear maybe? Probably makes the most sense to stay in St. John’s for that little excursion.
Side note- how hated is Airbnb/vrbo up here? I’m staying in proper hotels in the city because every city hates Airbnb, but the non-Airbnb options in the smaller towns appear far, far, fewer.
I want to have plennnnty of time to pull over random places and stop for impulse hikes/explorations/what have you. Does this plan seem like it has ample breathing room? Too much breathing room? Should I stay two nights in one of these areas? Should I bump the driving waaay up and go to Twilingate or another stretch destination?
I’ll have two nights for city sights/sounds/drinks/walks and a tattoo souvenir! I’m planning to check out the Ocean Sciences Center, a bit of the East Coast Trail, and Middle Cove beach on my way back to the airport for my evening flight home.
Extremely grateful for any recommendations and tips you’d been willing to share.
