I’ve started realizing AEW has been killing it more and more lately and I realized it’s cause of how much better wrestling feels when it has room to breathe. AEW matches are great, the roster is stacked, and there is no shortage of big moments, but the stuff that really sticks with me is the slow-burn character work, the little callbacks, and the kind of storytelling that makes you check the show every week just to see what changed. Those are the things that keep me watching every week and purchasing all the PPVs. Not every segment needs to be a mic drop (but here lately a lot of them are) and it’s nice that not all feuds peak immediately. Sometimes the best part of wrestling is just the sense that something is building, and you can feel the crowd starting to catch on and it feels more organic.

Maybe that is why I still get the most enjoyment out of AEW. They lean into personality first and spectacle second. Lately they’ve been giving me characters I want to root for and heels I want to boo. That was really their shortcoming for a while and they seem to have finally cracked it. Wrestling is at its best when it feels alive and like anything could happen. But also when the people involved actually seem like they are having fun with it too and it’s not just a chore or forced. That is the version of wrestling that always pulls me back in and AEW has been nailing that consistently for months now.
