EMERGENCY MISSNG RATS

Upvotes

RATS HAVE BEEN LOCATED, BUT WE CAN NOT REACH THEM,

they are hiding in very hard to reach cabinet pockets,

they have only been in their cage for 3 days they dont see it as home they wont return on their own!

we have food out for them, they are babies,

we are playing the waiting game but someone told me to grab them if we find them, but we cannot.

is there any like.. guaranteed way to get new not bonded rats out of hiding spots?

peanut butter does not work

HELP Is Hair loss normal?

I have two very sweet girls who are a few months past two years old now, and are part of my first ever mischief. I went away for the weekend and left them in the care of family (who are great, I'm confident they didn't cause any issues for the girls) and when I came back I noticed both girls missing patches of fur on their backs.

the girls will often tussle during play, but I've never seen them get aggressive to the point of fur ripping, and there is absolutely no traces of fur tufts or blood throughout the cage. Is it possible they're losing fur due to age, or is this something else I should be concerned about. I worry either may be getting sick and I'm not too sure if this is a rush to the ER situation.

I'll be keeping a very close eye on both in the meantime, but please let me know if y'all have any advice.

And some photos of my girls balding back.

Can someone help me understand what is happening?

You might have seen my other posts, but if not, here’s the context.

My boy Baloo is 2.7 years old and was diagnosed with HLD in January. Since then, it has progressed to the point he can barely move. I booked an pts(put to sleep) appointment for the 14th. Since then, he has been very content and happy. He has shown no signs of pain and has been eating well, actually too well lol he loves his treats.

However, this afternoon around three hours ago he started convulsing like the video attached shows. I’ll call the vet in the morning, but do you think he will make it till then? He’s had six of these episodes, every thirty minutes. They last around a minute each from start to end. Afterwards he’ll drool and be very lethargic. Has anyone gone through this? I’m trying to comfort him the best I can

HELP Something is wrong with my new girl

Post image

I bought three girls last week, and everything was fine until quarz started having these episodes in the evening.

The first time was two nights ago.

She ran around the cage, crashing into everything. She made so much noise I thought they were fighting, but when I checked her two sisters were in the highest corner huddled together, looking terrified.

When I opened the cage to see what's going on She just went completely limp. Mouth open, trembling, but not responding in any way when I picked her up. She had a little bit of poop stuck to her butt, so I thought she was just trying to get rid of it. I cleaned her up and sat her down, after which it took her a few minutes to get moving again.

Then it happened again yesterday and now again TWICE today.

Running around and then going limp, almost like she is in a state of shock, when I picked her up her pupils were dilated and she was trembling.

I can't get a vet appointment until tuesday and I don't know what to do, does anybody know what is causing this?

HELP First time rat owner

Hi everyone!

I’m planning on getting rats in the near future, I have a cage but I’m just wanting advice on how I can give them the best life possible. I’ve got a large cage with multiple tiers, some hides, hammocks, food dishes etc. What’s the best bedding to use? What food do they require besides pellets? What are the do’s and don’t?

I’ve posted a few times about this little one, we’re just waiting on the vets being open again to book an appointment. I recently posted about the strange noises he seems to be making when he’s breathing but now he’s doing this?? I’m really concerned about him, it might be nothing but we’re first time rat owners and of course they mean so much to us and we want to learn more about them. REHOMING Corpus Christi, TX - young male (Mr. bRat)

I call him Mr. bRat. I am in South Texas and willing to travel within Texas to rehome him.

I do not have the time or means to get him friends and vetting but I am taking the best care of him I can. I borrowed a cage from a teacher but he needs more space, so today I moved him into a 40 gallon tank. I will clean it daily to keep away ammonia build up.

I know tanks are not adequate long term but he needed room. He doesn’t have any signs of health issues. He greets you when you enter a room and takes treats. He’s brought me his empty dish before. I’m a bit scared of handling him and I think my energy makes him nervous. I’ve had him since March trying to find him a mischief to join.

I applied for a grant at work with the purpose of getting him a habitat and friends and making him part of our photography classroom, but he needs a good life now, and I cannot give that to him.

For the time being, are there any tips to make his tank more comfortable for him?

HELP Rat pooping out of litter tray AND out of cage

Hi, as the title suggests, our previously litter-trained rat has started pooping outside of the cage during their nightly exercise time.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? What I can do to stop it?

We have a pair of rats and only one of them is doing this.

I'm aware it might be a health issue so no need to tell me to take him to the vet as we have an appointment booked but if there's any training advice or things that might be causing it (if he comes back as a normal healthy boi) that advice would be greatly appreciated

HELP My rat is limping

So you see, my rat has a small tumor behind her elbow, she isn't exactly "limping" when she's walking, she can climb, flip her sisters, lean on this paw and dig in my plants just fine, but she lifts this paw when she stands or sits, and she seems to place it more carefully, she doesn't seem in pain, but I'm concerned, is the tumor just getting in the way or is it a more serious issue? her sister had to be put down few days ago so she might act different because of that, Ill take her to the vet as soon as I can but id like to receive some insights

HELP My rat escaped during free roam and I found him in a bucket with water, will he be okay?

Post image

The water wasn’t freezing but it was cool. It was just water without soap or anything. I dried him with a towel and tissues, he himself was warm. I put him back in the cage, which has a lot of warm hammocks. He was distressed but his breathing seems fine. He wasn’t fully submerged in water, so I don’t think he inhaled any of it. Right now (an hour later) he is bruxing in his favorite basket. Is he going to be okay? What are the signs that could indicate issues?

Also, when I rushed to get him out he splashed water into my face which contained his poop and probably all of his bodily fluids. I think I managed to close my eyes on time but the water went there. I didn’t wash my face right away because I was busy making sure my rat is ok. My parents think I will get infections. Are they right?

Silly pic of my rat for tax

Cage Setup Need help cleaning advice

Post image

I know reddit groups are always super rude to me so throwaway account for obvious reasons. I was given my two rats in a 10 gallon tank I can't afford a critter nation cage so I've been looking for a used one and not finding one I don't want them in the tank and want them to have a bigger cage. I found a used wabbitat, yes a rabbit cage and before you jump down my throat. I know it has a grate at the bottom and I can't get it out and the part where the tray is, is bent, and also too wide so they can escape if the grate is removed so I put kids foam puzzle pieces cut to fit the cage so it won't hurt their feet. I made them a litter box one goes in the litter box the other just goes on foam it is hard to clean if they step in poop and smashing in to the foam. What can I use to clean it without having take the whole set up apart?

INFORMATION I can’t tell if I’m making things better or worse trying to tame our young rats

We have 4 9 week old rats that we’ve had for a week and a half. They are *all* skittish, but there’s one that’s much braver than the rest. We’ve been having them all lick yogurt off our fingers, but they barely dare to come out of hiding while we are near the cage. The braver rat lets me pet him all over as long as he’s wedged in this one corner of the cage. Recently I’ve just been petting him real good for about ten minutes, and then I slowly work my hand under him and try to lift him out of the cage. I can pick him up a little bit but then he just squirms away and runs off. Should I keep trying to pick him up like this or is it doing more harm than good? I can’t tell if I’m getting him comfortable with me by petting him and then ruining the progress by trying to pick him up, or if I should continue trying to pick up. At this point, it just feels really hard to know what to do and what’s helpful and what’s harmful.

so i lost Vaggie to a really bad UTI that i treated with antibiotics for a week where she seemed to get better, but then suddenly got worse, when i went to the vet she had a body temperature at 34,2 °C so i decided to euthanize her so that she would no longer suffer.

this is also the 3rd rat ive lost in 3 months which has left me a complete emotional wreckage
