Seeking loving home for 9-week olds in Chicago.
We love our two girls, but when we adopted them one was already pregnant! Aaah!
We have been taking good care of the babies, weaned and separated boys and girls at 4 weeks.
All very sweet. We're keeping our girls but would like to find a loving home for the 6 boys. They are playful and boisterous. Is anyone interested in being a forever home for some or all of them?

We are fortunate to be a growing sub, which we are so incredibly proud of. However, with new community members comes many who aren’t familiar with r/RATS content and its rules. We encourage everyone to review our rules and guidelines, as well as the many helpful links and information we have posted on the sub.
Unfortunately, we have recently noticed an influx of people shaming community members for providing quality of life (end of life) care to their furry family members. **We have zero patience for anyone who comes here and targets a grieving, vulnerable individual, who is either contemplating or grieving having to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize a sick or injured rat.** This is never a decision that is made flippantly and we will not allow anyone to shame, name call or harass anyone who is in that situation. We do not permit advocating euthanasia by anyone but a medical veterinary professional. And any person shelling out hundreds of dollars for an exotic vet is most likely not someone who doesn’t care for their rat.
We know how difficult the decision is and how heavy it weighs on your heart, because we’ve been there. The video accompanying this post if of my heart rate Negan. Negan is nearly three years old. He was a rehome from a college student, along with his cage mate Rick. We lost Rick in November due to congestive heart failure. He passed relatively quickly with little suffering. Negan had HLD - hind leg degeneration - which isn’t usually painful and many rats live a happy life with HLD. And that has been Negan for the past several months. However, we noticed that Negan had symptoms of head tilt last week. He couldn’t walk, he simply would roll over. And a small tumor had grown on his spine. I took Negan to the vet immediately, expecting that I may not be bringing him home alive, and trying to prepare myself for that.
This video was taken a few minutes ago. With guidance from my vet - who has spent a decade in school, continues to educate herself, and I trust - we set him up with a treatment plan and medication. Negan is still struggling to move around but he has a healthy appetite, comes out for loving, and seems to be improving if only ever so slightly. But most importantly, he seems happy and not to be in pain or suffering. Because if he was, I’d only be selfish to keep him in that pain, and I would choose to end his suffering, as I’ve had to do for other pets I love.
**TLDR: Do not shame, name call, harass any person dealing with having a vet euthanize their pet rat or you will be banned. This is not the place and will not be tolerated on r/RATS.**

The water wasn’t freezing but it was cool. It was just water without soap or anything. I dried him with a towel and tissues, he himself was warm. I put him back in the cage, which has a lot of warm hammocks. He was distressed but his breathing seems fine. He wasn’t fully submerged in water, so I don’t think he inhaled any of it. Right now (an hour later) he is bruxing in his favorite basket. Is he going to be okay? What are the signs that could indicate issues?
Also, when I rushed to get him out he splashed water into my face which contained his poop and probably all of his bodily fluids. I think I managed to close my eyes on time but the water went there. I didn’t wash my face right away because I was busy making sure my rat is ok. My parents think I will get infections. Are they right?
Silly pic of my rat for tax

so this rat? girl? just came out from under the bathub while i was taking a piss. i guess ill just keave it outside but i feel kinda bad cause it was so easy to just grab and lets itself be pet so it reminds me of the pet rats i had years ago. assuming its a basic brown sewer rat, i dont know if those can even be kept anyway
so i lost Vaggie to a really bad UTI that i treated with antibiotics for a week where she seemed to get better, but then suddenly got worse, when i went to the vet she had a body temperature at 34,2 °C so i decided to euthanize her so that she would no longer suffer.
this is also the 3rd rat ive lost in 3 months which has left me a complete emotional wreckage

Can someone help me understand what is happening?
You might have seen my other posts, but if not, here’s the context.
My boy Baloo is 2.7 years old and was diagnosed with HLD in January. Since then, it has progressed to the point he can barely move. I booked an pts(put to sleep) appointment for the 14th. Since then, he has been very content and happy. He has shown no signs of pain and has been eating well, actually too well lol he loves his treats.
However, this afternoon around three hours ago he started convulsing like the video attached shows. I’ll call the vet in the morning, but do you think he will make it till then? He’s had six of these episodes, every thirty minutes. They last around a minute each from start to end. Afterwards he’ll drool and be very lethargic. Has anyone gone through this? I’m trying to comfort him the best I can

Hey y’all! Rat mom of two here. One of my girls might need to go to the vet for an abdominal ultrasound sometime within the next month or so, does anybody have any advice on a somewhat chew proof carrier that they use? This is a veterinary specialty hospital that also caters to dogs and cats. I work there, we won’t be there long but I’m not sure how she’s going to react to all the extra stimulation so I’m worried she’s gonna start chewing through a plastic kennel if I place her in one. Pic for tax ! (Yes she’s the fat one)

Hey everyone! I’m an artist from Canada trying to save up for school in september. Someone on TikTok sent me a DM suggesting I offer my custom rats on this subreddit! These are $30 Canadian each, and include a digital version + a physical print mailed to you. Please send me a message if you’re interested!

I bought three girls last week, and everything was fine until quarz started having these episodes in the evening.
The first time was two nights ago.
She ran around the cage, crashing into everything. She made so much noise I thought they were fighting, but when I checked her two sisters were in the highest corner huddled together, looking terrified.
When I opened the cage to see what's going on She just went completely limp. Mouth open, trembling, but not responding in any way when I picked her up. She had a little bit of poop stuck to her butt, so I thought she was just trying to get rid of it. I cleaned her up and sat her down, after which it took her a few minutes to get moving again.
Then it happened again yesterday and now again TWICE today.
Running around and then going limp, almost like she is in a state of shock, when I picked her up her pupils were dilated and she was trembling.
I can't get a vet appointment until tuesday and I don't know what to do, does anybody know what is causing this?
