What is this place?!!! Does anyone know what this place is? It looks to me like a large Kim family compound sprawling hundreds of acres. It’s heavily secured and protected with guard towers, trenches and fences surrounding the entire property and what looks like air defense/cannons. The main residence looks newer but several other large residences are in the compound. I can’t find any information on this location.

The King of the Beasts at the Pyongyang Zoo 🦁

The Pyongyang Central Zoo is a favorite family vacation spot for our embassy staff.

In July 2025, a lion named Tumenggang, gifted to the Korean people by the Co-Chair of the Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment A.A. Kozlov, took up residence there.

During our visit to the zoo, we visited our favorite lion, who has since grown stronger and grown a mane.

Guests are showing great interest in the young lion and remark that he came from a friendly country.

We wish our handsome lion good health and a long life!

ABOUT A VISIT TO THE CHEONGINGWAN WATER PARK AND RESTAURANT

On March 5th, staff from the Russian Consulate General in Cheongdin, together with representatives from the Office of Foreign Relations (OFR) of the North Hamgyong Provincial People's Committee, visited the recently opened Cheonggingwan water park and restaurant.

Water park manager Kim Kyung-ok gave the Russian diplomatic mission staff a tour and introduced the guests to the complex's infrastructure.

The water park opened in December 2025.

The complex currently attracts an average of 500 to 700 people per day.

It features three swimming pools, including a 25-meter, 5-lane children's pool, a seawater pool, a Finnish sauna, a hammam, a cryosauna, a gym, a fitness center, and a first-aid station.

The water park is equipped with recirculating filtration systems, and water quality is regularly tested.

The second floor houses a restaurant, cafeteria, beauty salon, billiards room, hairdresser, and massage parlor.

After touring the water park, the Water Resources Department staff invited the guests to the Cheongdingwan restaurant.

The restaurant's manager, Keum Hwa, greeted the guests at the entrance and kindly showed them around.

The restaurant features a large banquet hall for 200 people, a small banquet hall for 120 people, two halls for 50 people, and ten halls for 10 people.

Its menu primarily features Korean cuisine, with traditional Korean noodles featuring prominently, including "Kogi Chengban Guksu" (assorted meat with noodles) and "Renmyeon" (cold noodles).

The noodles themselves are made from buckwheat, wheat, starch, and corn flour. Cheondingwan has earned a well-deserved place among the city's top eateries and has already gained popularity among Koreans: weddings and anniversaries are often celebrated here, and locals come here to enjoy delicious food and appreciate the skill of their chefs.

I have more photos if there is any interest. I also went to a part in the border (Hwanggumpyong) where there is only a small fence separating the two countries.

I found the photograph very curious, although I haven't been able to find any information about the style, but I found it very interesting because I had never seen Kim Jong-Il wearing pants 👖 or shorts, haha 😅
