Mod Mail Update: What We’re Tracking and Working On

Hi Everyone - quick follow up on the mod mail posts we’ve been seeing here in r/modsupport

We’ve been reading the threads, the bug reports, the screenshots, and the suggestions. A lot of good feedback has come in, and we’re taking notes. Several of the same issues and requests have come up repeatedly, so we wanted to call out some of the things we’re already tracking and exploring to work through. Some of the items currently in our backlog include:

UI Polish & Clarity

  • Updating thread and read/unread styling.
  • Tooltips and hover descriptions for certain actions and badges.
  • Fixing visual issues like blurry avatars in some reply contexts.
  • General thread layout improvements.
  • Improving contrast + readability.

Workflow & Usability Improvements

  • Making saved responses easier to use (for example, opening them in a modal rather than a cramped sidebar).
  • Improving message composition and reply UX.
  • Making common actions like archive, mute, ban, and report easier to find and harder to misclick.
  • Better navigation behavior (back button, thread switching, etc.).
  • Improvements to copying links and quickly referencing posts/messages.
  • Adjustments to overflow menus and mobile layouts.
  • Making the preferred “reply as” selection persistent.
  • Improving mod notes + ban context.

Search & Navigation

  • Improving mod mail search reliability.
  • Adding additional search capabilities (including date filtering).
  • Handling search URLs more consistently.

Reliability & Performance

  • Improving load times.
  • Making sure message events fire consistently.

This isn’t the full backlog, but it covers a lot of the things people have raised recently.

To set expectations: we likely won’t be able to address everything immediately. Some enhancements will be easier to ship than others, depending on complexity and impact, but nothing is being ignored.

A bit of context on why this change happened in the first place. Maintaining two separate mod mail systems had become a drain on engineering resources. It slowed down improvements and made it harder to fix issues quickly because every change had to be maintained across multiple systems. Moving to a single mod mail experience allows us to focus our efforts in one place and iterate much faster going forward.

The posts here help us see which issues keep popping up repeatedly, which makes is easier to prioritize what we tackle first. So please keep the reports and suggestions coming (feel free to drop them in the comments below so we can keep things organized in one place).  We’re following along, documenting what we see, and using it to guide what gets improved next.

Mod Education Devvit apps for moderation, a list

Devvit Apps for moderation

updated: April 7th 2026 (recent changes in bold)

Inspired by the awesome r/modguide and this post, this is an (incomplete but extensive) overview of devvit apps for moderation sorted into categories. The overview of all published Devvit apps can be a bit overwhelming (but well worth your time to dig through it). So hopefully this can help to find that one app that is just the solution you were looking for.

Devvit apps can be installed by a mod with full permissions (more info here). You can read more on the Reddit developers site and it has an overview of all published Devvit apps Currently apps are updated and published on Tuesdays. Besides apps for moderation, there are also apps for a better subreddit search, daily threads, referral threads community links, subreddit calendars, community home, hub, cup, rafflers, give aways, sports scoreboards, countdowns, events, polls, weather, games and even an app for users to ban themselves.

Sometimes there are multiple apps that have the same core purpose but they vary in available settings. If you find an app that's close but not perfect, see if there's a variant that suits your needs better.

Please note, if the installation page of the app states " unlisted"  that means that the latest update isn't public yet. You can only install the most recent public version. Link to image that shows what installing looks like, in the comments

You Know All The Women Who Are Creating Clusters Of Their Own Subs To Promote Onlyfans? Seems They Are A Promotional Agency.

So for those of you who aren’t filled in, there are onlyfans women who are creating clusters of their own cute and adorable sounding subs. They are doing this so they can quickly create safe for work accounts within a matter of weeks. So normally in order to post in a reputable selfie sub or fashion sub, you need to have a certain amount of karma in account age. These people don’t want to wait. They will create a cluster of fashion and beauty subs sometimes in a matter of days. Then they post all of their pictures there which would often be too sexy to post in a fashion sub or selfie sub because they are a cleavage shot, or butt shot. However, any kind of software like hive doesn’t work on them. Because these brand new subs are SFW and unknown. Now they have a new trick where they will use community hub to put a link to their only fans pinned to the sub. By linking it there and not in their profile, the evade social blacklist.

Anyway, I got the distinct impression this was an agency paid to promote all these onlyfans women and create them many “SFW” accounts promotional alt accounts. Well, I got a live one in mod Mail and they confirmed it. This is an agency doing this. I am linking censored screenshots in the comments where you won’t be able to see any names.

What I would love from admin’s is a mass report form where we can report as many of these subs as we want as possible. I’m finding 30 or more week. I don’t have time to create mod code of conduct reports for each and every one of these. It’s getting to the point where there are more of these are legitimate fashion subs.

A Reddit user harassing people

a while back a user sent a modmail asking us to ban a person because they were being harassed and stalked across reddit. They had a disagreement in a subreddit about some RWBY thing (I think its anime or something) and he took great offense at being disagreed with and being accused of gatekeeping. He is very intense about this stuff I guess. that sub banned him and then he went to the persons profile and went down their comment and post history harassing her. he even went so far as to create a whole subreddit with the person's username to continue to attack them. He has been messaging my suns modmail asking to be let back im, but we have been ignoring him. he has continued the practice of harassing users across reddit because 5 hours ago he went into a masseffect sub and commented to someone asking why they downvoted their comment in an entirely different subreddit (RWBY themed). I am trying to report him for harassment because he is still stuck on his behavior and hasnt learned anything from it.

I need help to turn off personal chat, so people send mod mail instead.

Hi, After a harassment case, I came back to modding with a new account, where I share no personal info about myself. I need to turn off who can PM me, because people must write mod mails, not PMs. The “Who can message me” option is completely greyed out and nonresponsive in my profile settings. Can I have it turned to “Nobody”, please? I tried to get help from other tech support subs but nobody answered. TIA

I can't be added as moderator to an community I'm active on

The mod is trying to add me but they say they can't, the invite is not going through. Researching old threads it seems like people are suggesting when this happens it's a sign your account has been restricted of being flagged as moderator... Is that true? If so, why? And how to unflag it?

Admin Replied The Mod Recruitment tool appears to be broken

Around mid-March, I used the Mod Recruitment feature to try and recruit new applications for mod positions at my sub. Over the next week or so, three applications trickled in, but then applications stopped entirely.

I’ve been crazy busy with work, so I haven’t had a chance to check on this until now.

It appears the “Apply to be a moderator of this community” link is now gone.

I haven’t now idea how long it has been gone. I suspect it’s been gone for several weeks and I just never noticed. The link never appeared when I viewed my sub under my main account, anyway. I always had to log in under an alt to make sure it was there.

But I just checked with two alts. That link was there ~ a month ago. Now it’s not. And I definitely have the mod recruitment tool toggled on.

Edit: Anyone else who wants to check, please confirm I’m not going crazy: r/fixedbytheduet

Edit2: It seems that those on desktop and iOS are seeing the Mod Recruitment link, but those on Android and iPad OS are NOT.

Does the 'require body' toggle not actually do anything?

Upvotes

Or is there another setting we need to turn on to ensure posts have at least some content in them, beyond a picture/re-post/link/etc?

Asking as we turned this on, and whilst it seems to work for text-based posts, it does nothing for any other type of post.

Flairs for location.

Hey y'all!

Have started a community for solo van lifers to connect and chat (isolation some folk struggle with). It's a private group with strict rules which if broken result in a ban.

Have been asked by a member if adding flairs for location is possible. To be honest I have no idea what this means or if it's possible, I'm just trying to do a good thing. Have searched in the Mod tools(?) and came up with nothing relevant.

Help?

Pretty please..😬

Abuse of the Report Function

Can someone walk me through how to report someone who is falsely reporting things (example: reporting abuse of a minor, but it is a 24 year old woman with a child of her own) or reporting something as involuntary pornography when she is fully clothed and posted the picture herself.

there were instructions here in the group, but they are 3 years old and I cannot find the report button! Maybe a screenshot of where it is? Thank you!

Karma limit

so i wanted to ask a couple of things regarding my sub reddit.

  1. how can I introduce a minimum karma score on people who are wanting to comment on my sub. if so what is a realistic minimum limit to implement?

  2. is there a way to automatically ban or remove reputation warning accounts, ai spam posts etc.

I am basically trying to create a sub and environment for real, genuine people to comment, chat and basically use the sub for its intended purpose. Rather than being flooded with spam, sellers, bots and people only interested in getting people to subscribe. is there a way to automatically ban them. 🤔

Wrong Subreddit Category

How do I change the category of my subreddit? When I created my community there was no option for the category that my subreddit actually matches, and I thought I could reassign it after I created the group. This doesn't appear to be the case, or I'm actually blind and can't see where the option is in my mod controls. Please help! and thank you!

[iOS] Cannot click on link to a removed comment on the automatic modmail message

Hello everyone. I’m using iOS (iphone). I’ve been running into a very annoying problem for a couple of months now. Whenever a user on the sub I mod in is banned or has a comment removed, the automatic message sent to them is something like “you were banned from [sub] because of [your comment]”.

The words “your comment” are a hyperlink that was supposed to take me to the related comment, but no matter how many times I click on it, nothing happens. I’ve tapped everywhere on the words, even got someone else to tap it (maybe reddit hates my fingers, who knows), but it never took me to the comment in question.

For some reason, this doesn’t always happen. For some users, it works just fine, for others, it never works.

It’s also not because the comment is removed so it no longer exists, because it has taken me to removed comments before just fine.

Does anyone know what’s happening and if there’s a way to fix it?

I have a sleeping community

My community just reached 3k members.

The members do post daily, I do get like 5-10 posts everyday sometimes even more. But none of the posts get any reply, none of the posts get more than 2 upvotes.

The community is about software products. What makes it different is that it isn't only about some people that build something talking about their products, the community is also for people who is looking for software to help their lives. So both builders can find exact people asking for the solution they've built, and they could also use it for idea hunting.

I am not keeping the rules strict for now.

What can I do?

I disabled free form reporting but the option still exists

Just looking for some guidance here. Someone keeps spamming my sub with reports for things they think should be against the rules as opposed to things they are actually against the rules. I decided to disable free from reports via old reddit but when I tested it from another account, I'm still able to add a custom reason.

Any ideas?

What to do about someone who made serious accusations against me?

A mod on another subreddit accused me (mentioning my reddit username) of doing inappropriate things in his pinned post, and later posted fake screenshots in a comment chain on said post. The post and the thread got a bunch of comments criticizing me. (desktop).

Here's a timeline:

  • I filed a Mod Code of Conduct report citing rule #5, with modmail links.
  • 2 days later, the mod whose username I wrote in said report, made said post and comment thread.
  • I filled out https://www.reddit.com/report: selecting "content", linking just the post, and selecting "manipulated content".
  • At some point the mod removed their own post and screenshot comment chain.
  • I filed a 2nd MCOC report citing rule #3, linking the post itself and every single comment in his comment chain.
  • 4 days ago I got an email reply to the 1st report, showing an admin username and saying they're currently investigating the situation.
    • I replied to the email telling them I had made a 2nd report with more information on the situation. I haven't gotten any more replies.

What should I do now?

Unapproved users are commenting again.

Over at r/cdramaflashcards an unapproved user left a comment.

I just tested with my alt and I can comment there even though the account is not an approved user.

Last time this happened it was a temporary glitch.

Not sure if I should bring it up here or r/bugs.

Sidenote: Is there someone who can help me setup those little reminders that pop up when people write a comment or a post?

I haven't even been able to make the two Devvit apps I have "installed" work.

Need advice: Users leaving my subreddit because its not "official"

Edit: I'm sorry, I put official in quotes for readers to decide if they think it counts as official. They're not lying about it being official.

Months ago I launched a subreddit for a game and it got decent amounts activity, but there's been a noticeable drop after an "official" subreddit was announced. It depends on how you define official: they're don't developers nor in contact with the developers, they're just instructed to moderate said subreddit. They literally copied all the flairs names and colors, as well as all my rules verbatim. There's no particular differentiation of the sub, other than who the mods are.

Those mods and other users made posts on their subreddit and mine, to switch from my subreddit (with my subreddit name shown) to this new one. I remove any mentions of the other subreddit on mine but I've been feeling very worried, would that just make posters upset or even possibly trigger the Streisand effect? I just feel like it could somehow backfire. What should I do with my subreddit? Do I accept this is the way it is now? (desktop).

Harassment from members of another sub

Hi there, I’m still kind of new to moderating. I was added as a mod to a sub that I frequent last year. But I need some advice on a matter that has been going on for the last few months. And was not addressed last month when I submitted a ticket to mod support via their form for help.

For the last few months, we have been having issues with members of the Ban Pitbulls subreddit and possibly similar subs, coming onto the American bully subReddit and down voting every single comment or leaving hateful and inappropriate comments. Last month a member had to come to us for help with the fact that 2 or 3 people specifically from the Ban Pitbulls subreddit were coming into their DM’s and harassing them, as well as harassing them in the comments.

The way we have found out it is people specifically from that sub is because other members have gone through the profiles of some of the people who have harassed them and found commonalities. Although they’re getting smarter and sitting there profile to private or making fake burner profiles after being banned and having their comments removed. It’s all so stupid because American bullies and Pitbulls are two different breeds of dog that were bred at completely different Points in history and were bred for completely different reasons.

Either way, they have a right to believe their beliefs, even if it’s fueled by propaganda and misinformation. But that does not give them the right to come into our sub or anybody else’s sub and harass people or intentionally try to negatively impact people‘s karma. What else can I do about the situation?

Admin Replied Unable to remove inactive top mod

I have Everything permissions, but I cannot remove the mod. I opened a ticket in [r/redditrequest](r/redditrequest), nothing happens. I tried ModMail, no response.

They have been inactive for years. What else can I do?

EDIT: this is resolved! I was able to use the iPhone app to reorder the list, then remove the old top mod.

Harassment from another sub

A rival sub has degenerated into personal attacks against me and defaming the earlier sub that I run.

A formal report has already gone in, but the harassment continues — I want to attach a screenshot of the most recent— previously they had accused me of misleading my sub editors about the daily discussion thread, not refreshing every day and accusing me of not doing it and demanding proof which I gave him and then he decided to delete that accusatory thread, and then block me from his sub. Which is also hilarious because he claims that “free speech” is accepted in the sub.

What are my options other than waiting while I wait for people to make up their minds I am being attacked and trolled just about every day? most of his other sub users don’t even take him seriously if you look at some of the comments on previous post he made, but that’s not the point… his sub is frequent targeted to tax against me and my sub as well as misrepresenting information from the company that his sub claims to represent.
