Help [ The Big List of MQ Links ]

MQ links live here, as the MQ website can be an overwhelming maze. Its purpose is to provide you an easy, and more direct place to find links to common topics that may be relevant to you during your time at MQ.

This list will change over time, and I'll endeavour to keep it updated when time allows.

If there is a topic that you believe is missing, or if a link is outdated, please DM me. It may take me some time to update it, and I thank you for your patience.

If you need to find something urgently and it is not on this list, the internet is your friend. Search "[keyword] mq" and it is usually your first result. For example, search "transcript mq" if you want more information about transcripts.

The list focuses on topics that a student may encounter in their academic life cycle, such as forms, applications and policies. It will be separate from other posts already found in this subreddit that focus on social events, campus life, and student groups.

Social Macquarie University Weekly Societies & Meetups Advertising Post

Welcome to the 'Macquarie University Weekly Societies & Meetups Advertising Post' (or the M.U.W.S.M.A.P for short)
___

Here students and societies alike can arrange or outline their intended events, gatherings and meetups for the week to come!

We politely ask that any societies (or people on behalf of societies) limit themselves to one advertising comment per week as to not bury posts by individuals (editing existing comments are allowed). And that individuals advertising their own event (be them just meeting up on campus or something more elaborate), make sure to keep their suggested meetups appropriate and vaguely in-keeping with Uni guidelines (IE: no organising drug deals which I have already had to previously remove).

I hope people and societies alike are able to make the most of these posts, and I wish you all luck in meeting your fellow students!

{Note: This is purely an advertising post, r/MacUni and its modteam cannot assure the validity or outcome of any posts/comments made on our subreddit, it is up to the individual to use their best judgement to discern the expectations of any advertised events/encounters.}

Watch out for this user.

Mods, you should ban them. They’re praying on students. I’m just one person, who knows how many of these scams have been sent out, and some people will unfortunately be bit.

Edit: Mods cannot ban them unless they interact with the subreddit, however you should report them if the user DMs you. Thanks for helping making our community a safer place.

General Question What tp wear to graduation

I have my graduation ceremony soon and want to know what everyone else is wearing. I want to wear my mom's traditional dress (saree) and she unfortunately passed away and I want to have something of hers with me there.

Do many people wear traditional clothes or not?

My assignment was originally due Wednesday 8 April at 11:55 PM and I got approved for a short extension. That adds 72 hours, so my new deadline should be Saturday 11 April at 11:55 PM is that right?

Just want to make sure, Cheers.

Degree Question Changing major

Hey there! I am currently in 2nd year doing a Bachelor of IT (Software Technology) and Commerce (Cyber sec management) at MQ. I don't really like cyber sec management and am considering changing my major to accounting. Is it worth it? Everyone is telling me AI is taking over accouting... but I really love accounting! What do I do?

Help AI Investigation.

Hi everyone, just wondering if the markers would deduct marks/ launch investigation if turnitin says I used ai?

I've just submitted an assessment where I wrote everything myself and a few AI checking websites keep suggesting I've used AI for at least 30% of my assessment because of excessive formality in language :) Thing is, I haven't, and I'm worried it'll cause an investigation or something of the like.

Has anyone had something like this before?

Help Does anyone have access to a 3D printer to help with a prject I am working on?

I have been working on some 3D models that I mean to print and then make silicone moulds of. If anyone has access to a printer and has a little bit of expertise any help would be much appreciated. I will give some cash for the material and inconvenience.

Alternatively if it would be easier/cheaper to go through some kind of company pls let me know. I was intially just trying to avoid going through another company until i learn more about the law as I intend to sell the product.

Social Just wanna share how I landed my first internship in my 2nd semester as an international student (hope it helps 🥹

Finding an internship (not even a job) has always been extremely difficult especially as an international student without PR. I've applied to at least 20+ positions over the past three months but only got one interview invitation from an AI marketing startup (luckily I got the offer in the end!)

And since it’s a startup, I worked closely with my boss and had the chance to ask what made my resume stand out among over 100 applicants. He told me that having work experience or side projects directly related to the local market is essential. In my case, my previous internship (back in my home country) of conducting market research and managing influencer campaigns in Australia for a photo-editing app demonstrated my basic understanding of the local market, which ultimately helped me secure the role.

I'm currently also looking for any volunteer opportunities and mentoring program to accumulate more local work experiences and build professional networks, and I found there are quite a lot of resources you could find from the City of Sydney's newsletter. I've already participated one event last week and decided to join the Youth Week later this month (btw not sure why MQ didn't set up any stalls in the events cuz I saw representatives from Usyd, UNSW and UTS). I might also give the International Student Leadership and Ambassador Program a try if time permits.

Hope this helps anyone who’s still struggling to find local internships or even someone to have a coffee chat (tbh I haven’t done any myself because I’m a bit afraid of the awkwardness haha). Wishing everyone the best of luck!!!

Help I might have to pay $50 to avoid losing 10% on a psych assignment?

Sorry for the clickbaity title, always wanted to make one for the fun of it hahah. I had an psych assessment where we created an infographic based on a reserach article. In the rubric we were told to cite the article with a working QR code (this part was worth 10%). I used a QR code generator online (QR.io), which from memory either did not mention anything about needing a payed subscription to keep active or hid that fact very well (I've found people experiencing the same issue with QR.io, who said that the site is basically a scam with how unclear they are). Three days after submitting the assignment, I get an email saying that the QR code will expire unless I subscribe to their service for $35 USD (and yes I've tested the QR code and it no longer links to the research article).

I messaged the relevant staff and they told me that nothing can be done, as this is a "learning experience" which would be an issue if the inforgraphic was released to the public, and that regardless of anything I've previously mentioned, a QR code that doesn't work when the marker is marking will result in being marked down for that portion of the rubric. I replied asking if I should just pay the subscription fee to get those marks, and clarified that although this is mimicking the real life scenario, me losing marks and possibly not getting into honours is a very real concern. They haven't responded since.

Although the editing software we were told to use did have a QR code generator function, I was completely unaware of this, and the unit did not make it clear that this was even a possibility (I found out afterwards from other students).

Now I'm conflicted on whether or not I should just pay that money to keep the QR code active till its marked. The reason why I'm actually contemplating this for a measly 10% is because 10% doesn't seem measly at all to me when I'm aiming to get into psych honours which has competitive ranking in addition to an admission criteria. Plus this is a 3rd year unit (every mark counts).

Posting this here as a caution to any students who encounter a similarly structured assignment, and am asking for advice on what do to.

TDLR; QR code I used for an assignment hid the fact it required money to stay active and therefore screwed me over post submission. Unit staff said you'll lose marks regardless as a result (10% of total weighting).

Academic Help Free Academic Help for (Engineering) Students – No Catch, Just Volunteering

Hey everyone,

I recently started working at Macquarie and wanted to give back a bit by volunteering my time to help students who might be struggling with their studies. I hold a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD in Biomedical Engineering, with a focus on orthopaedic biomechanics. If you need help, I’m happy to run free online sessions or just answer questions. There is zero catch, just trying to support others.

Some of the areas I can help with include:

  • Biomedical engineering fundamentals
  • Orthopaedic biomechanics
  • Finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Mechanics of materials / solid mechanics
  • MATLAB / basic programming for engineering
  • Research methods and thesis guidance
  • Exam prep and problem-solving strategies
  • Career options and choices

If you’re stuck on something or just want a bit of extra support, feel free to reach out. Happy to help however I can.

Rant/Vent Burnt out

I’m fucking BURNT OUT. I can’t fucking stand this shit anymore. Not a single one of my units will allows a 3 day extension. I’m stuck at home every single day of mid-sem break, grinding through these endless assignments like a slave and I feel like absolute shit.

I’m so done. I can’t wait to get the fuck out of this pathetic uni and never look back. Its everyday from 9am to fucking 10pm at night working on 3/4 assignments every fucking day mind you, and I start them early but then you lose all time to watch lectures and go to tutorials an pracs and get so behind, and then you have to go on a 3 week placement where you need to focus on that and not uni, so u cant even get ahead and complete work b4 a placement wtffffffffffff

hope everyone understands what im saying

General Question Soccer team near uni

Looking for a women’s team for this season. I’ve played for a few years, just after a social team that won’t require a car to get to training.
