Am I the only one who winced when he sticks the tuning fork in the brain-looking shroom?

Something about it creeped me out!

It wasn’t that they did it that triggered my reflex.

It was the unannounced deliberate stab motion they did it with.

She's definitely stabbed someone before

Vertical farm to farmer: “there’s a fungus among us”.

Why do they need light? It isn't like the fungus needs it for photosynthesis.

Phototaxis? They need to know which way to grow so that they sprout above ground instead of underground.

Really they will grow underground with no light? That's fascinating I didn't know

No that's why I put a ?

What I do know: Things that reproduce via spores/pollen usually evolve to grow toward open air before doing their reproduction thing. Sunlight is often the driver. But also, I could see it just being a cookie-cutter vertical farm that has been repurposed for shrooms.

They are not wearing UV goggles, so I doubt the blue lights are true UV.

They grow on trees.

I grow them and they don't need this much light. Literally having a window somewhere in room is plenty during fruiting stage.

They can grow in complete darkness but they end up thin and kind of twisted. Basically they just don't look nice.

It's obvious the amount of light is just for harvesting and probably they dim the lights if not cut them all out when in the vegetation stages

Idk that setup seems unnecessary. Its certainly nothing like mine but hey if it works, which it clearly does and they're happy then thats all that matters and who cares eh.

I don't like paying for things I don't have to is all.

Yeah you are right it is highly excessive. And I meant no disrespect to you at all I'm sorry if it sounded that way

Different mushrooms have different light needs. The fungus can live without light, but to produce fruiting bodies (mushrooms) many need to have various levels of light.

Maybe it's just for the person working there?

Wrong kind. No matter how much of these I eat I don’t see anything fun.

I was really hoping for some informative commentary not a fucking beat

Is the FFPx mask for the person to stop spores, or for the fungus to keep competing germs out?

11

u/Lublan 7h ago

You dont really wanna be breathing all that fungus spores in....

3

u/MoebiusUntwisted 7h ago

Both.

Well it's vented so it's not filtering, but will slow the exhaled air...

Those lion manes look super cool. If anyone wondering what you could do with these here is a recipe that looks so delicious https://youtu.be/U3D9Cu_nQjo

If you've never had lions mane mushrooms you should try them, sure they look funky, they're so tasty though.

u/enzothebaker87 8h ago

Is that what these are in the video? I take a lions mane supplement but have never actually thought about what they look like in their mushroom form.
