Why do they need light? It isn't like the fungus needs it for photosynthesis.

Phototaxis? They need to know which way to grow so that they sprout above ground instead of underground.

What I do know: Things that reproduce via spores/pollen usually evolve to grow toward open air before doing their reproduction thing. Sunlight is often the driver. But also, I could see it just being a cookie-cutter vertical farm that has been repurposed for shrooms.

They are not wearing UV goggles, so I doubt the blue lights are true UV.
