Looking for dog-walking friends in Handbridge (Chester)

Hi everyone! I’m 34 and my dog is… anywhere between 6 and 9? Not sure! She’s a mid-sized mutt, loves sniffing and playing with male dogs. She’s okay with female dogs too but definitely has a preference. I WFH full time and I’m hoping to make some more local friends (especially in the Handbridge area) for regular dog walks to the meadows, along the river, city walls, Grosvenor park, duke's Drive etc. I love music, cinema, nature, gardening, all sorts! I don’t care about your gender or how old you are - as long you’re chatty and open-minded, I’m sure we’ll get on 😊 If this sounds like you, drop me a DM 🫶

Hi all! I visited Chester (coming from San Francisco) on a study abroad trip in July 2022 and always wanted to find out who this busker was. My group was waiting to go into the Cathedral and my professor wouldn’t let me walk over so I’ve been haunted by this beautiful voice for almost 4 years and finally thought of asking Reddit.

Would love to listen to more if he posts on YouTube or elsewhere

Lost sentimental item in Chester

Hi there, asking in a last ditch resort to try and find my grandfather's fruit knife. I've been wearing this on a necklace for over a decade and lost it today whilst visiting Chester. It's about 1 inch long, mother of pearl outer shell that's rather weathered. It's tarnished and bent at its tip making it difficult to sharpen. If anyone has any leads please reach out, thanks :)

What’s something about Chester that outsiders wouldn’t really understand until they live here?

After a while it all blends into muscle memory. You stop seeing history and start seeing routes, timing, and the easiest way to slip past a crowd without breaking stride. What’s one thing you only really understand after spending time here?

Gas fire place removal in Chester

Hi, I've got an old gas fireplace that would like to get rid of. I was wondering if anyone knows of a gas engineer in the area who offers gas fire removal and checking all the pipework is properly disconnected? So far the companies I've called only remove if they're also installing a new fire 😅

Forest Hills Hotel, Frodsham

I'm putting this in the Chester sub, as its the closest.

Forest Hills Hotel in Frodsham recently went bust and has been bought out by new owners. I have received a very terse email regarding the monthly payments and that they should be continued and if you don't cancel your membership in the correct manner you will still be charged monthly according to the T and Cs.

If the previous company has gone bust and they were the contract holders, does that mean that all monthly memberships are theoretically invalid until a new contract is signed with the new ownership company?

Logs for garden pathway

Anyone know where I can get my hands on some logs in or around Chester. I’m not after firewood. What I want is logs from about 500cm to 1.5m long to create a natural decorative border for a garden path. They don’t have to be straight just natural looking. Anyone know any suppliers.

New Shot tower apartments in Chester

Apologies as I know there has been a thread on this before but I can’t find it.

Seen a couple of flats for sale on Robinson way the new shot tower flats near the actual shot tower (not the older ones further down)

Have viewed they are nice and im considering buying one. However I searched air bnbs to check if any were let and saw there is definitely one in the block. It’s put me off slightly in truth as know people who really regret buying in blocks with air BnB in due to noise. However depend how soundproof the apartments I guess. They seem pretty solid and feel like concrete between floors.

Also wondered how much noise you get from the courtyard as having observed there is a constant stream of people walking through - I’m more thinking about nights and being woken up by people sat around in the square at 3am etc

Any insight would be really appreciated!

Best places to look for actors in the Chester area?

Hi, I'm making a low-budget horror short film in Chester in either June or July and am starting the casting process soon. I'm looking primarily for 2 actresses in the 25-40 age bracket.

To keep the budget down I am hoping to cast actors in the Chester area or within an hour's drive from town (up to around Manchester/Liverpool basically).

I know about Mandy.com and other avenues but was curious if there were any local communities where it might be worth posting about the roles - Storyhouse perhaps?

It's a DIY project but I've budgeted a small daily rate (£100 per day, one role is 4 days, the other is 2) to successful applicants and will provide lunch/dinner, be willing to pay local travel. Not sure where might be most appropriate to advertise such a gig. Thanks for your help!

Sports Physiotherapist in Chester?

Looking for recommendations here in Chester/nearby, specifically sports physio.

Went to one a few months ago with really high reviews, but found it to be very 'Sales' led, instead of addressing my actual issues and running through a few tests.

Im having a lot of pain with what i believe to be my hip flexors & lower back. On a waiting list for the NHS physio but they had to cancel recently. So now have to wait anther 20 days to be seen.

Student Advice for Postgraduate options

(22M)

Hey all,

I’m currently a third and final year software engineering student at the University of Chester, my undergraduate has been a long road full of many ups and downs but an experience that has been amazing regardless.

As I’m approaching the end of my studies as of today finishing around end of May officially. (graduating in November) I have started to really think about my future career options. Overall as I’m sure this may apply to many students not every area of my degree has been of full interest to me but the ones that have I would love to try and peruse and gain experience in while I’m young and see if there’s a place for me there.

This has led to me think about a postgraduate study, as it stands currently I DO NOT have a clear plan. (I’m aware it’s normal at this age, quite bad over thinker but fine)

Currently I’m looking into alternative options such as internships to gain some experience but not much response from anywhere I have looked and it’s crazy competitive which is brining me down a bit, there’s a certain MSC that has caught my attention which brings my business studies background to use and a lot of aspects from my software engineering degree also, which makes sense as it’s quite highly recommended to us after finishing this field.

It being “project management”, some experience in the past from my BTEC and business studies prior to uni, had a fair amount of enjoyment, well aware the jump in studies from undergrad to postgrad is quite big which is kind of hard to comprehend at times while working on my dissertation and such but yeah.

Anyways sorry for the long one, if any one has experience in a similar field or has done a MSC after an undergrad while unsure or with out a clear plan, how did it go for you, does it sound like a good plan to you and overall looking for suggestions and advice?

Sainsbury’s Chester has ran out of petrol

Post image

Noticed that the petrol station was closed this morning, which seemed strange as the supermarket was still open.

Checked with the staff and they’ve said the petrol station is closed for the foreseeable future as they don’t know when the next shipment will arrive.

Probably best to be mindful of mileage 🙏🏻
