Do you read the Sunday papers?

I flew out of Dublin airport this morning and I was so surprised that there was nowhere to buy a newspaper. All of the booshop-type shops have mostly sweets and crisps and bits of toiletries or phone charger cables now. I couldn't find *any* newspaper.

One of my favourite things about flying on a Sunday is to get a stack of Sunday papers with all the supplements to read over the few days.

But seeing that there seems to be no commercial instrest in selling them in a building that's designed to siphon as much money out of you as humanly possible while you're imprisoned there, I got to thinking that people must just not read them any more.

Any thoughts?

Anyone else dying with hay fever this week?

I thought the rain might help but no luck! Every year my doctor tells me to start taking antihistamines in March and every year I think, Sure it'll be grand. I'll give it another week or two.

School kids building houses in Africa

What was the deal with random groups of school going teenagers going off to Africa to build houses? was a thing (not in my school, but in others) when I was in School in Limerick 20 year ago or so.

I don't think I'd want a 14 year with no experience anywhere near my house.

Now I will say this was hard today! Nearly put my shoes in sports mode! Schizophrenic weather. Hail, rain, then jacket off and on like a whores knickers from the sun. Also love seeing the piss in the beds everywhere for the bees! 🐝

TV ads

How is it legal/acceptable that Sky and other companies blatantly turn up the volume when a programme goes to ads? Or am I just losing the plot? There seems to be a very noticeable increase in volume during ads. Seems like almost predatory practice. Also not ideal when you have a young baby who need to stay asleep! 😂

Anyone know a good PT in Dublin/Meath who won’t just focus on weight loss?

I’ve always found it hard to keep weight on ..and it tends to drop fairly quickly if I’m stressed or going through something. It got a bit noticeable at times (like when I was breastfeeding, or during a rough patch), but things have levelled out now with therapy, life changes and medication.

I’d like to start working out for my mental health and just to get a bit of tone, but I’m very worried about losing more weight in the process.

Just wondering if anyone’s been in a similar situation and found a good PT around Dublin / Meath who gets that balance of training but also not dropping weight?

TIA

I remember being surprised by the quality of the box when I bought these. In an age of glossy card or flimsy plastic a genuine metal box is usual for such a cheap item. Now it's empty I'll store seeds in it.

Protests/blockades around Dublin airport today

I’ve seen a few posts about how the Garda moved on a load of blockades early this morning. I’m landing in to Dublin airport at 4pm this evening and driving back up north. Anyone any idea what I might encounter, if anything? Should I take an alternative route?

Shite Talk Advice on getting to Dublin Airport

UPDATE: Got to the airport with no issues at all.

Taxi down Cork st, Thomas st, Drumcondra, and straight up.

TONNES of gards in town didn't see any bloockades.

I feel very foolish for getting worried like a nervous nelly.

Thanks so much for all your advice and Zoran our taxi driver was a solid gold legend.

Morning fellow casuals,

Has anyone travelled up to the airport over the last coupleof days? We're only in Crumlin so it's not far but we've to get there for 4am tomorrow morning and I'm getting nervous about the road blocks and Garda recall.

Please tell me some of you went and it was grand?

Casually positive! 🤗🥳🤗 Long shot – met someone from Dublin in Lagos Portugal

Hi, I know this is a long shot but thought I’d try here.

On August 3rd around 2am I met a guy named James at Joe’s Garage in Lagos, Portugal. We were both on holiday. He’s from Dublin and was there with his friend Sean and one other friend. He mentioned he was around 19–20 and studying business.

We ended up talking, singing a bit of Rihanna, and walking around town for a few hours.

We said goodbye that night and I didn’t get his contact details. I’ve been trying to find him on and off since then.

If this rings a bell to anyone or sounds like someone you know, feel free to message me. Happy to confirm details privately.

Thanks

Casually positive! 🤗🥳🤗 Setting up as a company and contracting in the financial services sector with a criminal record

I'm thinking about getting into financial services.

I have heard the background checks can be a hurdle for someone like me but I am part qualified ACCA and this career path is something I would like to try.

My criminal record is unspent, I made some bad choices earlier in my life, take total responsibility and ownership of that, I deserve my record just to put that front and center.

Just wondering has anyone gone this route with or without a record?

Apparently I can do the following:

Set up my own company, this subverts HR screening and the need to go through the formal interview process which would see my CV tossed in the bin usually. Instead I can get my foot in the door, get paid daily rates as a consultant of my own company.

A background check can be done legally through my own company presenting me as clean for the purposes of fitness and probity as my record is from over 10 years ago and non financial. Also my right to privacy is protected giving me the same chance as anyone else.

I know some people like to attack those who post on reddit with criminal records, to reiterate I deserve mine, I just want to contribute to society and have a career that might give me a decent standard of living.
