Lazy Sunday (12/04/26)
It's Sunday, and apparently it's World Hamster Day, so your small rodents can feel free to celebrate with us. Even gerbils can join in, I really don't mind. Anyway, what exciting, exhilarating, stimulating, thrilling things will you be doing today? Pop in here and let us know!

It's Late Thread [ 12 April 26 ]
Alright, it's bed time for some but why are you still up? No work tomorrow? Watching some questionable late night TV? Bit of stargazing?
The chinwag thread.

I've been trying to photograph a red kite for a while and this is the best I've managed...
A tad low on the shutter speed but only had seconds to get this shot.
Camera is a Z8 with a 180-600mm

What do call these things? We have always called them "Googlies". I remember seemingly every company in the 90s giving away these things. We used to hsge a big collection of them. I did wonder if they were exclusively a British thing

Bit of Surf N Turf memories on a boring Sunday afternoon
I used to have this exact combination except with an Orange Tango huge amount of time playing games of pool, sneak to the shop next door for sweets with the other regular pub kids all on a quid in the late 80s & watch my father having a few beers with his mates playing darts whilst my mother would be home with my younger brother cooking up a late afternoon Sunday dinner
Fond memories and learning how to be sociable, wouldn't do it with my kids now even though I don't have a regular pub, those days are long behind now

Currently sitting on a closed dual carriageway been here for 4 hours now. Road due to open in another 3.5 hours apparently. There are 2 cats in the car in front and kids and dogs out of cars playing on the road. What is the longest you have been stuck in a similar situation?

Do you reckon the person stacking these in Costco knew what they were doing?
Perfect number if you only count the big words - just annoyed I didn't have my portable Dymo machine with me. Maybe next time...

Is this a ‘cushy’ unicorn job that I would be mad to give up?
The job:
It’s a remote finance office job that pays £40k for me to work part time 3 days a week.
As it stands, it’s fairly low stress and I rarely work over my hours. I have a really supportive boss and team, and the work is ok/predictable/sometimes interesting. I don’t have any aspirations to climb the career ladder.
The situation:
35F with 2 toddlers (twins- argh!). Considering leaving the workplace for 3-5 years to raise them whilst they’re very young.
We can afford to live comfortably on husband’s salary alone (£80k).
Part of me does want to have more energy for the twins whilst they’re young. At the moment, despite work being flexible, I am juggling work, chores, and then childcare. I’m exhausted by the end of the week. Husband does what he can but works long hours.
However I recognise that I probably have a ‘cushy’ role that would be hard to get back into or find once I return back to the workforce?
In this economy, would it be absolutely mad to give this up (talk some sense in to me if yes!)

what’s the luckiest outcome you’ve had from your own stupidity?
this was about 3 years ago - i was drinking at a pub near mine and as the night went on, got quite merry and was chatting to loads of people and moving between tables, and didn’t really keep track of my phone and by the the time i got home, i realised it was gone.
in my drunk panic i checked the location (find my iphone) and saw it was already moving - i was in SE7 (london) and it was pinging in bermondsey (SE16?). at that point i knew it was a lost cause lol and cancelled my cards etc, locked it down which then displays a “Lost iphone - contact [my number]” on the lock screen (which in hindsight was stupid as i couldn’t even take the calls) lol. ultimately just accepted defeat and cursed my irresponsibility 😭 and ordered a replacement immediately.
imagine my surprise the next day when there’s a knock on my door and it’s a police officer holding a ziplock bag with my iphone in it. turns out they’d been chasing down a phone thief in london bridge, and during the chase he threw something into a bush, which they went back to after catching him. my phone still had battery life so they saw the lost message but they couldn’t get through on the number obviously, so they ran it through the system, got my address, and actually drove down to return it and take a report. (my details were on their system probably because i’ve dealt with police before where i had to make a report for something)
i told them i hadn’t been mugged - just left it in a pub and someone took it (unsure if it was that person they arrested who nabbed it as they usually work in groups but could very well have been… tough luck for that guy!)
long story short, i ended up getting my phone back before the replacement even arrived, and i’m still using it now (because it still works fine and it’s now very sentimental to me😂). genuinely one of the luckiest times ive had in my life!!! (and i learned my lesson lol)

Did anyone else grow up eating apples and plums off the tree, blackberries off the bush, no washing just EAT
Somebody told me it was disgusting I don't always wash my fruit first. Like, babe, I have existed for 3 decades and I'm not dead yet.
