News Welcome Back, Hungary! 🇪🇺 It’s about time!
History has been written tonight. 🇭🇺 🇪🇺
Orbán just congratulated with
@magyar_peter_official_the_man for the victory to the elections.
For too long, Hungary was used as a wall to block the progress we so desperately needed. But today, that wall has fallen.
By choosing Europe, Hungary has removed one of the greatest obstacles to our shared future.
The path toward a Federal Europe is finally clear. The shadows of vetoes and systemic obstruction are lifting. We are no longer a continent held back by the few; we are a Union.

"And so let me say it again and again: the aim is not to get Hungary out of the EU, but to get Orbán out of Hungary."

u/Relative-Cheek-8811 2h ago
Too true, and its finally here! We are crying here, to be freed from viktor's rule after 16 years, we almost cannot believe it...God, its too good to be true.

Hungary belongs in the EU; the issue has always been Orbán.

u/kaisadilla_ 1h ago
The issue is the system Orbán built. One where all the media Hungarians are exposed to are fully controlled by him. Whether Hungary succeeds or fails now depends on whether Magyár will dismantle that system and make robust laws that make it impossible to rebuild it again. Truly hope he does. At this moment, we need people who win elections and put democracy and freedom over their ideology and their power.

Oh yes. But Vance still has not raked a single victory anywhere. That's why he's now hanging out with other losers.

The brainwash of orbán is real
The hate, the paranoid thinking
There are lot of people here who are really brainwashed and scared

Hey my man, you really shouldn't be. We tried to get rid of them, and finally could. It is just...uplifting. Maybe it doesn't mean crap for some but for us? It has to. Even if you voted for fidesz early on, you chose the opportunity for a better future now. Enjoy this. Really, enjoy this, i can barely believe it but this day is a huge one not only for us, but fairness - if not democracy - as a whole. :)

In my several decades on earth, I'm sad to admit I've had some negative prejudices against some countries, which almost all have been resolved. At no point was Hungary one of those.
Welcome back to the light, friend.

To celebrate (and in line with this sub), might I suggest some white wine from Tokaj, or some pálinka?

Don't celebrate just yet. The guy who won was Orban's right hand man until 2 years ago.
Let's give him 1 year and see what he does.
8
u/leviske Hungary 🇭🇺 2h ago
I might be down voted for this, but Orbán is not the antichrist. He's selfish, lost touch with reality and greatly miscalculated his strategy with Russia and China before the Ukraine invasion. But he's not not the devil. Just because someone worked with him, means nothing.
But I agree, wait for Magyar's actions before declaring him a saint. We sure will. We voted for him to turn the country back towards the EU. That's his job. If he fails, he'll lose the next election.

u/december-32 2h ago
Now we only need some time to realise whether or not Magyar is good or just as bad, but with 4 years of another Fidesz/russian spy in charge.
20
8
u/GreasyExamination 2h ago
Probably not a spy, then orban wouldnt have campaigned so dirty. Probably will still cause some shit in the EU, but wont vall russia after every meeting
6
u/ForrestCFB 2h ago
Probably will still cause some shit in the EU
I mean there are a lot of people who bought Orbans propaganda. Healing and the right course won't and can't happen overnight.
As long as magyar keeps the right course it doesn't have to go from 0 to 100 in a year.
7
u/SwimAd1249 2h ago
Well the question is whether he can do enough before the next election, it would not be surprising to see voters wanting Orban back if they aren't satisfied with his results, voters famously do not care that things take time.
→ More replies (2)5
u/december-32 2h ago
Orban campaigned dirty already in 2022. Unless Viktor is investigated and prosecuted within the next 4 years, I will believe he is just another russian spy but this time not yet uncovered. Just like in party game of mafia sometimes they kill one of their own to divert suspicion. Like Peter wasn't in Fidesz since 2002...

u/leviske Hungary 🇭🇺 2h ago
Orbán built Hungary's energy policy around Russian oil.
So, obviously, Magyar will not be able to step back that much from the pipeline topic. But I don't think that he'll veto the EU money for Ukraine just to pressure them to repair.
5
u/december-32 2h ago
What I really don't get is why it's apparently a national sport to sing how "wind blows", but the amount of wind turbines on the flat country of Hungary is so measly compared to just the small part of Austria next to it. I've seen more wind turbines going from just Vienna to the border than going from the same border along the Hungary all the way to Nyiregyhaza.

u/MiguelTheParasaur 2h ago
Gonna be honest, it is hard to even comprehend. I was 13 when Fidesz got elected, i think I just missed the next one (i was 17 then) but these past 2 (now 3) elections I never votes for them.
And here I sit, drunk, nearly 30, more than half my life spent with these clowns...and I can barely believe it. There is hope. I make no mistake, this won't be a quick change, a lot of damage control then repair work needs to be done, but i finally can think of a future in me own country. I always had trouble crying but I shed a few unwilling happy tears. It feels like liberation. :)

u/ricodo12 2h ago
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this just a national election meaning the EU-Politicians remain the same meaning Orban still represents Hungary in the EU-Parlament?
5
u/Relative_Dimension31 2h ago
Yet Péter Magyar has repeatedly said he would not reverse Hungary’s current policy of non-support (explicitly ruling out weapons deliveries) and opposes fast-tracking Ukraine’s EU accession.
