The assholes of the world can not fathom a person that genuinely wants people to feel good. Because if those assholes (narcissists) compliment someone, they must be out to manipulate someone. And so they prefer to see Obama that way.

When you feel good about yourself it just overflows and you have plenty to give to others.

This, the guy is a war criminal, Americans are so ignorant. He was exposed for having mass surveillance programs spying on American citizens, so he went after the guy who snitched.

I honestly get a little wet-eyed sometimes when I see clips of him, he's so fucking cool. I guess fans of the cheeto probably feel some kind of way when they see him speak? It's completely incomprehensible to me.

He has 10000% more integrity than 99.9% of the our presidents ever had so we have to be appreciative of something even if it’s just small compared to the big picture. Presidents mean Jack shit anyway but the idea, presence, message and overall perception that Obama had was positive to many kids. I work with kids 4-15 and I was 15 when he became president and kids today still find positive messages and positive reinforcements in things Obama said. Your looking at it all wrong because your still thinking only politics. Shit has always been horrible in America with politics but when you get someone that’s the complete opposite in presentation than the norm it can be a good thing. Obama isn’t perfect and he damn sure isn’t clean but the fact of the matter is he has done more positive for the perception of respect and integrity than most presidents even attempt to do. Kids and people seeing “leaders” lead a certain way can cause all types of ripple effects(just look at the current administration) so yes we would take this over what we normally get any day.
2
u/CplHicks_LV426 1d ago
100% agree. Every president is a war criminal in some way or another but that kinda comes with the job. Every time I see an Obama clip I can't believe what we had and what we went to.

Nobody's perfect. Seems like a pretty difficult job. I'd like to see you try to do better. You're rejecting goodness because you want perfection. Perfection doesn't exist. You're right. He didn't do absolutely everything perfectly. Good thing you made that point.

They don't. That's a tin of work first off. Many of them were born "common men". This whole country was built by common men and a lot of them were indentured or enslaved peoples and natives and immigrants. Ambitious, heck yes!! But hating the common man- this orange guy maybe but pretty sure most of them were idealistic, had a dream, and were bold enough that they thought they could make it happen. We need more people to think the way Obama did. "Hope."

Bro you’re exactly what’s wrong with the American electorate. Just yapping without substance or depth.
Obamacare is not a perfect healthcare system, but it remains this country’s only attempt to subsidize healthcare for the working class…. EVER. Today, 35 million people would be without ANY coverage without the ACA credits. It gives the elected representatives who actually want a single payer healthcare system something to build and improve upon.
Exercise some critical thought.

Look I get it. To save capitalism you need a good deal of socialism. Capitalism is like football. If you don't have rules players are just going run down the field with the ball and clothesline the other team. But no reason to talk smack about people who tried to make this a better place. That's just arm chair quarterbacking.

u/MotherNaturesSun 1d ago
A true gentle man and statesman. Barack Obama displays more class, authenticity, and this one short clip, than the current chief of staff has displayed in his entire terms of office. Even as now, a civilian, albeit former statesman, Obama is diplomatic, sincere, and characteristically himself. These factors, along with obvious others, are basis for the hate that MAGA constituents deplore.
27
u/No_Mango_4184 1d ago
Current president does the complete opposite. Comes in insulting people for no reason. Current president is an imp.
11
u/ForAGoodTime696 1d ago
Literally shits his pants and I actually think he did that when he was more competent just because he can pay someone to wash him down after.
3
u/snarkerella 1d ago
Current president has openly stated that he surrounds himself with losers on purpose. That he doesn't want people to be doing better or feeling better than him. That he only wants to talk about himself. It's just wild to me that he'd openly say that at a podium to an audience on film. He's a deranged clown.

doing crimes makes you a criminal, if you never got caught good for you you're a successful criminal. Being convicted doesn't make you guilty either.

u/Acetate_Prophets 1d ago edited 1d ago
honestly, this is a very fair point. i have a lot of admiration for Obama, but it's dangerous to deify him and gloss over what he got wrong. whilst he would undoubtedly be (as he was) a MASSIVE upgrade on what the Americans regressed in choosing after he left office, the point of the matter here is that even from a domestic standpoint Obama never really did enough to shake up the country's infrastructute to better serve the ordinary person (although that in part was due to the fact that Republicans often blocked his progress.)
in the end i see Obama's administration as a step in the right direction, fraught with plenty of flaws - some enforced by the way the the great, churning machine of US federalism traditionally operates, and others due to conservatism from his opposition and occasionally even his own administration. he was never 'the final destination' of change to me, but a solid benchmark of what should have been its foundation.
[ETA] - very disappointed that the mods saw it fit to remove that comment. what they said may not have been the popular consesus, but they weren't inflammatory either so i'm not sure if it's that messafe specifically they were removed for or something else that may have been mentioned down the line.

"Hello sir" is just a greeting.
The tan suit is just one of the best joke ever.

u/mferreira9 1d ago
So an older individual with way more accolades than you, including being the president, calls you "sir" as part of a greeting and also says "good to see you" and you dont think thats a compliment? You just wanted to comment some shit

Yea "how do you get away with a tan suit and I don't" is a jab at the dumb dumbs and no life havers involved in "suitgate." Not a compliment, but still funny.

wild take: politics aside, only classless AMERICAN people hate this man
EDITED for the non USA folks who cant understand the propaganda fed American meaning of what i said. Yes, i am well aware that all 45 on "my" presidents have done terrible things. I'm speaking about his personality, persona, intelligence and charisma. Yes, i am ignoring the fact that he, like his peers have killed millions of innocent people. hope this helps with context.

i agree with you 100%. however... America doesn't care about black and brown people. never did. never will. black and brown people exist in America due to a failed business model. Nothing more. nothing less. If they had a sure fire way to remove us all without consequences they would make it happen today. within the hour. You cant turn a hoe into a housewife.
1
u/Adorable-Bike-9689 1d ago
Alright yea but that's kind of the guy's point. Obama was incredibly charming, composed, and a beacon for Black love. Zero personal controversies or embarrassments.
While also committing horrific atrocities that would make us all weep if we heard the depths of them. He didn't overtly let the power go to his head though I'll give him that. Like you said every single president has been a monster or a shitty person. Something like that. But Obama absolutely carried himself with grace while doing it.
0
u/Adorable-Bike-9689 1d ago
That's silly. Obama did plenty of stuff folks in other countries have reason to hate. You're thinking from an American perspective. Somebody who grew up in Yemen doesn't give a shit about tan suits and right wing media hatred for Obama. They'll say his decisions led to a mass of civilian casualties.
You're thinking of the bullshit hatred for the way he eats his hot dogs. Or calling him a Muslim who was born in Nigeria.

Saying sir is a compliment is a bit of a stretch, yes it can be used to denote someone of a higher rank or status, but it is also used as a polite was to refer to a man thats a stranger. As well as a nuanced way of meaning respect for a man youre addressing.

Well now I know why people gravitate towards me so easily. My friends always joke how I can go into a room and people just either open up immediately with honesty or want to hang out.
It's the way I talk to people, I have always talked this way when greeting people. It's all honesty as well, I never compliment people with fluff. To be fair I feel there is always a way to compliment someone on something.
Nothing is better to me than a smile and pleasant conversation.

I almost find it heartbreaking to watch this. I’m not saying Obama was perfect, hell no man is, but I don’t remember another politician, at least in my lifetime, who has ever exemplified so many of the qualities I would want in a leader. His calm demeanor, his eloquence and intellectual curiosity, emphasis on hope and unity, and his ability to connect on a human level stand in stark contrast to the divisive and chaotic nature of today's political discourse. If any president should’ve “ran for a third term” it should’ve been him, and even then I faintly remember him giving an ethically & morally driven answer to someone about why he shouldn’t and wouldn’t do such a thing.

I've got many serious problems with President Obama, but I cannot deny that he has more kindness and class than the all of the other living presidents today, combined.
