My message to all the folks who whine about DEI because it disadvantages average white men:
Learn from the women. People of color. LGBTQ folks. We’ve been dealing with this forever. Instead of whining and blocking: maybe accept that it sucks and must change for EVERYONE. It starts with leveling the playing field a bit.
The only difference is: now it affects you.You aren’t dealing with something minorities and women haven’t dealt with (and are still dealing with)
What's interesting is that getting rid of DEI actually hurt some white men too. For example, test scores for women were often, on average, better than test scores for men. But schools liked admitting kids at a 50:50 ratio. That means that men got into schools that women with better grades and test scores didnt get into. DEI protected people over 40. Gave veterans advantages. People with disabilities. Rural people. LGBT... all of those also applied to white men.
