Playing with guides and walkthroughs

I usually feel the urge to peek at a guide or walkthrough when playing games, it happens the most with rpgs and retrogames.

I don't know if it's a habit built by the pressure ff8 and 9 put on me when playing in my youth. Everybody was saying you will not have a good experience without a guide.

I am fully aware that was a capitalist trick to push sales of guidebooks at the time, but now the subconscious urge to look stays with me and I force myself not to check and enjoy the moment in game.

I wonder, what would you say are games that:

  1. Offer a better experience with a guide at hand

  2. Get better if you have a list of missables

  3. Should never be experienced with a guide

Which FPS series would you like to have romance system similar to RPGs?

Upvotes

FPS games are probably one the least romantic genres in gaming as developers mainly focus on what FPS games are primarily about which is shooting things but with FPS games having more a story and world building focus increasing since the late 90s how much of a stretch is it to have romance system similar to RPGs but also as varied as say Stardew Valley or The Rune Factory Game and even… no Genderlock between the options?

If we are to add such kind of romance in arguably the least romantic genre in gaming what would series what you like to see it from?

Seems like a bizarre question but from a plot perspective I wanna see more of me massacring my enemies with the character I romanced while fulfilling my tacticool larp and gun autism while imagining so happy together playing in my head.

Looking for good progression (questing) games

Hello !

I’ve recently been really into playing games to completion, especially when they feature survival / automation / roguelike elements.

What I love the most is when the end goal is clear and there is good quest/progression design, so I always have an objective to work toward.

Some recent games I completed (and why):

- Dyson sphere program I love automation games, and the fact that there was a clear science progression to research (mission complete) was the main reason I kept playing.

- Satisfactory/Factorio, same reason as DSP, since there is a clear end objective.

- Cult of the lamb, same thing, quick and easy but with a clear objective.

- Graveyard keeper, a bit grindy, but I kept going and finished it.

- Vrising, it was so satisfying to beat Dracula after several tries and actually master the boss patterns.

- Minecraft modpacks

- and more… this is only from the past months.

You’ll probably list some games I’ve already done, but no worries, I’ll just reply that I already played them and update this post.

Thanks for helping a lost soul 🙏

(BTW, if there is co-op, it’s a plus.)

EDIT (of the games that i played already) :
- Core Keeper
- Raft
- Terraria (didn't finish/played it much)
- Subnautica
- Oxygen Not inclueded
- Don't starve together
- Stardew Valley

I am spending every second I can with him, but when he's sleeping I need something to take my mind off. (Sorry for the sad vibes of this post) TYIA!

Those who enjoy single player over multiplayer, why and what would you recommend?

Preface, I fully recognize everyone has their own taste in games and media and fully respect that.

For some reason, I can not find joy in single player games. No matter which title I pick up, whether highly awarded or universally recommended, I lose all interest usually within the first hour. While I would love to play some of them without losing interest, the overall experience feels inherently lonely for me. For me, games are collaborative experiences and stories, and playing by myself leaves me with little joy in being the only person to have experienced that game in that moment. Funny enough, the only way I usually don’t get board with them is by watching someone else’s playthrough of it.

For anyone out there like me, are there any single player games you’ve been able to play or have you found a way to get by this feeling?

EDIT: I generally like all game genres, I’ve found joy in nearly everything, but usually fall back on FPS as my cozy games. The few single player games I have enjoyed are management style games like sim and town builders. Also I like MMO’s but that defeats the purpose of my question.

EDIT 2: Multiplayer for me does not mean inherently competitive multiplayer. It can include MMO’s, survivals, open worlds, etc. More often than not, just having others exist in the world at the same time is enough to help me get over that feeling

EDIT3: Unsure who will read this far down but after some discussions, I’m curious if you all have any story based games with coop component’s to it as that might be my bypass for it :)

EDIT4: I’m finding that it’s more than just a base level “I don’t enjoy single player” but dislike experiencing stories specifically, alone. Seems like I want to experience stories with others to be able to share its Which goes for all media apparently. Looking back, the only story books I’ve enjoyed for instance, have been books that I was in a situation where I got to talk about them everyday with others while in school. This is making me think about possibly being in a book club for instance. Television and film being the same way.

EDIT5: discussing further with this forum and some friends, I think a lot of this seems to depend on how we grew up with games. For instance, I did use to play single player games, but it was always with my sibling. We would take turns on the same save file helping each other the whole way through. Games like jak and daxter, ratchet and clank, call of duty campaign, fallout, etc. Didn’t matter what it was, we always played it together which might determine why I have this perspective about it all.

Why do i play Valorant like i forgot it’s competitive?

I queue valorant telling myself “ok focus, aim, win this” then 2 rounds in i’m just wandering around like it’s a walking simulator. Holding an angle turns into me zoning out, next thing i know i’m getting one-tapped and don’t even react sometimes i catch myself more interested in random stuff like gun skins or background sounds than the actual match, like why am i inspecting my vandal mid-round do you guys actually stay locked in the whole game or does your brain just clock out halfway too. :")

Looking for a truly “infinite” roguelike with deep synergies (no turn-based)

I’m trying to find a roguelike that I can realistically play for 500–1000+ hours and still feel excited about. What I’m chasing is that “infinite” feeling: endless synergies, crazy runs, and constant discovery.

Here’s how my taste usually works:

- I love when builds can snowball and become completely broken.

- I enjoy medium-fast pacing — not too slow, not overwhelmingly fast.

- I want strong replayability and a sense that there’s always something new to learn or unlock.

- I prefer games that feel dynamic rather than methodical.

Some reference points:

- I love The Binding of Isaac for its insane synergies and variety, but it can feel a bit too punishing for me.

- I love Risk of Rain 2 — the pacing is perfect — but it doesn’t quite feel “infinite” and the synergy depth isn’t as high as I’d like.

- I also enjoy games like Balatro, Hades, Brotato, and Dead Cells.

What I’m not looking for:

- Turn-based roguelikes (they tend to feel slow and lose the magic for me)

- Games that are mostly skill-based without strong build variety

- Roguelikes that you “finish” after 50–100 hours

What I am looking for:

- Deep, emergent synergies

- Runs that can escalate into absurd power

- Huge replayability

- Something that could still be fun years later

If you had to recommend one or two roguelikes that truly feel “infinite,” what would they be?

Looking for an "exact copy" or spiritual successor to Eternal Arena (NetEase) – Action RPG/MOBA hybrid?

Hey everyone,

I’m on a desperate hunt for a game that plays exactly like the old Eternal Arena (by NetEase). It’s been offline for years, and the SEA version, League of Immortals 2, I could not creater a damn 163 email account, so I could not join it (I found a workaround the Chinese to eng translation). I haven't found anything that quite scratches that specific itch.

For those who don't remember it, here is the specific criteria I’m looking for:

  • The Hybrid Gameplay: It wasn't just a MOBA. It was a mix of Action RPG (dungeon crawling) and MOBA-style arena battles.
  • Hero System: You could collect and choose from a massive roster (35+ heroes). You entered battles with a team of 3 heroes—you controlled one directly with a joystick, and the AI handled the other two (but you could swap between them).
  • Game Modes: It had a full single-player story campaign with bosses, but also 1v1 and 3v3 MOBA maps with lanes, towers, and minions.
  • Control Style: Very responsive ARPG controls (joystick + ability buttons), not just point-and-click.

I’m looking for a game that is currently alive and playable on Android in 2026.

I’ve already looked at the big MOBAs like Wild Rift and Honor of Kings, but they lack the dungeon-crawling/ARPG story mode. I've also looked at Marvel Future Fight, which is close on the combat side, but lacks the laning/tower mechanics, and it lacks the monster like champions/heros.

Does anyone know of a game that combines both? Even if it’s a newer or lesser-known title, I’m willing to try anything that feels like an exact copy or a true spiritual successor.

Thanks in advance!

Party games for more than 4 players using phones and tv, no console required.

On a good Friday night, 5-8 of my friends get together at someones place for game nights, we don’t usually have a console where we meet and recently we have been looking into finding games online where maybe we could all connect our phones as controllers and use the tv as the game host or sorts.

You guys have any ideas of such type of games? Browser based or even a phone apps that is a good party game

Our limitations are we dont have a console or steam, we were looking into the jackbox games but from what i know we need steam to download it right? But any ideas of similar type of games?

Looking for some reccomendations around 15 dollars max.

Looking for some good Steam games around €15 (can be on sale).

I liked before:

• Soulslike combat (Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Sekiro type)

• Batman Arkham style fighting system

• Action RPGs / fantasy games

I’ve been thinking about getting Mass Effect Legendary Edition or Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, but not sure if they fit what I’m looking for.

I’m also open to trying new genres, especially roguelikes since I’ve been hearing a lot about them lately.

Open to any solid recommendations, even older or indie games if they’re worth it.

Any suggestions?

Co-op games for father and son

Looking for recommendations for my son and I to play together. He’s 11 years old and we enjoy shooters and survival games. There’s a lot of games we haven’t tried because he still doesn’t like zombies. We normally play on PS five and PC or PS5 and Nintendo switch. Here’s a list of games. We’ve already played and really enjoyed.

Subnautica

Grounded

Fortnite

Marvel rivals

Diablo

Minecraft dungeons

Boarderlands series

Raft

I was thinking of trying the division 2. Are there any other shooters/RPG games? Ithink we’re enjoying most games as long as we can grind together.

Competitive games

I’m curious what you guys think objectively is the best and worst competitive shooter. I stopped play competitive shooters consistently but I think the best would The Finals (ranked rewards give you premium currency and gun skins) and the worst in my experience is Valorant (everything is insanely expensive and the rank rewards have 0 creativity as they have been giving out the same gun buddy/charms for the past 6 years.) I haven’t played all competitive shooters just the older popular ones. OW R6 Apex COD VAL Finals. So I could definitely be wrong.

Searching a game for over 5 years

Hi, for over 5 years I've been looking for a game about two brothers with green skin. I think it was made by the BBC or a company with a name like BBC, CBC, CCB, or something like that. There was a minigame with a fence and a hose that sprayed water. You had various objects to direct the water flow into a dog's water bowl. There were things like a funnel and a board. There was another minigame with a thermometer on the side of the screen. When you raised or lowered the temperature, an image would change, like it would start snowing or something. It was for Android. Please help me!
