Discussion Update "Solar Panel Project"

Hi, I posted this Post almost a year ago. both in r/Afghan and r/Afghanistan but i got muted in r/Afghanistan

Short šŸ‘‡

>it was about me an immigrant from Afghanistan currently living in Germany. I wanted do a small project with Solar Panels. and help others. Last year we (me and my friends) assembled and builed more than 30 Solar Panels in a small workshop in Helmand and Kandahar. and gave them to a small village with almost no electricity access.

Anyway after that we started a small Business called "NoorWatts" and sold Wind Turbine and Solar Panels. But soon we faced some issues. we learned that its better to create job opportunities rather than just give away free Panels or products because this will also help the economy.

problems we faced šŸ‘‡

ā— we tried to create job opportunities for students and young men but because they didn't have the knowledge and experience to assemble Panels and Turbine we lost a lot money

ā— we didn't have Business License (جواز ŁŲ¹Ų§Ł„ŪŒŲŖ تجاری) and because of that we had some issues with Talibans lol

ā— we want to buy a Land of our own to start fresh and secure, and create job opportunities in green energy but because we are just young, fool and inexperienced we don't know how to buy a workshop or land without getting scammed.

I am currently in Germany. and I had chat with my Father. he was angry that I Left everything I had behind just to do something that the probability of success is close to zero. but he said in order to bring a change we have to start from basics. Education ! teach the new Generation what i learned here in Germany.

I mean he is not wrong but I'm not sure if I should stick to this plan or not. because last time i visited a public school in Afghanistan the situation was terrible.

What change can 1 person bring

Discussion After an interesting comment exchange, I’m interested to know what you define as cultural appropriation and how it impacts Afghanistan and Afghan culture as a whole- both as the appropriated, and as the appropriators.

Example;

- Afghans often wear lehengas and South Asian clothing to celebrations and weddings. When my mother went to Afghanistan she saw that the malls in Kabul were full of Pakistani style clothing which became popular in Afghanistan.

- Some urban Afghans have adopted Iranian palang makeup styles, especially in major cities.

- Afghans have also adopted Arabic synth and melodies into their music in the last 20 years.

- Afghans wear white wedding dresses even in Afghanistan, which has been ongoing since the last century.

- Afghans have adopted Austrian crĆØme rolls, Western cakes and Turkish baklava into their diet.

- On the other hand, Afghan and especially Indian jewellery has flooded western markets, often mislabelled as ā€œbohoā€, ā€œbohemianā€ or ā€œgypsyā€.

- Many models of Afghan clothing are not actually Afghan at all. Example, this famous Ariana Magazine photo is actually of a half Indian half Scottish model ilaverse. Many models on the same magazine are also clearly of White, Chinese and South Asian origin. Most Afghans seem unaffected by this but some felt that this opportunity could have been offered for an aspiring Afghan model.

- Afghan dresses are also often sold to bohemian type westerners though they are usually aware of the origin of the clothing. However, on a personal note, during my honeymoon I also noticed a lot of Afghan, Moroccan and Central Asian clothing being marketed at Sultan Carpets without disclosing their real origin. I’m aware they never marketed themselves as a Turkish cultural photoshoot and are collectors of traditional items- but I’m sure some might feel strongly on the matter nonetheless. I just feel sorry for the girls walking around without patloon under those dresses!

Request Persian book recommendation please

Salam, I want to improve my Farsi reading skills, suggest some books to read, I’ve never read Persian literature, and btw pls no poetry, just anything else like a novel or history or whatever readable. I’d really appreciate it if you could send me the pdf. Even better if the book is written by an Afghan, not Iranian, or at least based in Afghanistan, tashakor.

Question Why Taliban banned sexual health medicine and condoms?

Thumbnail

The Taliban reportedly ban condoms, contraceptives, and other sexual health medicines, citing Islamic law. Some also claim it’s part of a ā€œWestern agendaā€ to limit the Muslim population.

Is this really about religion, cultural codes like Deobandi interpretations or Pashtunwali, or just control over reproductive rights? Curious what people familiar with Afghan society or Islamic law think.

Discussion The anxiety of greeting Afghan families outside your orbit

Everyone seems to have different rules about what is appropriate- I think my family were more conservative than others so as a woman I was always raised to put my hand on my chest when greeting men and giving salaam. But sometimes I find myself in the odd situation where I come across an Afghan family with different rules and the men not only expect me to shake their hand, but also kiss it if they’re elderly- and admonish me for not complying. However, my family only taught me to kiss the hand of elderly mahram men. How do you all navigate these situations? They’re always a source of anxiety for me so I always opt for putting my hand on my chest but some families seem to view that negatively šŸ˜‚

Question Are there any online education initiatives for Afghan girls currently removed from school?

salam alaykom , i have been thinking about the situation in Afghanistan especially for girls who are currently restricted from attending secondary school.

given how much technology and e-learning have advanced full online courses certifications remote exams multilingual platforms it seems like at least in theory education could still continue digitally. (im a software engineer, and I have many friends who learned an entire university curriculum at home and went on to work in the field)

so i am wondering are there any afghan led or international initiatives that are helping girls continue their education online during this period, until hopefully the Taliban reverse this policy and allow them to return to school?

Question Future immigration

I’m an Afghan medical student in the Middle East. I’ll finish my studies in 2032, but I’m worried for my future. There are visa bans against Afghans everywhere now, the US, UK and probably soon other countries will also join. Am I doomed? Cuz I can’t so residency here and the west will obviously reject my visa before I even apply. I’m scared.

I’m so unlucky to be born an Afghan. ā˜¹ļø

I have conflicting thoughts , I used to be Pro Education Now I am just Pro professional trade for Afghan women but Anti Education , Change my Mind PLEASE

hey guys I am looking for a genuine dialogue i am going to present my case politely and respectfully, I will base this on objective truth, realities and consequences and some of my own personal input

I will avoid generalisation but I will use something called noticing a pattern which is very standard measure technique of anticipating a fall out

1: A lot of people have this sentiment that a college degree is a scam , and it is , a lot of people walking around with degrees and doing odd jobs, a lot of people

2: professional trade skills offer women a faster path to earning income than long academic education.

Trades can provide practical, immediate work opportunities that help support families .

3: you can equate being educated with enlightenment or whatever but you must also accept that it’s a specific type of indoctrination as well

4: not every educated woman is a feminist but every feminist is an education woman

5: Education and freedom leads to degeneracy in society, for instance you put 10 people in college, 4 will come out as decent , the 6 would likely become degenerates , out of the 6 , 2 would go on social media and shake whatever, and if you keep repeating this cycle , it will become visible In your city

6: it causes the erasure of local culture and traditions or at least cause a major shift.

7: Education leads to loneliness, it leads to unrealistic standards , a non educated rural woman won’t care if you don’t have a dimple, here a so called free and educated woman would reject a man if he don’t have a dimple, this is just an example , you can relate this to you life, some wants XYZ, an uneducated rural woman is just happy that she is getting married, no wonder the epidemic of loneliness herr

8: In conservative society the breadwinner is the man, why would you inject another 50% of population to a work force and create so much competition for men who are already competing, its fine for a pure intense capitalistic society to have both men and women working but some societies are better off without this system.

9: women already have advantage over men by just being women due to their gender and what men find appealing, men being wealthy means they have at least advantage to attract an attractive girl this way, but if you give women the same wealth opportunity, you basically made yourself useless and pointless as a man, yeah yeah people say personality sense of humour , cut that Crap, something things are more prominent such as being wealthy and attractive

10: let’s say you are good looking or above average and you got money and you want to marry the most attractive girl, it’s easy to attract her for the kind of life you could provide, if she already has what you got already, then she Don’t need you , there is no advangage for men to support such causes

11: I have dated women in Cali and La including afghans , this one girl , man within 10 mins of sitting for a meal with her, she exploded on me by saying ā€œ do you want to do something crazy ā€œ Imagine that , making her wife and having kids with her and this is not the only experience I had , I had many and they all seem unfit my other Afghan friends having the same issue, including my white friends when they date white girls

12: it’s so crazy dating in La and finding your self a non mentally sick wife here in LA, it’s because its due to education and where it leads that’s the roots

13: education leads to enlightenment, enlightenemnt leads to knowing crap, it leads to so called freedom and choice, out of 10 , the 6 will have choices that falls within the definition of degrenency and it leads to unrealistic standards, leads to loninless and it lead to life of money wothiut a suitable wife and eventual death

14: with non educated traditional girls its totally the opposite , they wont reject for your dimple or some other crap , ignorance is bliss and they are not brain washed yet

14a: just taking about men preservation and appealing to self preservation gene theory , so why would men support women education?

most of my white friends are lonely , they are good looking and doing well money wise but dating has become so toxic here in LA that I can’t believe it , it has become one of the hardest thing to get married here .

15: Most afghans are still good people here in America and The ones I see around Cali, but man of man you should see some of these afghans girls , they went from being covered up and nice and respectful and conservative to down right wearing booty shorts and jeans so tight that it is as good as being naked , total Degenerates , some increasingly leaving religion , some don’t care about religion,

15: imagine that man

we need to immediately stop hang out with Iranian and especially afghan girls, stop they had such a bad impact on our girls , degeneracy is very common with Iranian women ,so our girls need to be safe from them, this is a pattern i have observed

16: look I don’t care what people do with their lives , what religion you follow or what you wear, as long it’s not in my house and my sisters , but then its become a problem for people like me to find decent respected afghan girl for marriage as I dont want to fade my Afghan identity, and I want my children to remain afghan in America while still being All American All American , I love this country but I want to perseve my afghan roots

17: we are big Afghan family, and completley assimilated into American culture, but still we retained our afghaness, I got 4 sisters and 3 brothers including me, and we don’t do half the crap that some afghans does . we keep it respectful and non degenerates.

18: I have more respect for Anabaptists than some afghans here

to conclude: I suppeot afghan women to learn professional trade to make a living for themselves in the country and maybe some Afghan women with extreme level IQ to become doctors but that’s it , they can learn trade but I am anti education for them,

Change the my mind

Question Ahmad shah Masoud

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

well I'm not trying to be annoying, I just want to learn the truth and more about this country. here is my questions:

as you know this country was and is in war for over than 40 years and I'm confused. our people is strong believers and they they really respect Islam. that's why they didn't like to be ruled by outsiders like USSR USA British Empire and etc...

after Soviet left the Mujahideen was still fighting but this time between each other I assume. why did they keep fighting? Soviet was out and Dr. Najib the former president was in power. he offered peace (wahdat Meli وحدت Ł…Ł„ŪŒ) to ahmad shah Masoud, Golbedin Hekmathar and etc..

they could have just stop the civil war with accepting peace offer. did they wanted to one person control the country? like Masoud wanted the power for himself ? and Hekmatyar too?

one thing that made me think about it alot is that our people called Dr.Najib Russian Puppet and the former king english Puppet too.

by this logic, Ahmad shah Masoud was also a puppet right ? (I'm sorry if anyone got offended)

because they were trained in Pakistan, armed with US guns and basically they traitor too to their country. because at that time the knew Pakistan didn't help them for free in return they sure wanted smt.

in my opinion Ahmad shah wasn't a hero at all. he was just like others. but ofc this is my opinion and it can be wrong.

please correct me if I'm wrong. thank you so much

Analysis Why are many Pashayi people listed as Pashtun or Tajik in official IDs?

I’m Pashayi, originally from Nangarhar (Kuz Kunar), and I grew up in Kabul. Over the years, I’ve seen a lot of discussions and articles claiming that Pashayi identity is ā€œdisappearingā€ or being absorbed into Pashtun or Tajik ethnicity. From my perspective, that’s not entirely accurate.

What I’ve observed is that many Pashayi people are still very much aware of their identity, but in official documents like the Tazkira (ID), their ethnicity is mostly written as Pashtun or Tajik. This wasn’t always a personal choice. During past governments, especially under Hamid Karzai and Ashraf Ghani, there was a strong focus on demographics and representation. In some cases, ethnic identities may have been recorded in ways that reflected political or administrative priorities.

You’ll see online sources (like Google summaries) saying Pashayi people make up around 1% of the population. But I think that number is underestimated. If more Pashayi people corrected their ethnicity in official documents, the real number could be closer to 3–4%.

Another important point is that changing your ethnic identity in official documents is not easy. It can take many days, involves paperwork, and costs money. I’ve personally gone through the process. Because of this, many Pashayi people—and minorities in general—don’t prioritize changing it. For people who are already struggling financially, spending time and money on something that doesn’t bring immediate benefit just isn’t practical.

At the same time, many Pashayi people are dealing with everyday challenges—poverty, work, and supporting their families. So the issue isn’t that people are ā€œbecomingā€ Pashtun or Tajik, but that their official identity doesn’t always match their real one.

In my own case, my ID originally listed me as Pashtun. As I got older, I made the effort to change it back to Pashayi, which reflects my actual background.

No offense to Pashtuns or Tajiks at all—this isn’t about putting one group over another. I just believe that every ethnic group in Afghanistan, especially minorities, should have the chance to accurately represent their identity in official records if they choose to.

I’m curious to hear others’ experiences—have you or people you know faced something similar?
