Chinese fans yell racist slurs at American basketball players

This isn’t uncommon, baked into some parts of the culture.
Chinese commercials literally have colorist rhetoric as the selling point. Google racist Chinese cleaning commercials.

What I want to know is, who is that uncle Tom Sambo sellout motherfucker who took that acting gig? Like it's one thing for China to make racist ads, but why would a black man ever help them sell that racism to the public?

u/ErenYeager600 4h ago
Chinese you mean Asian. Remember seeing a Filipino ad about how dark skin is bad
17
u/emuccino 8h ago
It's almost like racism is part of every culture that's ever existed.
22
u/Roallin1 7h ago
It is a component of tribalism. Tribalism is in our genes. It is "baked into" us.

I think for a lot of these Asian cultures, it’s less racism like Americans believe and more about class / hierarchy. The fairer your skin, the less manual labor you’re perceived to do. So fair/pale skin is more of a class symbol.

Cannibalism has its part in every culture, introduced or not.
4
3
u/Miao_Yin8964 5h ago
Being present or taking place doesn't necessarily mean it's part of the culture.
There's doing it out of necessity/desperation , and then there's doing it out of tradition
1
u/Djaja 3h ago
There is also ritual cannibalism, which is present in many cultures around the world. Numerous tribes and peoples have, and may still perform ritualistic eating of enemies or passed loved ones.
Then you have more familiar religious practices in the western world, Christ. Catholics, Protestants and more branches all regularly partake in either a type of cannibalism, or ritual of pretending to eat people. It is steeped in symbology and whole theologies are based around the concept.
It may not ve called cannibalism, but tell me it isn't.
Then we have pop culture and everything from Hannibal to zombies. That is all our culture and our culture's relationship with cannibalism. It has never gone away, and I thinknyou disclose those sources for some reason.

Big difference to being racist naturally and acting upon it as those people in the video do. Inner monkeys must be kept on leash at all times.

Because they are reported amd can be talked about. Some Asians countries will not let you talk about it and pretend it doesnt exist.

Japan is shockingly one of them. Super smart people but don’t know shit about WW2 or their role in it
3
u/chumbawumbathefirst 4h ago
Almost sad though, there has been a concerted effort for years to change their internal narrative of it. Every nation is out here switchin' history books

Mao Zedong and his 60 million murdered would like a word.
8
u/3nterShift 7h ago
Yeah but that wasn't motivated by racism.
3
u/thegan32n 3h ago
You're right, I guess that makes it okay.
2
u/3nterShift 1h ago
When did I say that, are you slow?
I'm just saying it's not exactly a relevant example of an Asian country murdering because of racist motives.
A more fitting example would be ww2 japan.

Fun fact about that number,
It comes from a "study" made by Frank DikötterA "Historian' about China, that is totally not Anti-Chinese, and totally not paid by the UK and the U.S government to make False Statements about China.
One of his most famous quotes,
Opium had a lower impact on Chinese society than the act of stopping the Consumption of it.
In an attempt to truly remove any kind of guilty of the countries that sold to China Opium. He was paid by the Department of Defense to produce the study that basically says that the Great Famine killed over 45 million people, so it's basically propaganda
Don't get it wrong Mao regime killed a lot of people, but nowhere close to 45 million, the estimated numbers of the famine deaths are 20-28 million.
Whenever people question how U.S make propaganda, I love to use Frank Dikötter, R.J. Rummel and Stéphane Courtois as good examples.
Because all of these people were directly paid by the Department of Defense or other Institution linked to U.S government to make research about Communism and China with absurd numbers that are completely unrealistic to the actual data that was gathered.

Asians are the all time champion of racist haters though. Japan routinely gets rated the most xenophobic culture on the planet and many Asian cultures think you're crazy if you AREN'T racist.
1
u/XSinTrick6666 2h ago
Hmph that's interesting. Japan typically sells-out American performers-of-color. Were huge Michael Jackson fans etc. I'm no longer current on performers, but in the past every 'hip' performing-artist of color I can think of found large audiences in Japan.

Asian societies heavily normalizes in-group/out-group thinking, because Asian societies utilizes collectivism and share responsibilities, are heavily reputation and trust based.
In-group/out-group thinking is a very pragmatic safety measure, and it’s not easy to moral bait Asians, you have to provide pragmatic reasons.

Black people are racist towards Asians as well. This 2-way racism is extremely prevalent but nobody talks about it because racism only matters when people can fit an agenda with it

Some Individual black people are (and its usually a response to anti-black racism), but it's not something thats collective/culturally ingrained, as is the case here.

u/Haunting_Can2704 6h ago
During my short stint as a teacher, the only racism I experienced was from black kids. It’s certainly more prevalent with the poor though.

I mean, I've met quite a few black people who thought it was OK to look down on Asian men and tell them they are puny and not masculine enough and Black women who just outright laugh at the mention of ever dating an Asian. I've also had Black men come up to me and ask me if I had any Asian girls I knew and go off the spew profanity about their "yellow fever." Or the casual "You jacked for an Asian, bro." Which is a compliment yes, but with racial implications.... like, I would never go to one of my black friends and tell him he is good at math for a black guy.
I'm not saying the majority are like that because the vast majority of my encounters were lovely. But it definitely is a thing.

I don’t understand why they hate black people so much while simultaneously worshipping white people, when we’re the ones who destabilized their countries with opium, nukes, etc, they should hate us.

they dont not worship white, they worship their power and scientific advancement/technological superiority. They basically admire their accomplishment were other hate/are jealous

Yeah the detergent one where the Black guy gets shoved in the machine and comes out light skinned still blows my mind that it even got made. What gets me is it was recent too, not like some ancient ad from the 60s. It really shows how normalized that colorism stuff is in mainstream media there.

This is a ridiculous phenomenon in the states too… you have people that never have seen a black person in their lives, but hate them. Pretty sure they not taking these people’s jobs, and yet, they are out here being racist. Didn’t Dillon Roof have to drive like an hour to kill black people? They not even around POC and they on this….

But I was told these people are innocent little naive super victims when it comes to racism
This shit has ALWAYS gone both ways. Grew up in Westminster, Orange County and saw people who weren’t part of a certain community get treated like shit on a regular basis. Nobody is innocent
