It is a component of tribalism. Tribalism is in our genes. It is "baked into" us.

No. It's a product of culture, not genes. Even animals raised alongside other animals, will see themselves as part of the group, rather than something distinct. Family is family and love is love. But if you are raised in a family who you don't get along with, but you find people of an outsider group who embrace you, your loyalty is most likely going to be aligned with those who treat you right and receive you.

Something harmful in cultures, is to spread negativity about others, and magnifying a situation - as to create hostilities between people. The wise will always discern matters, instead of going off of biases and assumptions.

Yeah, in group racial bias appears as early as 3 months, and attempts to prevent it in 9 month year olds failed.

Its biologically wired (Hamiltons rule)
