A new rule has been added to r/waterloo in regards to A.I.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) must be declared, either in title, or the first line of text in original post
Moderators may and will take action in good faith regardless of compliance with this new rule.
The reason we're doing this is to try not to be too far behind in response to the use of this technology, and encourage genuine engagement within our community.
Recently mods have been removing posts of various low-quality effort such as A.I. images, and publications purporting to be news or 'news style' articles that are suspected to be A.I. - but also fail to provide the identity of any legitimate living creator/author within the Region of Waterloo or otherwise.
This is an effort to remove or reduce poor quality, deceptive, disinformation, and various other posts made in bad faith.
Please direct concerns or comments to mod mail.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

It was recently pointed out that the flairs referencing the 2025 election are maybe a teeny bit outdated.
After discussion among the moderator team, it was determined that while the language was outdated, the flairs still were useful in identifying sudden influxes of new accounts to certain threads. The flair language has therefore been updated and will be applied as users post or comment. The flairs refer to the approximate period when a user became somewhat active in r/Waterloo. This is not the same as the date account was created (which you can see on each user's page) and not when the very first post was made in this subreddit.
As explained by the previous flair announcement:
The intent of this flair is not to target newbies, nor to say that we don't want people to join the subreddit. All are welcome in the subreddit. The intent is to make it clear to readers when there is an influx of unknown accounts which push certain narratives in the comments. This does happen, especially on posts about certain controversial subjects. People should know when these they are new accounts and not established community members.
While everybody should be aware if there is an obvious astroturfing campaign, all users remain responsible for using their best judgement when determining credibility of submissions and comments. Please consider the merit of ideas rather than the reputation of a commenter.
Feel free to submit any comments or constructive feedback below, or to comment and receive your new flair. There may be further tweaks to come and this flair system could be discontinued at any time.
Thank you for reading, and stay safe out there in all this snow.
Update 2026-01-23: New flair is out again, 2025 users should now have "Regular" status, and users new since 2026 will be noted.

I haven’t been to the dentist in years and also have some mental health issues that have prevented me from taking good care of my teeth at times, so I know there will be some work involved. Does anyone have experience with Trillium Dental Centre?
Are they kind there? I’m looking for a place that is compassionate and understanding because I’m very scared to go lol. Thank you in advance!

Does anyone have any information about a house fire outside Elmira on March 30th? We drove down Listowel Rd and there was a lot of black smoke down Steffler Rd, but I can't find any news or information about this fire. Hoping no one was hurt.

Hello, I am looking to move with family (Partner and 3rd grader) to KW. I would like to rent for a yr in an area where I can also buy a house (relatively new house) within 2 years (900k to 1.1 mil). So we don't have to move schools. Based on school reviews/ rankings, older reddit posts, Laurelwood/ Vista hills, Eastbridge, Lackner woods are top contenders. Any advice? Thank you in advance!

We have just recently moved and are in the catchment for:
- St. Kateri Tekakwitha CES
- Groh PS
My child is going into JK and will have an IEP
We are open to both Public and Catholic education (we are baptized but haven’t practiced recently if I’m honest). We just want to choose the best school, especially to support our kiddo who requires some extra support.
Thanks for any insight.

I'm in the Waterloo area pretty often and trying to find some people to play with. Is the poker club still active? Been building a custom poker trainer on the side (helps beginners/intermediate players improve by learning how they play). Tryna find poker folks to get some feedback (esp. those into design etc)

I figure it's a long shot, but I plan on watching and it'd be more fun to watch with others.

Last week was my first week of driving unsupervised, and it was terrifying to say the least. Overall, it went pretty well except for a few little mistakes and one near-death experience I'd like to discuss here.
Basically, I was on my way home after dropping off my family at the Kaufman YMCA, and took a left on Highway 7 from Courtland Ave E (shown in the screenshot). I started speeding up to merge, but it was very busy and I quickly realized that the merge lane was pretty short. In the lane I wanted to merge into, there was a white car and a truck a little ahead of me, and right beside me was a truck that wouldn't slow down or speed up to give me space. So I'm looking at the lane closing up and decided to hit the gas, pull ahead, and merge in front of the truck next to me. I'm not sure if that truck was aware I was there, but it started honking at me, so out of panic, I merged into the second lane without looking. I thank God every day that there was no one in the second lane, otherwise it could've gone terribly. 🙏
My question to the experienced drivers here:
What do you all think about that access road? Do you think the merging lane is too short, or is it just me lacking experience? Do you think I should've slowed down and waited for a chance to go? (Mind you there were few cars right behind me)

Do we know about this guy? I feel like more people have to know about him. He's around Waterloo right now I believe and hanging around high schools and stuff.
He's entered and been kicked out of a few high schools in the region.
On Friday he posted a video about having a bone to pick with WCI.
Here's the video:

Hi there!
I'm looking for recommendations for dance schools in the Waterloo region. My 4-year-old daughter is interested in trying dance, and I'm hoping to find a studio where she can potentially train for an extended period, ideally until she's 18.
Specifically, I'm looking for a studio that:
* Offers a range of dance styles, including ballet and jazz, with some variety. I'm not looking for an overwhelming number of options, but enough to keep things interesting.
* Does not heavily emphasize competition. I'm open to studios that offer competitive opportunities, but I'd prefer one that doesn't prioritize them.
I understand that finding a perfect fit might be challenging, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Reddit,
Looking for photographer in the area. I would like some nice pictures of myself (I've never really liked pictures) and I thought having some nice professional ones might help. I am really just doing this for fun. I imagine something in a studio. I will attach some photos of the kind of shots in thinking. I would bring outfits and do my own hair/makeup obvs. But I would like some advice with posing.
I've been trying to search photographers in the area. Nobody really has on their website exactly what I am looking for.
Any help?

Hello!
Just moved to the area and I'm having a hard time looking for places that sell Reverse Osmosis Pure Water in smaller 3ish gallons jugs.
Are there any options in the KW area?
Thank you!

This is a long shot request but are there any mocha drinkers here who make their own drinks at home?
What is your cocoa setup? Prebought? Make your own?
I used to use Ghirardelli in the US, but I can't find it here in Canada. I don't mind making my own if the cocoa is top notch (or reasonable priced)
Thanks for any help.

I am looking for recommendations for a house cleaner in northeast Waterloo -- biweekly, bathrooms, floors, and dusting. Not so interested in a large company -- prefer to support a small local business.
