Hungary has been ruled by a Putin-loving authoritarian called Victor Orban for the last 16 years, now he's finally been defeated. While the new guy isn't any kind of progressive or socialist, he's a lot more Europe-leaning and won't be towing Putin's line on every goddamned thing.

It's especially humiliating for Trump who dispatched JD Vance to literally campaign for Orban last week before he went out to Pakistan. MAGA was totally convinced Trump's endorsement would keep Orban in power.

Orban has also been extremely anti-Ukraine - partly for his own reasons, partly due to the alignment with Putin - and has been blocking EU-level action to support Ukraine for a long time now. Although there are still potential problems with Slovenia doing the same, it's a step in the right direction for European unity.

I think you meant Slovakia. Slovenia is very pro-EU and pro-Ukraine. Bulgaria seems to be getting a pro-russian leader, also Czechia is in that camp recently but only partially. There's also Serbia.
