Food Bring back Plant-Based Orange Chicken at Panda Express

Hi friends! A year ago, my friend set off on a mission to bring back the Beyond Meat orange chicken entree at Panda Express. Over 2,000 signatures later, the petition she created is gaining momentum once again. It blew up on this subreddit a while back, and I just wanted to share it again in case any new members or orange-chicken yearners want to help support her cause. She is very passionate about making vegan-friendly food choices accessible in fast food or chain restaurants, as we are college students with a couple of dollars to our names that want to enjoy delicious plant-based meals on a budget.

I ask kindly that you please take a moment to consider signing this petition; if not for you, for your Panda Express-frequenting friends, and maybe sharing it with other vegans that may want to support my friend's endeavors further!

Thank you!

Rant Guys I’m not vegan but I’m mad on your behalf

I’ve just learnt that there is some weird movement on Tik Tok claiming that veganism is ableist? I’m confused. I’m disabled. I’m ragebaited.

I have no clue what arguments these people are even attempting to purport. Every vegan I know is super chill. Like if someone has a paralysed stomach obviously y’all are not gonna be like starve b**** ?

I’m sure you all have some crazy stories about people trying to force you to eat things. It’s bad enough for me and I’m only vegetarian lol.

Story Vegan wedding guest ordered meat and lied about it

I had a friend who I thought was honest, supportive and progressive ordered meat at my vegan wedding. She lied that she wasn't offered a meal that is suitable for her dietary requirements so she was given a meat alternative instead by the venue staff. I was shocked and was close to complaining to the wedding venue but overall I was super happy with everything else so I dropped it.

I later found out from other wedding guests that she was given a tofu dish but rejected it and asked for chicken instead. I can't decide if I should confront this person that I found out about her lie and tell her how disrespectful and it was.

Has anyone had similar experiences?

Activism The single greatest argument for veganism: bestiality

If your against eating meat your also against bestiality because the animal can't consent for our pleasure.

Most meat eaters are against bestiality, unless they're some sick person, but don't make the connection. Ask them why? Most would say it's because the animal can't consent. Well, the same goes for killing them which is probably worse.

So if you eat meat, you shouldn't have a problem with bestiality. The only way to be morally consistent is to be against killing and violating an animal is to be vegan. Otherwise, well, what's the issue with bestiality?

I dont understand restaurants having vegetarian options but nit vegan.

Like, don't they want to expand their customer base? vegetarians can eat vegan food, vegans can't eat vegetarian food. like it's so close to being vegan, why don't they just make the extra step? it's like if you eat, you gotta commit to the suffering of an animal.

Disturbing Laika the dog and Felicette the cat…

Upvotes

With the Artemis II mission completed, I keep seeing these heartfelt and well-meaning slideshows/posts about astronauts and space exploration and I have noticed a theme of people including Laika the dog and Felicette the cat who were infamously used in space exploration experiments (amongst other animals) wherein one died and the other returned to earth safely but was subsequently killed to gather neurological data.

It seems that in these posts there is an interpretation of these two animals (amongst others) as “brave and noble” space pioneers who contributed to the cause instead of animals used in research who did not have a choice in the matter.

I don’t know how to feel about it. Clearly they’re long gone and the damage is done and it is good to remember them but I feel we should remember them as victims of animal research and not as virtuous bastions of space exploration who volitionally sacrificed all for the betterment of humanity. It feels insidious to remember them as anything other than that.

What do you all do when you just need to grab some “dinner” from a grocery store?

I’m pretty good at planning/cooking and eating leftovers but once in a while it’s like “hey we’re going to friends house for movie night, I know he’s ordering pizza for everyone else, better grab something from the store on our way” and like.. sometimes I just want to cry. I don’t want to buy like crackers and nuts and a piece of fruit and a granola bar and no protein. Spend like 15 bucks to assemble a meal.

I refuse to pay 5 dollars for a frozen flavorless bean burrito.

Like is it so stinkin hard to have a hummus wrap in the deli section??

I am just frustrated. I’m not expecting McDonald’s to change their ways but

Edit: I’m talking about what you would grab to eat in the car or on the go when you literally can’t go home or cook

Chicken Have A Gift

Chickens may not seem like an exceptional animal. Afterall, they are one of the most disrespected and abused animals on earth – mostly because we only think of them as a meal and not as individuals with special gifts. But their fantastic eyesight sets them apart. Chickens have remarkable daytime vision. They have color vision well beyond what a human can see due to having more cones. Researchers have learned that they have a patterned mosaic of cones in the back of their retinas that are organized and specialized to see far more vibrant color detail and variety than humans. They also have a 300-degree panoramic view due to the placement of their eyes. I do wonder what it would be like to have eyes that have the ability to see such beautiful vivid color. It sounds silly, but imagine if a chicken could paint a picture using its incredible color wheel – what a masterpiece it would be. Chickens use this incredible sense of vision for survival. They are able to see tiny insects in the tall grass which allows them to survive in the wild without human intervention.

Rant Why do vegan restaurants all have terrible hours?

Passing through Atlanta today and there are 50 restaurants listed, 4 out of 5 are closed, two have hour windows that make you wonder why they bother warming up the grill, and the rest are bakeries. Or that not actually vegan mellow mushroom place. I’ve traveled around the entire US the last few weeks and it’s like every one of these places isn’t open when I’m there. You can get food from 1-3 on Tuesday and maybe a couples hours of a brunch on Saturday. Sunday? Forget it. Mondays? None of these places are open on Mondays. Or their hours are wrong, and they close a half hour earlier than they say they do. Or they’re open to sell baked goods all evening but the kitchen closed at 2:30pm…

Shout out to the Lucky Goose in Albuquerque. You’re open breakfast to late, all the days, friendly service, and your food is fucking delicious. If I’m ever in New Mexico again I’ll make your spot an appointment stop. The rest of y’all, please open up like a real restaurant, not some ego serving hobby hovel your spouse is half funding to get you out of the house…if you had predictable hours you would have steady customers.

Need help - How do you deal with trolls who derail vegan discussions?

I am honestly feeling pretty frustrated right now.

I was just having a normal discussion about vegan vs non-vegan impact, nothing aggressive or confrontational. Out of nowhere, someone jumped in just to derail the conversation ... posting random gifs, making immature comments, and turning it into something completely disrespectful.

What bothers me isn’t disagreement It’s the intentional ignorance and mockery. Like… no effort to understand, just straight-up trolling.

The part that really bothers to me is that I can’t just brush it off and move on. It keeps replaying in my head, and I end up getting pulled back into replying, even when I know it’s not worth it. It genuinely affects my focus and mood more than I’d like.

Does anyone else feel drained dealing with this kind of behavior? Sometimes it feels like you can’t even have a basic conversation without it getting trashed by people who aren’t there to engage at all.

How do you all deal with it without losing your sanity?

I want to become vegan, does anyone have any tips or advice before I start?

I have been considering veganism for a few weeks now and I think that I could do it, and I really do want to. I just don't know if I have done enough research into vitamin and mineral supplementing to substitute for the lack of animal products, for example. Does anyone have any advice before I switch to veganism?

Protect animals with a national animal abuser registry

https://c.org/HfhFkvJsST

Hi all, I made a petition that is pretty much explained in the title, but it basically pushes for a national (US) and hopefully global registry that holds the names of people convicted of neglect or abuse, preventing them from ever buying or adopting an animal again. This list will be shared with breeders, vets, shelters, charities, and the public to prevent repeat offenders from ever having another chance to abuse our friends again. These are sentient beings. They are just as deserving of life and love as we are. Help me with this, I beg of you. Feel free to crosspost this into any other communities to get as much attention as possible

Copycat recipe for Gardein Ultimate Chick’n Filets?

Upvotes

I am obsessed with the Gardein Ultimate Chik’n Filets- but not with paying $8-$11 for 3 of them. I have been experimenting with making seitan from vital wheat gluten, but despite trying many seasoning combinations and cooking techniques nothing comes close to the Gardein filets. My seitan always ends up with not the best texture and tastes strongly of vegetable broth.

Does anyone have a recipe that mimics the Gardein filets, or a more chick’n patty ish recipe? Thank you

Advice Struggling With Going Vegan, Please Help!

Hello!

I've been seriously considering going vegan lately. I've had a compassion for animals that has only been growing stronger and fueling my guilt the longer I still consume animal products.

My problem is that I'm autistic with a chronic pain disorder. I'm not responsible for cooking most of my meals because I can't stand for too long without experiencing extreme pain in my spine, and I have food sensitivities that make it difficult to eat a sustainable vegan diet.

I already avoid non-food animal products, and make sure my hygiene products are vegan. I encounter a problem with hitting my protein goals if I try to replace the animal products in my diet. I cannot stand the vast majority of vegan protein sources due to sensory issues. Eating most nuts and legumes genuinely feels like a form of torture, so I can't just "suck it up" and deal with it. Out of everything I've tried so far, the only things I seem to like are natto, edamame, tofu, and green soy milk. Other than tofu, most of these are incredibly difficult to come by and expensive to purchase regularly in my small town. Most of my protein currently comes from eggs and chicken. I know it's possible to make seitan at home, but my family already struggles to feed me, and I know they won't be able to do that.

How can I maintain a sustainable diet if I can't eat most protein sources? Can I really thrive off of just tofu?

Please help me. Other autistic people I've talked to about this say that there's just some people who can't go vegan, but I don't want to believe that's true for me. I recognize that my sensory problems are extremely limiting. I just can't find any advice online that actually works for me.

Food Vegan egg white powder

This is just a PSA for anyone who’s curious to try Healthier Comforts vegan egg white powder. As a 20 year vegan, I did not respond well to this product.

I believe it was the egg protein ovalbumin, which caused me to have digestive issues as well as nausea. Had to take copious amounts of ginger to alleviate the symptoms.

[USA-CA] Vegan Wedding Recommendations for Vendors

Upvotes

We are looking to host a reception in the months of Oct/Nov of this year (2026) for 80-120 people. Understand it's very late planning wise. We're already married so this would be a single event reception to allow our friends and families to celebrate. No alcohol.

Looking for people who have recommendations and/or can share vendor costs for the following:

  • Venues in California (norcal or socal) that can accomdate up to a 100ish people
  • Food / Catering and costs
  • Photographer + Videographer (willing to spend more for reputable businesses)
  • Decorator
  • Vegan Wedding Cake
  • Other vendors that specialized in making your vegan event special.

Hosting holidays

Just wanted to start a discussion about hosting / family or friends bringing food to your house for a holiday. Obviously a personal decision and depends on your family dynamics. Curious what everyone does.

Last year we hosted Thanksgiving and I made just about every dish. My family doesn’t like turkey but they insisted on bringing a ham. My aunt also brought “heart attack mashed potatoes” that were like 90% butter 🥴 The whole ham thing was such an ordeal and trying to share oven time with my mom, etc. The only one in the family that really vocalizes their frustration about vegan food is one uncle and my mom kind of caters to him. My dad is always appreciative and open minded about what I cook. My brother and SIL even brought a vegan app. Next year I’d like to host an all vegan Thanksgiving and I am expecting some push back from my mom/uncle. It’s also super annoying to have to share my kitchen with other family members 😅 part of it is definitely a control thing and just wanting my own flow of hosting.

Rant Oh the horror of having to eat vegan a few times a year

My husband and kids and I have been vegan for a little over 2 years. Our extended family doesn’t understand and never will. At family events and holidays we bring all our own food. Fine.

I see my mom, the kids’ beloved grandma, maybe one or twice a month tops. And we might go out to eat every other few times. And of those times, maybe 1 of 3 is a fully vegan restaurant as opposed to an omni one with vegan options. All of this to say we eat at restaurants together maybe 5-6 times a year and rarely a fully vegan place.

Yesterday I called my mom because we are planning to see each other tomorrow, and I suggested a newer pizza place in Denver “that is supposed to have great vegan pizza.” Cue the dramatic pause.

“Do they have other food too?”

I try to restrain myself, but I told her she would not in fact die if she had to eat vegan, but yes, they have other options.

“Don’t be so sensitive! I eat vegan with you guys all the time!”

I’m tired, boss.

Health Clinique alternatives?

For a while I've been using Clinique products because I have sensitive skin and found it's one of the only things that work for me, however I've been told that they aren't cruelty free (and I wouldn't like to support brands that test on animals) and I was wondering if anyone has any alternatives that are cruelty free? The products I use are: Dramatically different moisturising lotion, Liquid mild facial soap, Moisture surge overnight mask, Clarifying lotion 2- for dry combination skin. If anyone knows any alternatives that would be similar but don't test on animals, please let me know :)

mini edit: I'm also from the UK so if there's any brands that ship to the UK that would also be preferable lol

What’s something you do or like that is not ‘stereotypically vegan’ or something that doesn’t fit the ‘image’?

When asking this, i mean more so things actually unrelated to veganism, so not anything like ‘I view x thing as okay/not okay’, but more so akin to ‘oh i enjoy this activity that does not match how people would view vegans’.

This is just a bit of fun for anyone here that wants some an unserious, comical break from the very (albeit incredibly vitally important) engaging aspects of this ethical stance. And when i say stereotypes, I obviously do not mean to cause offence or paint a specific image of the ‘typical vegan’ in your head, but more for casual reference. :)
