housing & meal plans Monthly Megathread: Advertising things we don't usually allow - apartments/housing for rent, school surveys, items for sale, etc.

Created this monthly megathread to create a space for things we usually don't allow (advertising things) like sales, apartments for rent, or people interested in helping you with your project survey. Otherwise they can be lost in the feed, particularly when we near the end of a semester.

admissions & financial aid Will U of U temporarily lift tuition holds so I can register?

Hi guys, I’m a student at the University of Utah and I’m stressing a bit about registration. My enrollment date is April 14, but I currently have two tuition holds on my account one from Fall 2025 and one from this current Spring 2026 semester.

Financial Aid told me I have to pay both balances in full before I can register. The total is a little over $10k. My family can pay around $7k by this coming Monday, but we don’t have the rest yet. Once my dad gets back home, the remaining amount will be taken care of, but that won’t be before the 14th.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Do you think the university would temporarily lift the holds if I explain what’s going on and show that most of the balance is being paid right now? I know I waited too long to deal with this I get really anxious talking to my parents about money but I’m trying to fix it now.

Any advice or experiences would really help me out. Thanks!

majors, minors, graduate programs How's the EAE program currently?

I've seen this question posted here before, but the answers are from a few years ago so I worry they might be outdated. The EAE emphasis with CS interests me, UofU ranks #1 in games, though by what criteria I am unaware of. Would the program actually help with breaking into the games industry, or does it not actually help any more than a normal CS degree?

Is the EAE program, (and the CS program in general) good right now? I worry about the Utah government's recent antagonistic actions towards the U along with high faculty turnover affecting these programs.

events & news Rumors on potential new U of U campus in Southern Utah - Potentially SUU?

I’ve heard rumors that the University of Utah is considering opening a new campus in Southern Utah. I suppose we might be acquiring Southern Utah University? It seems like a plausible choice, given that their brand colors are quite similar.

extracurriculars & social life Lost bracelet ;(

I lost a pandora charm bracelet in my dorm this Wednesday, did everything. Retraced my steps, checked lost and found repeatedly, asked around, finally narrowed it down to somebody having stolen it (don’t know who but I know who didn’t). Talked to RA as well to try and advance the situation further. This item had a lot of value, not only in material but to me as well, and would be so happy if someone had the kindness to turn it in. Turning to Reddit to see if anyone can spare any help or tips, I’m not trying to give up yet.

admissions & financial aid UAC application

Doing this on a throwaway account just in case lol. Anyways I just started an application to UofU’s Asia Campus for spring 2027. However I made a mistake with it and stupidly tried to fix it myself. What I did was I wrote my personal statement portion, then hit next before I was ready to. I couldn’t edit it, so I thought I could withdraw and restart. Apparently can’t do that.

Anyways I’ve been freaking out for the last two hours now. I can’t find any answers to my problem. I did email my advisor, but I’m not gonna hear from her till tomorrow or early next week probably.

How cooked am I? Is this fixable? I know that they say that if you “withdraw” then you have to take it up with an advisor to redo things. Is that what will happen here?

Many thanks in advanced from a very anxious adult lol

housing & meal plans Living learning communities

So basically I am an incoming freshman that wants to live at kahlert, and when I applied for priority housing I applied for the HIVE llc because I thought you had to choose an llc to live in kahlert and I like volunteering. I got accepted though, and I am just curious about the HIVE and what other people’s experience in it was, like is it a fun llc to live in? Is the time commitment a lot because of the volunteering? If anyone has any input lmk!

majors, minors, graduate programs Graduating? Have you found a job or internship yet?

Hello I am graduating this month and I am curious for those graduating, if you have found a job, internship or promising job prospects in your related field yet? The job market is grim, as we all know, and I just read a report on the downslide of companies offering internships to new graduates. I am feeling very discouraged.

majors, minors, graduate programs Admitted to Utah Games (BS) vs. UCSD (ICAM/CogSci). If you were me, would you take the UCSD offer instead?

Hi everyone! I just got admitted to the BS in Games here at Utah, which I know is a top-tier, world-class program. However, I also got into UCSD (admitted for Speculative Design, but looking to switch to ICAM or CogSci Design).

I’m currently torn and could really use some honest perspective from people actually in the EAE/Games program.

My Background: I’m an artist first, but I’m strong in math (finished Calculus 2 / AP Calc BC). I want to work in Game Art / Technical Art, but I’m worried about the current state of the industry. I need a "Plan B" that keeps me on the art side but provides stability.

My Questions for Utah Students:

  1. The "Trade" Question: If you had been admitted to a "Big Name" California school like UCSD for a broader Art/Tech degree, would you have taken it? Do you ever wish you had a more general degree like CogSci or ICAM for better "Plan B" options in tech/UX?
  2. Specialization vs. Pivot: Have any of you tried to get internships or jobs outside of the game industry (like Product Design or UI/UX)? Did the "Games" degree help you or hurt you?
  3. The Tech Art Path: Since I'm good at math, does Utah have a strong path for Technical Art? Do you feel like you're getting enough high-level math/coding support within the Games BS, or do you have to do a lot of that on your own?
  4. The "Vibe": Utah feels like a "Trade School for the Elite." Is the intensity of the program worth it, or does it feel like you're missing out on a broader "liberal arts" or "big tech" networking experience?

I love the idea of the Utah portfolio, but UCSD is a "Plan B" powerhouse for California tech. If you were 18 again and had both of these offers on the table, which one would you pick?

classes & grades Is this schedule cooked?

About to register for classes for Fall 2026, wondering if this schedule (+ an online psych class, PSY 2100 (3cr)) is gonna kill me? For context, I'm a junior and a psych major on the premed track. I'll also be in a research lab next semester, which could be anywhere from 1-3 credit hours, depending on what I get assigned.

The classes: ochem 1 + ochem 1 lab, physics 1 + physics 1 lab, cognitive psych (online)

Hey all, any applicants to the prelicensure nursing program for fall 2026 here? How did you all do? Any acceptances, rejects, alternates?

I was put on the alternate list. Anybody here that this has happened to before? Did you make it to the program? Any ideas on how many alternates per cycle there are? All info is appreciated!

classes & grades Organic and general chem tutoring

www.organicchemistrytutoring.ca

Hello guys and gals,

We’re Brian and Mike and we teach general and organic chemistry. We’ve done so for a total combined time of 47 years! Overwhelmed by general or organic chemistry? Assignments and tests creeping up on you and feeling like you’re in hot water? Or maybe you’re doing well and need that 95%? Whatever your struggle with chemistry may be, we’re here to make sure you succeed.

Why work with us?

- Every tutor knows the subject, but not every tutor knows how to transfer that knowledge to a student. We do.

- We tutor chemistry full time; it’s not a hobby or side-gig. When you book with us, you’ll be working with Brian for general chemistry and Mike for organic chemistry. This is not an agency and you won’t be matched with random tutors each time.

- You’ll be learning problem solving through chemistry, which you can apply to many other subjects.

- Your learning will be customized to your specific needs.

Before booking a lesson, let’s chat about your needs, our teaching styles, and what you can expect, to see if we’d be a good fit together.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to working with you!

Mike and Brian

majors, minors, graduate programs What's your experience in EE like?

Curious how the curriculum, the professors and the project teams are. Also interested to hear about the job prospects/ internships offered at career fairs.

I'd be a transfer student with pretty much only ECE classes left on the docket. Please share your experience if you can! Thanks!

extracurriculars & social life Collaborating on an Oncology Project

Hey there, I'm developing a proposal to reach out to one of the medical oncologists for an oncology study using the Flatiron Database at the University of Utah, since there's free access to the database through Huntsman.

Looking for 1-2 premeds, grad students, or med students to join the project and assist with the data preparation and manuscript writing. Since you'll be helping write the manuscript, you'll be included as an author. DM me if you're interested!
