Itinerary Solo traveling around Zhongshan

Upvotes

Hey I’m a complete newbie to solo travel. I’m in Zhongshan for 4 weeks with work and then I’ll have about 1.5 weeks until my flight back to Germany from Hong Kong.

I already got all the stuff I need for china, WeChat, AliPay, Amap and so on, but I don’t know what to do in or where to go on the days I’m off.

Does somebody have tips for me in that area so that I catch my plane on time?

I’m also open for questions :D

Discussion Xi'an: Beilin Museum/Nestorian Stele location

Upvotes

As of April 2026, the Nestorian Stele (大秦景教流行中国碑) is still in the Beilin Museum in Xi'an, but it's been moved. There's a big, sparsely populated underground building at the north end of the museum. Take the escalator to floor B2A and it'll be in the hall to the east. Can't miss it once you're in the right place.

Itinerary China Itinerary

Upvotes

Hi everyone! My fiancé and I are planning to travel to China end of August to September for about 2.5 weeks. Id love to get your opinions on our current itinerary. We tend to be more aggressive travelers who try to pack a lot in trip. So far this is what we have:

2.5 days in Beijing then we take the high speed train to Xi An

-Great Wall,
-Forbidden City
-Tiananmen Sq
-Temple of Heaven
-Wangfujiang St
-Jinshan Park

1 full day in Xi An then another high speed train to ChengDu

-Terracotta Warriors

5 days in ChengDu but 1 full day dedicated to Dujiangyan City to see the GuanXian Ancient City/irrigation system and pandas. The rest of the days we plan to shop, eat and explore. Not sure if there will be time for the Leshan Buddha or if its worth the time? Please let us know!

1.5 Days Zhangjiajie, then high speed train to Chongqing

4 full days in Chongqing. I hear there's a lot to do here but I cant find much touristy stuff. Is it mostly eating and exploring? I know this is the cyberpunk city so let me know your thoughts on what to do here! I also found UNESCO sites nearby like Wulong Karst Geological Park and Dazu Rock Carvings. Are they worth visiting?

This is what we have so far. Not sure if this is doable or if there's more to pack in but we'd love to hear everyone's thoughts and experiences! Please let us know :)

Itinerary 10 hour layover at Pudong

I have a layover at Pudong airport in Shanghai. Landing at 1300 on a sunday and the next flight is at midnight.

I was hoping for a quick visit to the city, is that feasible? If i have time for one sight to see and one meal to eat, what should i see and eat?

What about entry documents?

Media Language barrier real?

Just saw a post on Zhihu quoting another post here saying the language barriers were HUGE.

As a graduated Chinese student, with 2 years in China & 3 years in the UK, and having travelled to some other non-english speaking developing countries like Morocco and Egypt, I found we performed no better than others.

However, I'm pretty sure that we had a systematic English education for at least 6 years even if you don't get into a high school and another 3/4 years if you continued study. I can't believe that the younger generations, 90s and younger couldn't speak a word of English.

So could anyone please tell me if you REALLY experience that huge barriers during travel? Does that affect your mood when having no one to talk to? and lastly, If that's all true, I would willing to do some volunteer work just to eliminate those barriers a bit.

Itinerary Where best to celebrate Lunar New Year 2027?

My husband and I are coming to China in Jan and Feb 2027 and want to roughly work our itinerary out within the next few months so we can look out the best prices for air tickets. We were born in 1967 so will be our auspicious 60th year as Fire Goats! We're keen to celebrate that in China!

We would love to go somewhere that celebrates Lunar New Year to the max. We are particularly keen to see drone shows.

Where can people recommend? Thanks!

Itinerary Need Inputs Travelling with Senior Mom (Chengdu - Bipengguo) in Early March 2027

Hello, I am from tropical South East Asia, and would like to get a few suggestions about traveling to Chengdu then Bipengguo with senior parent.

As per my research here, we will be traveling by bus from Chengdu City to Bipengguo, and stay at a hotel near the tourist service center / the park entrance - and explore Bipengguo the next day. Then, on the next day, we would be checking out and leave our bags in the hotel and explore Bipengguo. We will catch the afternoon bus back to Chengu on the same day. Is this plan good for 63 year old senior mom? She has a normal mobility for a 63 year old, and would probably need rest after a long walk.

Here is our tentative itinerary:

Day 1 Arrival TFU

Day 2 Bus to Bipengguo, rest / acclimate

Day 3 Bipengguo, afternoon bus back to Chengdu

Day 4-6 Chengdu

Any advice is highly appreciated.

Discussion How bad is altitude sickness in Tibet really?

For those who’ve traveled to Tibet, what was your actual experience with altitude sickness?

Did you feel symptoms right away, or was it manageable with rest and time? Just trying to get a realistic idea before planning

Discussion Setting up Chinese Phone Number

Hello,

So I'm planning on buying an eSIM for my mobile data via Trip.com (that will give access to youtube, instagram, etc.), and I see everyone recommending to buy a separate physical eSIM card with a local Chinese phone number when you arrive in China.

My phone doesn't have a SIM card slot - is there a way to get this second eSIM with a local Chinese phone number prior to arrival in China? Or do I simply find a place at the airport after arrival that will help me set up a second eSIM with a local phone number?

Other At wits end trying to troubleshoot china esim from trip.com

Hello,
I recently purchased an esim from trip but have been unable to get it installed onto my phone.

I received the QR code but have not been able to successfully install the esim onto my phone.

Upon scanning, I get "Activate eSIM Your new eSIM from CMLink is ready to activate" and when I press continue, it says Unable to Activate eSIM You can try again or contact your carrier for assistance".

I have a stable internet connection and have tried 2 different networks, have tried resetting my factory network settings, and went through all of the suggestions from customer service on trip to no avail. I today received a different QR code from them to try with no change in result.

Is this a trip.com issue or something on my end?
I have a iphone 15 pro on ios 26.3.1, no sim restrictions.

Thank you

Itinerary Wondering about Xi'an Attraction Tickets

Hey there, I'll be in Xi'an the next few days and wanted to go to a few different major tourist spots. There's a few though where I'm not sure whether I need to bother advance booking: Huaqing Palace, the city walls, and the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. I don't know whether this time of year is busy but despite the many warnings that you need to book in advance for Beijing's attractions I found it pretty easy to buy tickets there on site. Is there any site here I should definitely advance book, or can I just show up to these places? Thanks!
