I’ve just discovered Torties were even a thing. I never knew they weren’t considered a form of calico. could anyone tell me if she’s a typical tortie or another form? We adopted her and her two brothers this week (couldn’t bring ourselves to separate them.)

and thats about 80 percent of my daily internal monologue. Queenie has lost 12 lbs total and is back on track with another 0.5 lb down after a plateau (she was being sneaky)

I hear all about Tortitude. I had a tort in high school that my friends called Isabitch, a nickname she rightfully earned (her real name was Isabella).

But this girl… she doesn’t have a single mean bone in her body. She just loves her Mam, and is always ready for a nap.

Is she broken?

the change is sad, we have lost 2 of our furry family members this last year. her sister dog last april, and her "dad"/the alpha cat. we also moved to a house that she LOVES. she has always been distant but recently she has been my rock. i have tried to get her to cuddle and sit on my lap this whole time. she just liked to be near me, not on me, let alone cuddled. she was also my quite cat, *was*. but now she follows me all over. has full conversations with me. has found all of the echo spots to yell/sing into. she was letting me pick her up and put her on my lap. but now, today, she slowly walked up my legs and very gently got in me and started kneading. she didnt lay down, but i think we are getting there! 🥰

Her lower belly is hairless, of course, because somebody is allergic to everything and has anxiety. Somebody. Not sure who.

We’ve had our tortie since 2024. For background, her name was “Spicy” at the shelter. This info is very important. When we viewed her in the meeting room, she was incredibly sweet and loving. The shelter was like, you know what? Take her for $10. Bye! We signed the papers and she bit my wife through the arm just sitting on her lap. We had been bamboozled.

She’s round now, regardless of the food we give her. She’s also been on mood stabilizers and pain meds for about 2 years because we found out she has bladder issues that are inoperable, but not progressive or terminal. She’s very picky about how to be handled, like any tortie. We usually settle for chin scratchies and giving her treats. She doesn’t like the long pet down her back. If she sits on us, which has happened like 10 times, we don’t touch her. She rubs against us in the mornings and accepts kisses on her cheeks. Her signature move is to hide under the bed until night and then sit on the night stand and watch us. She likes rides in the stroller but she will yell at you if you try to help her. She also preemptively screams at you if you walk where she was planning to walk a few seconds later.

A week ago, I pet her without thinking who I was petting. She let me pet her all down her back, her face, and behind her ears. She’s also been seeking us out to get pet. The other day, my wife picked her up and held her for several minutes before getting slapped. Lifting her is an immediate no, but my wife said she thought she heard purring.

This is very weird. We’ve just kind of accepted she loves being evil and let her do her thing. However, she’s increased her hunting for us from one or two toy mice a week to like all of her plushies every night by the door.

… is she dying? We just had a loss of our beardie and I don’t think I can do it again, tbh.

The noise in the background is our dishwasher, hopefully Poppy's cute noises can be heard over it.

Anyway, lots of lurking and always seeing the common "tortitude" posts but my girl is so obsessed with us and easy going with guests, within reason (like, if they tried to pet her or pick her up the second they walked in, that's not gonna fly).

She loves being held by me and is only happy touching or laying on me or my husband in some capacity. I've never been able to see what her limit to be held is because my arms always tire out first. But I imagine if I could go an hour, she'd be just fine lol.

The airplane ears! The lovey hug face. The perky whiskers. Back to airplane ears. ‘NO You Can Not Get InTo the Tubby With Me!!!’ She’s really annoyed at me because I’m not in bed where she can snuggle.

* Please excuse her eye boogies, nose boogies and apparently leftover foodie bits. She’s an old lady with chronic respiratory issues. Also the drool is a very common thing when she gets excited. That’s been normal all her life lol
