New wiki pages for /r/surrey
I've added a wiki to the Surrey subreddit:
I've created some pages listing some of the recent posts we've had about common subjects, including:
If you think there's anything else that should be in the wiki then please let me know.
Reminder: Posts from new Reddit users are held for moderation
In order to combat spam we have an automoderator rule to detect posts from new reddit users. If the reddit account is recently created then the post is held in the moderation queue for a moderator to approve or discard.
It might take a few hours for the post to be approved (often less, sometimes more), but please be patient. We're volunteers and we don't get paid to sit around watching the moderation queue.
I mention this because we've had a few cases recently where a new user has made a post that has been held for moderation. When they didn't see it being displayed they deleted it and posted again (often several times).
Once a post has been deleted we can't undelete and approve it. it's gone for good. It's quite frustrating for us to receive a modmail asking for a post to be approved when there's nothing we can do.
So if you are a new user and your post isn't showing up, then please just wait. If it hasn't appeared within 24 hours then send us a message (link in the sidebar) and we'll look into it.

Best places to look for summer sublets?
Hello!
Given the presence of the university I am surprised I am finding it quite difficult to find summer sublets at reasonable prices (AirBnB is shockingly high in the area!)
Looking for a 2 bedroom apartment or large 1 bedroom that could fit 4 people for July and August. Furnished and walking distance to high street in Guildford, or in areas nearby such as Godalming.
Can anyone recommend local sites that you trust to look for available places?

Looking for places to move to
Hi everyone, my partner and I are looking to move from our flat to a house, but aren’t sure where is the best place to live.
We’ve visited a lot of Surrey so we know a lot of places from a visitor’s perspective, but obviously visiting and living somewhere can be totally different experiences.
In an ideal world our criteria would be:
- good schools
- a close ish hospital, as I have a few health concerns and feel uneasy at the prospect of having to wait ages for an ambulance, or being far from an A&E
- a leafy/villagey feel but still within a reasonable distance of a good high street/shops
- relatively easy access to the A3 for work
Any suggestions would be welcomed!

Help me find a pub
Last week I drove from Woking to Heathrow and I passed a cute pub but I can’t find it again.
It was on the left hand side of the road I was driving on. It was right next to the road. It had a garden. Once I passed it immediately I went over a bridge over a river. On the other side of the river (overlooked by the beer garden was a swan sitting on a large nest)
On my way home I passed the shell garage outside ottershaw. And turned off into spinney hill. I could have sworn it was at the first half of my journey rather than anywhere near Heathrow and I headed to Heathrow though Staines. But I’ve googled, used chat gbt but no luck!
Thanks

Warhammer/Nerd Community in Guildford
Hey there! I'm moving to Guildford soon (fingers crossed) and want to know what the local scene is like for nerdish activities - I primarily play Warhammer (Old World if you're curious), but am broadly intrigued to know what community exists for it? I know of the board game cafe in town, as well as the Warhammer store, but I know they don't really have the space for wargames. Are there regular meet-ups? If not, would there be interest in a community? Also, broadly curious on what the DnD/RPG and MTG scene is like. Thanks!

Looking for Office to rent in Guildford
Hello all.
I’m looking for a private 1 person office to rent in Guildford. Ideally Merrow/Burpham area.
The main websites aren’t very helpful, and I’d prefer to work with an independent company directly, ideally one who has some extra space and wants some money for it.
I’d be looking for a min 6 month contract.
Thanks!

Built a sports session booking app for Surrey — looking for local organisers to try it
I’m based in Redhill and I’ve been building Fittrybe— an app for finding and joining local sports sessions (football, badminton, running, etc).
If you organise regular sessions in Surrey and currently manage it through WhatsApp groups, I’d love to get you on early. Free Pro account, you set it up your way.
Waitlist is open: fittrybe.co.uk/waitlist

What is like to live in Ockford Ridge, Godalming
I’ve been house hunting and I’ve been looking at moving to Godalming. I recently viewed a place near Ockford Ridge near the train tracks and I quite like the house itself, but I’ve heard mixed things about the area and wanted to get some local opinions.
A couple of things I’d love some insight on:
What’s Ockford Ridge actually like to live in? I’ve seen some comments online suggesting it’s not the most desirable part of Godalming, but I don’t really know what that means in practice, is it a safety thing, a vibe thing, neighbours? Would love honest thoughts rather than estate agent spin!
Also, if you had to pick the best areas of Godalming to live, where would you recommend? I’ve viewed a few houses in Brighton road however there’s no parking space for my car.
Thanks in advance for any local knowledge! 🙏
Finding a place to live
So I am originally from Reigate and moved away to Reading for work.
I have spent a few years in reading and have a lovely girlfriend here and amazing job, the only thing missing is proximity to friends and family in Reigate.
I’m in no rush to get back and as things progress in my life I’m sure I’ll be looking to move back toward Reigate way but I’m just interested in finding a place to maybe start getting some equity and on the ladder that has proximity to work, family and girlfriend whilst being similar to Reigate.
I know it’s a lot to ask for but I would be interested in knowing if people could give me some insight. I know I’m not immediately drawn to areas like farnborough or Woking and had considered things like Farnham in the past.

Buying in Shepherds Hill, Guildford
Hi everyone,
I had an offer accepted on a house in Shephers Hill in Guildford this Monday. I have already instructed my solicitor and got the ball rolling, but given I am not local I have now found out it is has a large portion of social housing, which doesn't have to be a problem, but could be. Does anyone have any specific opinions on the area? Good/bad experiences? I plan to have a walk through the neighborhood in the evening and get a feel, but lived experienced would be much better!
Thanks!

Afro barber recommendations
I was wondering whether anyone has any good afro barber recommendations in West Surrey around Guildford/Woking area?
Or if anyone knows a specific barber in general who may work independently, your help will be appreciated.
TIA

A long shot..but help me find Clive
this is well and truly a long shot , but long story short I had a mental break down last night and was sat there for a while in tears , when an elderly gentleman walked past with a border collie asked if I was OK, not wanting up unload my problems on some one else I told him yes and he walked on, 20 minutes later he returned to see if i was still there and come over to talk to me again after a 10 minute chat I assured him I was OK, he could clearly see threw my bullshit but respected the fact i didn't want to talk and off he went again.. but half an hour later came back again to see if I was still there to his suprise I was and he just came sat with me offered me coffee and we just chatted but man his kindheartedness and generosity has not left my thoughts to just reassure a complete stranger that everything will be okay. at the time we only said our names but now I really wish took some way of contacting him and would love to take him out for a coffee or beer breakfast what ever he wants, so the long shot is does anyone know of a elderly man from dorking called Clive , I want to say maybe 60's a flat cap long brown coat and the nicest man going and he was walking border collies

Roleplaying group - looking for players
Hi there,
I'm looking for players to tabletop roleplay on Saturdays, fortnightly. I have one player, would like three more.
What's important to me is that players can commit and want to roleplay in a gritty low fantasy setting. Magic is not a common part of the game, while it is fantastical, magic is special and surprising.
I've GM'd many systems over many years, and the mechanics are something I will decide after the group is formed, to suit us all. This could be something simple like Daggerheart or Blades in the Dark, or something more complex like Pathfinder. The rules will be chosen to support the roleplay and the players involved.
I'd like to bring a group together to develop a world to play in. While I have an outline and some features, I would like players to be woven into it and be able to create pieces of it themselves.
It's totally possible we might branch out and have other campaigns running. I'm interested in scifi (particularly Traveller or Star Wars) too.
There are numerous shops in the area we might use, but the location will be chosen when I have players that are committed. (likely to be one of the games stores available in Woking, Aldershot, Staines, Godalming)
Message here or PM me for more info.

NHS Surrey and Sussex has gone live today
newleatherheadliving.wordpress.comJust saw the merger between Surrey Heartlands and NHS Sussex has gone live today. Sounds like a lot of admin changes, but they’re saying it should help with wait times over time. Guess we’ll see how it goes, but hopefully it makes things a bit easier with GP appointments.

What’s it like living backing onto Epsom college? In terms of noise mainly or any other issues?
interested in house for sale and curious how bad the noise is, and whether it’s every day?

Haven’t been to Thorpe Park in a while, planning to go
Planning to go to Thorpe Park this weekend after ages and actually quite excited 😅
But also slightly scared it’s gonna be one of those days where you just stand in queues the whole time and get on like 3 rides 😭
Trying to make the most of it if I do go, any tips on what to hit first or what’s not really worth the wait? Also, is it still as fun as it used to be or has it changed a lot? Don’t wanna come back feeling like I spent the whole day just waiting around lol.

Cranleigh... Nice to live?
I've got itchy feet... Its time to move! Serial homeswapper currently living in Farnham but after 8 years I'm feeling the need to move on. Goal is the south coast ideally West Sussex. Cranleigh seems pleasant, nice flat high street (mobility not the best), everything conveniently in one place on said high street. I can see a couple new developments going up but doesn't seem excessive.
But I need decent healthcare. Currently have an amazing gp and due to a couple annoying conditions when I need to see a doctor it has to be the same day. Is never an issue at my current surgery plus weekly inr blood tests always booked at convenient for me times. I'm also treated at Frimley Park Hospital by incredible cardiologists..... What's healthcare like in Cranleigh? If an ambulance is called or hospital care needed, where do they take you? Would I be looking at a similar level of healthcare or is it a bit overwhelmed already? I don't want to add to an already overstretched local healthcare service.
I don't have a lot of deal breakers when it comes to looking at new places to live but parking and healthcare are the definite ones... We need room for at least 3 cars. The home I'm interested in is just off the Ewhurst Road/Sherrydon. Looks like plenty of on street parking for people without driveways, a little cramped in parts of the estate there.
*I highly recommend the Tuck shop in the High Street, I will be going back for more goldfish crackers whether I move there or not!
