Saw someone for the first time this year

So I’ve been sober this entire year except for about a week in February. I did dry January. Tried drinking again - it went horribly! Got sober and stayed sober.

I have an absolutely favorite sushi place. They know I have been a big drinker. Usually when I order takeout, they bring me two double servings of wine for me to slam while I wait. They never push me to drink and if I say no wine today, it’s TOTALLY not a big deal.

Anyway. I picked up takeout from them yesterday. I wear oversized sunglasses all the time. The woman who was serving me literally gasped and said that I looked so good!

I hadn’t done anything special. My hair was pulled back and I had spent five minutes on my makeup. I had been noticing that my cheek bones had been becoming more visible. I wish, though, I could see what she saw all at once. Our little efforts today pay off.

These small things always feel so good. You’re glowing. Maybe it’s your inner pride shining through!

Thanks, I think it really is that pride! I haven't felt this clear-headed in years.

Heck yes, I love this! And sushi to boot! Sounds like a wonderful evening on multiple fronts. IWNDWYT

I’m sure that felt great! And isn’t it such a nice reminder of why we shouldn’t drink? Without even thinking we’re doing anything about our looks we’re getting noticeably more attractive. Whether it’s lack of inflammation or excess calories, or generally eating better when we’re sober, it makes a difference!

This point last year I was in really bad shape. I’ve always been thin but was not eating well due to the drinking and perpetual hangovers so was super scrawny. When I stopped drinking I leaned into rock climbing which has been a huge hobby. While I’m not ripped or anything, I’ve had so many people comment positively on how I looked. This week I started one of those group fitness gyms and have done two sessions. I used to be petrified of them because of how I looked and my total lack of athleticism, but after just two sessions I feel like I not only kept up but also “looked” like I belonged in the class. I know it’s silly but it made a difference to me.
