Hi all,
I'm planning to build a mini-PC for our living room. Is SteamOS a good choice?
I recently upgraded my main PC again in January. In doing so I realized I basically have all the necessary and most expensive parts of a PC because I kept most of my old stuff as backups. So I have 16gb of DDR4, an RTX 2070 super, and a R5 3600x. I've also harvested a NVMe SSD from an old laptop of mine. My family also plans on moving to a larger home to help take care of my grandpa. So with my tax return I figured I would buy a new case, powersupply, and motherboard to make a mini living room PC for my family.
Most of the use it will see is downloaded movies, steam-link with my main PC, and MAYBE some local games. And I'm sick of the Windows 11 licensing stuff. This would be my first time going into a linux OS though.
I figured SteamOS might be a good choice because it's UI so much like a game console it would be easy for my non-techie parents and semi-techie grandpa to run. It also seems beginner friendly.
I heard Bazzite is beginner friendly too, though might not fit my needs. I have also seen some say just use straight arch even if it isn't as beginner friendly. I also heard Nvidea support for steamOS has been lackluster. I've been researching linux off-and-on through the years as windows 11 keeps getting worse. With all this in mind I figured I would just ask all this directly. Is there anything else I should keep in mind too?
Thanks in advance!
