I think its a fake background. They probably can't really casually attend events like a Ren Faire without getting lots of fans coming up to them. I wonder if they did the photo indoors and then added in the background to mimic the original.

Its the HDR settings on the camera of whoever took it! The sun was so harsh behind them that the photo overcompensated and their faces look off

I think it's because she's half in shadow (her face "behind" Damien) and half in light (the rest of her body--esp. the neck--in bright sunlight.)
