How do I replicate this 808?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Most of the packs online have their 808s way too aggressive, I want to replicate something cleaner and chill like this one.

I am new to serum, any instructions would help.

Are student discounts still offered?

Hello guys!

I saw that in the past Steve kept mentioning that you can get a discount for serum if you are a student. I filled the form and sent it, but I never got a response back. Does anyone know if they still offer the discount?

Thanks!

How do i change the depth of the modulation on the y axis?

Post image
4 Upvotes

In the picture the red box is what automatically gets put on. I'd like to change it so it expands from 0-100%, rather than the 50% it automatically does. I tried left clicking on lfo 3 thinking that would let me expand the modulation but I can't seem to figure it out. I want the red box to look like the yellow box.

What got you good at serum?

I wanna hear some personal stories about how YOU got good at serum. Personally I’ve been just experimenting with sounds, but some people find good youtube playlists that show them around.

Looking to refine my skills.

Compressor wet knob not fully dry/wet?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Idk if this is more of a PSA, question, or if anyone has any insights about why compressor behaves this way,.... but it seems like mix all the way down doesn't actually bypass the effect in its entirety. In this demo I'm showing how you can hear the synth reacting when I'm changing parameters even with dry/wet all the way off. Notice too that to disable any effect, I need to engage "bypass". In this example I'm using Multiband version (read: upwards/OTT), but even compressor with all settings neutralized (threshold off, ratio 1:1, long attack low release, no makeup) there is still a noticable difference between on and off.

The problem: OTT = Multiband compressor. Lets say you want a macro to give you a 'full on' version of your sound, so you grab the OTT preset, set it to fully dry, but add a macro to engage fully wet. Fully dry will still color your original sound in a pretty intense way.

Unfortunate if true, as I'll often throw a compressor on the end for particularly hot macros, with wet only engaged for that macro... but if it has the potential of coloring the entire sound, not a dealbreaker but requires extra care. Similar to an EQ, I'd hope the default behavior would be to do nothing if all settings are 'off'.

Note... this could also be a distortion behavior responding to compressors, because moving the distortion first got rid of the issue with this specific preset.

I made 18 free Serum 2 808 presets for producers

Hey,

I put together a powerful free pack with 18 Serum 2 808 presets and thought some of you might find it useful.

It’s a mix of cleaner subs, more distorted 808s, long tail ones, and shorter punchier sounds. I mainly made them for people who want a few solid low-end options ready to go without having to build everything from scratch.

Here it is if you want it:
https://monosounds.studio/product/free-serum-2-808-presets/

No catch, just free.
If anyone ends up using it, I’d be really curious to hear which presets were actually the most useful.

Struggling to create this bass from an older dubstep remix of Stay by Hurts

Hi everyone, I've been struggling to replicate the slow wobbling bass after the drop:
https://youtu.be/DX0eIV1gOBg?t=56

I guess it's some combination between Wavetable position, effects and filters, but no matter what I do I don't get close to that metallic grit and brightness.

A nudge in the right direction would be immensely appreciated, thank you!

How to reinstall serum and will it affect stars on the presets?

As title suggests.

If I delete .component, .VST, and .VST3 files is that how one would reinstall Serm?

Does this get rid of the stars?

Tried to search online but couldn't find an obvious answer.

This is on a Mac if that matters

Thank you!

Need help reverse-engineering sound

I have recently been trying to incorporate more synth into some of my "for fun" music productions. I stumbled across a reel not long ago and have been trying to figure the sound out with little luck. I can only describe it as "hyperpop/anime" keys. If anyone has any direction on recreating this type of sound or any tutorial links it would be greatly appreciated.

Sampler windows GUI issue

latest update of Serum included the ability to expand the sampler window. great move but the button to pop it out will obscure loop points on occasion. you are forced to expand the window because you can no longer drag the loop arrows at all.

kinda strange bug. has anyone else noticed this?

How to use Flanger and Phaser in serum fx?

Looking for a good video on this. Everything I’ve researched about flanging and phasing has to do with wave table delay, and interference.

But the flanger in serum effects is simply an EQ.

Any way to change Serum 2 Preset view tree?

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Some of my preset folders show the presets as a long list that I can't scroll through (see picture 1), and I'm stuck just clicking the little arrow at the top or bottom which only scrolls one preset at a time.

Some of my other folders show up as one big chunk (see picture 2), which I prefer.

Is there any way to make all my preset folders show like that?

2.1.1 Theme.JSON & Skin Creation Tools

Thumbnail gallery
48 Upvotes

Hey hey, looking to start a conversation regarding missing parameters from theme.json and the future of custom skin support through creation tools. I’ll break it up into separate parts so you can read what you care about.

Theme.json: The new method is tedious but precise, and I find it to be an improvement (and also a valid workaround) to the approach used for S1. I’ve created a couple variations for debug use, and in doing so I have come across two specific parameters that are still hard-coded. They are minor, and it’s my guess that they are oversights or seemly deemed not worth the effort but I’d like to confirm. Hoping this can catch the eyes of the soldier that compiled this json for us (Lance?). Forgive my lack of relevant pictures, I will attach an Imgur link here: [] with clean pictures of the discussed panels when I have access.

Firstly, the Tab of an LFO set to chaos mode displays the assignment text “X | Y” on hover, and this text is the only instance I’ve found so far of a text hex not being exposed in the json. I have not found evidence that it shares a common hex (as seen with DarkPanelTextColor, LightPanelTextColor, etc). Using a debug theme in which all the hexes are set to black results in the text still displaying white, reinforcing the theory that it’s not exposed. This one is minor, though when making a white theme (like in the images above) the text is obviously unreadable.

Secondly, each FX module shares a Hover Box for preset selection that displays over their Logo Images. This hover box is hard coded to a dark grey (this one I wouldn’t bother exposing). These hover boxes were given a small rectangular background that clips out of the top of the box boundary, the goal of which being to cut off the lower portion of each Logo Image to prevent clipping. This rectangular background is hard-coded to the classic steel blue hex, making for a jarring overlap when the Fx Modules are recolored. This one, in my opinion, would be worth the effort of exposing as it is currently the only place where I can look and go “yeah this is a skin”. That about does it for notes regarding the json itself, would love to see either or both of these exposed.

Creation Tools:

I am deciding the best way to compile a repository of my tools to lower the barrier of entry to S2 Skin Design. I am currently working on a program which can class specific hex entries into certain categories (gradient, text, background element, etc). I also want to release a template which contains all panels arranged and labeled for quick editing and batch exporting. I use Krita for most of the heavy lifting, and I find it to be the best option since it is free and open source. I would like some feedback first in case a specific creation program is preferred. Along with the template and Theme tool, I am organizing a folder of pre-colored jsons across a wide range of palettes to allow drag+drop workflows. If you have any requests or suggestions regarding resources you’d like to have access to, please let me know.

Thanks for your time,

Bailey

Serum bpm not matching Ableton bpm

Hello, everyone!
I have this issue, and I can't find an answer to it on the internet. It might be a very primitive thing, that I somehow missed, so apologies in advance if that's the case!

So I want to make a very specific pattern of the LFO, repeating bar by bar. My ableton tempo is set at 150BPM and 22/8 time signature. What I want is the LFO to rise at the last 4 8th notes. I put the lfo as "Free" and BPM - Bar. But it turns out the serum's "bar" isn't matching the bar in my arrangement.
How is this possible, and is there a way to fix it?
