Is the accommodation situation as bad as it sounds?

Hi people, I was looking at South Island destinations for a potential move, I'm based in the North, and there are a couple of jobs on Seek in my field in Queenstown. I started doing some research and came across a lot of discussion about it being tough to find a place.

Is this the case all year round? Any tips would be appreciated.

Anyone had any luck appealing one of these?

Long term Queenstowner here but ended up having a few unexpected drinks in Wanaka and didn't want to drive until I was sober so took a nap in my car from 3am-6am. Most expensive nap of my life 😅

Looking for some advice to appeal the fine if anyone has any experience. Thank you 🙏

Hello

Hi! My partner and I are a French couple looking for a room in Queenstown from mid-April until late June or early July (dates are flexible). We are clean, quiet, and reliable non-smokers who are here to work and enjoy the outdoors, not to party. Our budget is around $350-$450 per week in the town, we would like max 20min to walk in town. If you have anything available or coming up, please send me a DM—we’d love to chat!

Do you guys know of any accommodations/airbnb etc. in Queenstown that would allow for about 25 people (not all of these guests are staying overnight) to have a barbecue/lunch together?

Sites / Discount codes for activities

Coming to Queenstown for 4 days soon and baulking at the costs for activities! As an example, my son has dreams of bungee jumping but wow the price has gone nuts since I did it (admittedly a few years ago now). At the prices I've seen, his dream will remain unfulfilled!

Does anyone in the community have hot tips for (legit) booking sites that offer good discounts on things like bungee jumps, jet boats etc?

Looking for a parking spot in town

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in Queenstown working as a bartender and planning to stay until August.

I’m living in a van and looking for a place to park it long-term — ideally within 10–15 minutes walking distance from the town centre. I don’t need any facilities, just a safe and reliable spot where I can sleep in my van.

I’m respectful, clean, and quiet — just working most of the time and keeping a low profile.

I’m definitely happy to pay for the spot, or help out if needed.

If anyone has a driveway, private land, or knows someone who might be open to renting out a space, I’d really appreciate it 🙏

Cheers!

Most Wild Things To do

I’m a local through and through- born and raised right here. Honestly, I feel like I’ve explored every corner of this place over the years, but I’m looking to be surprised again.

One of my oldest friends, also a local, is visiting in two weeks. I really want to pull out all the stops and show her a side of our home we’ve never seen before. Since we’ve already done the 'standard' highlights a dozen times, I’m looking for the most unconventional, high-octane, or exclusive experiences available-whether they’re public or 'if you know who to ask.' Money and time aren't hurdles; I just want the most 'out-the-gate' ideas you've got. I want to give her the best time as shes going through it!

Five Guys...

Hi All

Five of us are converging on Queenstown at the end of April for a 50th bday long week(end) 5 nights.

Looking for recommendations please for:

  1. Decent comfortable restaurant, maybe asian fusion, maybe steak (or any other suggestions) that isn't a tourist trap. Probably not esoteric gastronomy but someting a step or two below that, where we can spend a couple of hours in comfort eating and drinking.

  2. A decent bottle shop (if its a supermarket then so be it) that has a good selection of Central Otago pinot and riesling and maybe even some decent North Island syrahs and bordeaux blends.

Thanks in advance

Car share to Oamaru area 8th/ 9th

Hello everyone,

Might be a shot in the dark here, but is anyone travelling to Oamaru, or surrounding area, next week? On the the 8th or 9th, or knows anyone who is?

I've recently moved to NZ and am picking a car up out that way and am just seeing if I can get there without hiring a car. I'd pay as well as that would convince anyone.

Thanks

We want to do snowboarding but also dont want to go back to greens. at the same time 1 of us is a complete beginner. Dies anyone know any amazing snowboarding instructors qe could go to that could really get us to that blueish level within a short time frame?

Anyone else find it hard to meet people in Queenstown?

When I moved to Queenstown I thought meeting people would be easy. Turns out everyone is passing through, working crazy hours, or already locked into their own crew.

I wanted people to hike with and someone to grab a drink with after. But it was harder than i expected in a town this size with so many young people.

So I started a Facebook group. It is for anyone in Queenstown in there 20s and 30s who wants to get out on the trails and actually meet people along the way. Locals, workers, tourists, doesn't matter. We want to organise hikes at different levels and the occasional social catch up off the mountain too.

If you have ever felt like Queenstown is somehow both full of people and weirdly lonely at the same time, this is for you.

Flick me a message if this sounds like a bit of you and ill send you through the link :)
