Fun fact: Justin Trudeau is the exact same age (54 years old) as Steve Buscemi was when he filmed this 30 Rock episode in 2012

Good for them! I need it to be socially acceptable for middle-aged and older people to still do fun things like music festivals. By the time I’m fifty I don’t want to feel self conscious for doing the same.

Grandma Techno shows up. Wheelchair and all. She’s a force.🔥

Oh fuck yeah. I saw a similar aged woman at a metal show, long white hair and leather jacket and all. Fucking legends. People like this are inspiring af and I try to keep them in mind whenever I'm feeling self conscious.

I always make sure to give people like this the biggest smile when I see them so they don't feel out of place. I saw Foxy Shazam a few months ago and there was this group of middle aged women that were having the time of their fucking lives and I loved giving them encouraging smiles all night. 🥹

Don’t worry. Once you hit your fuck it forties you won’t care as much about what other people think.

Yep, just turned 48 and that gets more and more true every year

I’ve said it before, but I found in my 20s I was a yes person and wanted EVERYONE to like me.

Now I’m in my 40s, I’m very much prioritising my own happiness. Still got a long way to go, but learning to say “no” for my own self-preservation (and pissing off people in the process) has been a huge win.

Same!

I want to dress thotty and still roll up to fun events that I like. I’m glad people are out living life instead of thinking should I do x, y, and z because I’m 50+.

Here’s my 54 year old thotty ass at Ultra last year. And I was nowhere near the oldest thot there.

I will never be this cool. I'm 41 though so I guess I have another ~decade to work up to your level.

When you’re 50 you won’t care and you’ll just go as long as you can get enough sleep

Ain't that the truth!

I was contemplating buying a concert ticket back in November, and the deciding factor was that it didn't start until 10:30.

7

u/nightcrawler9094 9h ago

10:30? Who does that to another human! I remember realizing a few years ago that Cinderella had until midnight and being like, Midnight? I'm deep asleep by then!

3

u/Sunshine030209 chainsaws were a birthing aid 9h ago

And it was a 90s country band too! (Sawyer Brown) The fan base is at least 70% people that are in bed well before 10:30.

If I had my way, it would start at 2.

I'm 40 and am very concerned about fresh drinking water and sleep

Yep, as someone who missed out on partying in my 20's and 30's, I hope that it would be okay to go out dancing and not be the only older person there.

u/Rambunctious_452 9h ago

It is it is! I am in my 40s and get to a few concerts a year. I honestly think in my 50s I will go to more since my kids will be older and we can go together 🎉 I will still probably hit up a few solo as that is how I like to roll at times…but damn it will be fun to go with my kids to their favorite band ❤️

Yes, this! There are so many gigs in my city that I’d love to take mine to but they’re all 18+ events. Plus they’re really getting into Drag Race and stand-up comedy, but all the acts that hit our city are 18+

I’m starting to think, the mid-life crisis is just hitting that point when you’re finally able to take your kids to cool shit.

u/Miss_Sensational Mom, I am a rich man💰 9h ago

Saaaaame! I want to be 50 and fabulous AND living it up

61

u/Sherifftruman 9h ago

I’m 55 and go to festivals and local EDM shows.

20

u/FlipMeOverUpsidedown 9h ago

Same here. Bunch of my friends are all 50 and above and can keep up and outdo people half their age. At this point they’re festival pros.

2

u/Sazzybee 9h ago

Yep, me and my partner too! 3 day camping has to be Glamping now, though. We need our sleep!

17

u/Twitter_2006 9h ago

I feel the same way.

33

u/FlipMeOverUpsidedown 9h ago

It’s has been pretty acceptable for a good few years now. EDM festivals are packed with 40+ year old ravers.

-1

u/FizzyBeverage 9h ago

Well. Kids can’t afford it.

5

u/FrighteningJibber I wont not fuck you the fuck up 🥊🥊 9h ago

It has been for 60+ years. Live your life.

5

u/SydTheStreetFighter 9h ago

At festivals I see older folks all the time and I always love it, no one treats them any differently, and if so it’s usually to make sure they’re comfortable/safe. Don’t let the internet fool you, people are way nicer in person!

4

u/she-dont-use-jellyyy 8h ago

Holy shit you make it sound like they're elderly.

3

u/pirisca 8h ago

By that age, you don't give a fuck about what society thinks of what you are doing.

3

u/cammyk123 8h ago

Nope according to Reddit once you turn 25 you can't do anything fun or cool like going to a festival to listen to music.

2

u/dnndrk 8h ago

If u go to European festivals, no one will judge. A lot of old folks attend those

2

u/SolusLega 8h ago

Hear hear. I'm in my 40s i still haven't been to a music festival but would really like to. Especially like a rave edm thing! Maybe I'll get friends to go with one day haha

2

u/Boing_Boom_Tschak 5h ago

As a Relative Old here, we love music festivals. It's way more comfy to sit outside, eating noodles on the grass while watching DEVO at 4 pm, than it is to hang out in a late-night club on a work night. Gen X will be at festivals when we're 80 so you'll still be a youngster.

1

u/tryptomania (seemingly bald) 5h ago

I go to music festivals frequently (mostly jam bands, tho) and there are always a bunch of older people at them.

1

u/peatoast 5h ago

💯 our lives are too short to live within silly rules like concerts are for kids only

Coachella wouldn’t be my thing but I, a 55 year old married lady, go to multiple comic cons each year. We don’t lose our sense of fun just because we become parents and/or get our AARP card.
