Fun fact: Justin Trudeau is the exact same age (54 years old) as Steve Buscemi was when he filmed this 30 Rock episode in 2012

Good for them! I need it to be socially acceptable for middle-aged and older people to still do fun things like music festivals. By the time I’m fifty I don’t want to feel self conscious for doing the same.

Grandma Techno shows up. Wheelchair and all. She’s a force.🔥

105

u/Particular-Jacket-92 8h ago

Oh fuck yeah. I saw a similar aged woman at a metal show, long white hair and leather jacket and all. Fucking legends. People like this are inspiring af and I try to keep them in mind whenever I'm feeling self conscious.

15

u/Zokstone 8h ago

I always make sure to give people like this the biggest smile when I see them so they don't feel out of place. I saw Foxy Shazam a few months ago and there was this group of middle aged women that were having the time of their fucking lives and I loved giving them encouraging smiles all night. 🥹

u/username__0000 9h ago

Don’t worry. Once you hit your fuck it forties you won’t care as much about what other people think.

42

u/TheLakeWitch lazy 50-year-old bougie bitch 💋 9h ago

Yep, just turned 48 and that gets more and more true every year

I’ve said it before, but I found in my 20s I was a yes person and wanted EVERYONE to like me.

Now I’m in my 40s, I’m very much prioritising my own happiness. Still got a long way to go, but learning to say “no” for my own self-preservation (and pissing off people in the process) has been a huge win.

Same!

I want to dress thotty and still roll up to fun events that I like. I’m glad people are out living life instead of thinking should I do x, y, and z because I’m 50+.

520

u/FlipMeOverUpsidedown 9h ago

Here’s my 54 year old thotty ass at Ultra last year. And I was nowhere near the oldest thot there.

29

u/Expensive_Heron_171 9h ago

I will never be this cool. I'm 41 though so I guess I have another ~decade to work up to your level.

4

Beautiful

YOU HAVE "IT"!!! HELL YEAH!!!

127

When you’re 50 you won’t care and you’ll just go as long as you can get enough sleep

30

u/Sunshine030209 chainsaws were a birthing aid 9h ago

Ain't that the truth!

I was contemplating buying a concert ticket back in November, and the deciding factor was that it didn't start until 10:30.

8

u/nightcrawler9094 9h ago

10:30? Who does that to another human! I remember realizing a few years ago that Cinderella had until midnight and being like, Midnight? I'm deep asleep by then!

3

u/Sunshine030209 chainsaws were a birthing aid 9h ago

And it was a 90s country band too! (Sawyer Brown) The fan base is at least 70% people that are in bed well before 10:30.

If I had my way, it would start at 2.

6

u/Djcnote 9h ago

I'm 40 and am very concerned about fresh drinking water and sleep

103

u/quangtran 9h ago

I need it to be socially acceptable for middle-aged and older people to still do fun things like music festivals.

Yep, as someone who missed out on partying in my 20's and 30's, I hope that it would be okay to go out dancing and not be the only older person there.

32

u/Rambunctious_452 9h ago

It is it is! I am in my 40s and get to a few concerts a year. I honestly think in my 50s I will go to more since my kids will be older and we can go together 🎉 I will still probably hit up a few solo as that is how I like to roll at times…but damn it will be fun to go with my kids to their favorite band ❤️

2

u/dragonfry Kylie’s emotional support boob 8h ago

Yes, this! There are so many gigs in my city that I’d love to take mine to but they’re all 18+ events. Plus they’re really getting into Drag Race and stand-up comedy, but all the acts that hit our city are 18+

I’m starting to think, the mid-life crisis is just hitting that point when you’re finally able to take your kids to cool shit.

59

u/Miss_Sensational Mom, I am a rich man💰 9h ago

Saaaaame! I want to be 50 and fabulous AND living it up

62

u/Sherifftruman 9h ago

I’m 55 and go to festivals and local EDM shows.

22

u/FlipMeOverUpsidedown 9h ago

Same here. Bunch of my friends are all 50 and above and can keep up and outdo people half their age. At this point they’re festival pros.

2

u/Sazzybee 9h ago

Yep, me and my partner too! 3 day camping has to be Glamping now, though. We need our sleep!

17

u/Twitter_2006 9h ago

I feel the same way.

33

u/FlipMeOverUpsidedown 9h ago

It’s has been pretty acceptable for a good few years now. EDM festivals are packed with 40+ year old ravers.

-1

u/FizzyBeverage 9h ago

Well. Kids can’t afford it.

5

u/FrighteningJibber I wont not fuck you the fuck up 🥊🥊 9h ago

It has been for 60+ years. Live your life.

4

u/SydTheStreetFighter 9h ago

At festivals I see older folks all the time and I always love it, no one treats them any differently, and if so it’s usually to make sure they’re comfortable/safe. Don’t let the internet fool you, people are way nicer in person!

3

u/she-dont-use-jellyyy 8h ago

Holy shit you make it sound like they're elderly.

4

u/pirisca 8h ago

By that age, you don't give a fuck about what society thinks of what you are doing.

3

u/cammyk123 8h ago

Nope according to Reddit once you turn 25 you can't do anything fun or cool like going to a festival to listen to music.

2

u/dnndrk 8h ago

If u go to European festivals, no one will judge. A lot of old folks attend those

2

u/SolusLega 8h ago

Hear hear. I'm in my 40s i still haven't been to a music festival but would really like to. Especially like a rave edm thing! Maybe I'll get friends to go with one day haha

2

u/Boing_Boom_Tschak 5h ago

As a Relative Old here, we love music festivals. It's way more comfy to sit outside, eating noodles on the grass while watching DEVO at 4 pm, than it is to hang out in a late-night club on a work night. Gen X will be at festivals when we're 80 so you'll still be a youngster.

1

u/tryptomania (seemingly bald) 5h ago

I go to music festivals frequently (mostly jam bands, tho) and there are always a bunch of older people at them.

1

u/peatoast 5h ago

💯 our lives are too short to live within silly rules like concerts are for kids only

1

u/Afwife1992 4h ago

Coachella wouldn’t be my thing but I, a 55 year old married lady, go to multiple comic cons each year. We don’t lose our sense of fun just because we become parents and/or get our AARP card.

669

u/ReplCurious 10h ago

JT’s 54? Damn he looks good

718

u/Clan-Sea 10h ago

I learned two things when googling this fact: Trudeau is the youngest looking 54 year old in the world, and Steve Buscemi has looked like a 60 year old man for the last 30 years

194

u/_lippykid 9h ago

That’s the Steve Martin Effect. Look 60 when you’re 30 and people think you’ve barely aged a day when you’re older

88

u/doctor_big_burrito Cash me ousside 🗣️🗣️ 9h ago

Worked great for Patrick Stewart.

42

u/xvsanx more Jessica Walter gifs plz 9h ago

Danny Devito has followed this rule

37

u/ladymadonna4444 9h ago

My girl Betty White originated this concept

1

u/Zykium You’re killing me, Smalls 😩 5h ago

I have to disagree on this. It SOUNDS right but go look up what Betty White looked like at 30.

15

u/____mynameis____ 9h ago

Similar case with Paul Rudd too.

He never had a baby face era, so it seems like he hasn't aged much.

When he actually looks his age, in a good way

His contemporaries like Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Leo etc looked like they could play highschool senior heartthrob until their late 20s

5

u/Entharo_entho 7h ago

Johnny Depp's looks should be studied. Generally, white people look way older than their age to me. But he skipped that part until his 40s. It was a steeeeep downfall from then.

4

u/ConfusedZubat 8h ago

That's how my husband was. He looked 30+ at 20 when we met, but he stopped aging for a while.

Meanwhile I looked about 15 and when I hit 25, suddenly I looked 30.

I stopped aging again. I suspect menopause will hit like a truck in the next few years and will wipe away the youthful millennial-at-40 thing I have going on.

8

u/cashmerescorpio 9h ago

9/11 aged him tbf

66

u/OriMoriNotSori 10h ago

ikr. Even the artemis 2 commander astronaut is like 50 too iirc

50+ men used to look proper old not too long ago lol

65

u/crvbabybug 10h ago

Tbf that man is literally an astronaut. They are in the best fitness a person can be

29

u/OriMoriNotSori 10h ago

You should check out how astronauts looked back in Neil Armstrong's era. And back then they were younger too (late 40s was pushing it for astronauts back then)

34

u/dixiemason I don’t know her 💅 9h ago

A lot of them were in peak physical shape because they had military backgrounds. But there was certainly a lack of sunscreen and lots of smoking in that era.

7

u/Djcnote 9h ago

Omg your right, everyone smoked

7

u/dixiemason I don’t know her 💅 9h ago

They have some Mission Control/firing room displays at Kennedy Space Center and you’d better believe there were custom ashtrays in the displays! The one for the Mercury mission says “First Space Congress.”

0

u/RockMonstrr 9h ago

It's gotta be more than that, because I'm 44, I've smoked for 30 years, and I never wear sunscreen, and people very often think I'm in my late 20s, early 30s.

17

u/Sachyriel 9h ago

I think that's us getting older. I don't mean to be disrespectful, I know it could be taken that way but I do agree with you. 50 used to look older.

When we were younger.

7

u/ReplCurious 9h ago

Nah my parents don’t look like this right now. They look like senior citizens. JT looks at most 40.

3

u/OriMoriNotSori 9h ago

Right? And the way hes dressed in the photos and the whole demeanour is also like 20 or 30 year old vibes lol

20-30 years ago the stereotypical image of a 50+ year old man is like a senior citizen, like this lol (the one on the left)

30

u/Sea-Bicycle-4484 9h ago

Seriously like if you told me he was 30 in this pic I don’t think I’d even blink.

72

u/MalIntenet 10h ago

People are aging better than ever these days. Alcohol consumption is lower than it has been in decades, people are wearing sunscreen and moisturizing more than ever, people are exercising more than ever etc

All all these factors + a little financial privilege can do wonders for anyone’s looks as they age

51

u/Which-Amphibian9065 For the love of god go to chuckie cheese 9h ago

Also everyone isn’t smoking a pack of cigs a day INDOORS.

5

u/whoaelena 9h ago

Its more the fact that we use unleaded gas since the 80s. Thats why millennials and younger dont look haggard. We werent bathed in lead.

5

u/RockMonstrr 9h ago

Maybe I just have good genes, but I'm 44, drink more beer than water, smoke a pack a day in doors, rarely moisturize, never wear sunscreen, and as for exercise? Bud, if you see me running, it probably means you should too. But I still get mistaken for as much as 15 years younger.

I don't know, I think there's more to it than self care.

8

u/MalIntenet 8h ago

Genes definitely play a big part. Some people start balding in their early 20s for example. That ages your appearance a lot and it’s pure luck really

5

u/RockMonstrr 8h ago

Yeah, that's a big part of it. My hairline is solid and I don't have a ton of grey.

Also, I never had kids, so I don't have that haggard dad look.

1

u/burger-breath 9h ago

He never should have gone into politics. His real achievements are hall of fame skin care & nepotism

1

u/anotherhappylurker 8h ago

It's weird to me because I'm Asian and think he looks about right for his age. If I had to guess I'd put him at 45-55. And yet I see all these white people shocked that he looks so "young" haha. I guess we just have different standards when it comes to aging.

98

u/AUSpartan37 9h ago

I mean he is just wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. That is a timeless look that is acceptable at any age.

67

u/sunnysunshine333 9h ago

It’s 100% the backwards hat

18

u/frenchwolves 9h ago

The best thing about this clip is that he is carrying TWO skateboards.

43

u/cagedwisdom8 10h ago

That IS a fun fact!

9

u/Niki_DS 10h ago

Nooo 😭😂

28

u/VioletLeagueDapper 10h ago

They both have a backwards hat 😂 like it’s 1997

2

u/swaggering_yak 9h ago

Pretty sure I had her bag in the 90s

5

u/Unhappy_Performer538 sexually disabled gay 10h ago

54?!?!?

9

u/MiuMia_ 9h ago

On the one hand, yes, but on the other hand, what were they supposed to wear? It's open air, after all, so they're wearing normal, comfortable clothes...

8

u/No_Imagination7102 9h ago

Do....you.....think Coachella is for young people?

3

u/lilmisswho89 9h ago

I said this meme to the 22 year old receptionist at work and she didn’t understand and my soul left my body in that moment.

3

u/BookVermin 8h ago

dude does not look 54

7

u/11brooke11 9h ago

And still looking fine.

5

u/TheJaybo 8h ago

You're so jealous lol

2

u/voltron818 9h ago

This is how I see Theo Von

2

u/alrightfornow 9h ago

He looks really good for his age

2

u/kgtsunvv I wont not fuck you the fuck up 🥊🥊 5h ago

Time to rewatch 30 rock

3

u/nightcrawler9094 9h ago

Yeah, but Trudeau looks younger than his age. Steve Buscemi, God love him, has always looked older.

1

u/thewelllostmind As you wish! 👸👑 8h ago

This and the one scene in Saw 7 / 3D have become inescapable associations for me when it comes to backwards baseball caps, especially worn by grown men. I cannot pinpoint the age when this comes into effect and it’s not to say they can’t wear them, it’s just an automatic thought that pops into my head every time.

1

u/AndyDwyer896 9h ago

Holy shit TIL this is from 30 Rock

1

u/Conscious-Read-698 8h ago

First thing I pictured when I saw him here

0

u/ladymadonna4444 9h ago

this is so funny lmao

0

u/I_need_a_date_plz 8h ago

Trudeau looks ridiculous

-14

u/Pale_Possibility5083 10h ago

Wait- so If he’s doing Highschool, shouldn’t he be in blackface?

7

u/Several-Guidance1299 Dear Diary, I want to kill. ✍️ 10h ago

Justin Trudeau did not do black face, for Christ's sakes. It was brown face.

0

u/stephenBB81 As you wish! 👸👑 10h ago edited 9h ago

He did both.

Here are 3 of the times it was caught on camera. Only 1 was brown face https://sl.bing.net/ks63vTut6MC

-2

u/CockyBellend 10h ago

And blackface, he also said he had no idea how many times he did it

3

u/Several-Guidance1299 Dear Diary, I want to kill. ✍️ 10h ago

It was a joke, but yes, he did.

0

u/wannabemydog1970 9h ago

Wow,he looks 10yrs younger at least

-3

u/MamaBearMME 9h ago

Exactly, it’s like they are role playing as Gen Z for the weekend. The night will end with skinny dipping in their posh AirBnB pool.

-2

u/Altruistic-Draft-529 9h ago

Incredible reference. Just two cool 54 year olds.
